sinzuihi davecheney, I see a 1.14 branch and series was created shortly after 1.13.3. Will the two fixes be merged into both 1.14 and trunk so that the release can be cut?00:23
zradminIm trying to deploy charms with juju 1.13.3 t oa maas environment, and while the first charm allocates resources from maas, the next charm i try to deploy doesn't even though there are nodes in the ready state00:25
zradminhas anyone seen this before?00:26
kurt_zradmin: you may have clock/timing issues with oauth00:31
zradminso time between the bottstrap noe and the maas region controller is off?00:32
kurt_zradmin: does the debug-log complain of oauth problems?00:32
zradminbootstrap :)00:32
kurt_yes, it could be00:33
kurt_do both nodes have direct access to the internet?00:33
zradminyes00:33
zradminthey should be set to pool.ntp.org00:33
kurt_what does debug log say?00:34
zradminits still scrolling, i had the bug in 1.12 where the all-machines.log grew exponentially00:35
kurt_right, don't use 1.1200:35
zradminyeah, i just found all the threads on that today it was driving me crazy00:36
kurt_I got off that as soon as I could.00:36
kurt_1.13.3 is what I'm working with00:36
zradminyeah i'm on that as well00:37
zradminjust a second, i deleted the log file and am reattempting to deploy the charm to get fresh data00:37
kurt_you don't need to delete the log.  I've never worried about that00:38
kurt_start up another terminal and do "watch debug-log" from your root node00:38
kurt_I run 3 terminals when I'm deploying00:39
kurt_1 for commands, 1 doing a "watch juju status" and 1 doing "watch juju debug-log"00:39
kurt_that works well for me00:39
zradmincool00:39
zradminthis is a sample of the garbage im getting in the log00:40
kurt_I sometimes have a 4th window to juju ssh  to whatever node I'm working iwth00:40

kurt_you are having connection issues00:41
zradminthe ceph service in the log deployed correctly and seems to be checing in to juju00:42
zradminbut that was deployed under 1.12 and then i upgraded the tools00:42
zradminshould i just destory it again and start clean from 1.13?00:43
kurt_I think you may need to destroy-env - but I can't answer for certain00:43
zradminok, I'll try that first00:43
kurt_also - from your node, make sure you can ping out to some internet hosts00:43
zradminwhy is 1.12 listed under juju/stable? I've had nothing but issues since testing with it00:44
zradminthe python client never gave me too many issues00:44
kurt_I'm not with canonical, can't help you with that00:45
kurt_sorry00:45
sarnoldzradmin: the juju team has chosen to do evens for stable, odd for unstable, and as I understand they just haven't done a 1.14 release yet..00:45
zradminah yeah, I meant to ask "do you know why"00:45
kurt_sarnold: isn't 1.14 for saucy?00:45
sarnold.. never mind the results of annoying bugs in the stable series :) but the intention was for 1.13 to be less stable than 1.12 because it was under more active development00:45
zradminah ok00:46
kurt_1.12 is dead though I think I heard00:46
sarnoldyeah probably best to think that :)00:46
sarnold1.13.3 is still most recent in saucy, I ohpe they can fix that up before too much longer00:46
kurt_its been working pretty well for me so far00:47
zradmincool, im hoping i can get my test openstack environment up and running soon00:47
zradminok now when trying to destroy the environment im getting a 409 conflict message00:48
kurt_did you juju resolve <service> before trying to do so?00:49
kurt_ah…wait00:49
kurt_you are destroying your environment completely00:49
zradminyeah im destroying each service individually right now and then seeing if it will let me destroy the environment00:54
zradminits not00:56
zradmingetting the mass 409 error still00:57
zradminok after removing all the nodes from maas it let me destory the environment00:57
zradminok well this is going to take a bit while the environment bootstraps itself again, but thank you kurt_ and sarnold for the assistance!00:59
zradmin(and the lesson in pastebin)00:59
kurt_zradmin: I figured you may need to do that.  you may be having some strange connectivity issues01:00
sarnoldgood luck zradmin :)01:01
kurt_sarnold: what does "agent-state-info: 'hook failed: "relation-changed"' mean?01:02
kurt_getting that from nova-cloud-controller after having deployed some other services01:02
sarnoldkurt_: eek, no idea, sorry01:03
kurt_sarnold: ok, thnx anyways01:03
zradmini had an issue with that under a .7, but got past it. what service are you adding a relation to nova-ccc when it gives you that message?01:04
kurt_zradmin: it happened sometime after deploying nova-compute and adding the relations01:06
zradminkurt_: was it connected to keystone/rabbitmq etc. already? Also are you following this guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/OpenStackHA01:08
kurt_zradmin: I'm loosely following that guide01:08
zradminkurt_: if your following the HA guide, my biggest problem stemmed from ceph not actually setting up the osd's properly, but from some reason it let me stand up the rest of the services with no noticable errors. The root of that was essentially that the serves never started on the VIPs so Nova-CCC was the first service to report a problem for me01:09
kurt_yes, that's a common problem a few of us have run in to.  its about topology too01:10
kurt_I'm actually trying to consolidate services down to as few nodes as possible01:11
kurt_and I'm definitely not doing HA, and I'm 100% on VMs in Vmware Fusion01:11
zradminyeah i was running alot of the core api services on vms as well01:12
kurt_I've gotten very close, but not having the topology right has bitten me more than once01:13
kurt_I've gotten everything done minus the ability to spin up VMs01:13
kurt_in openstack I mean01:13
kurt_I wasn't using ceph though...01:13
zradmini see. I was able to upload imaged on my last attempt and start creating instances, but they would never finish deploying - quantum was my issue i think.01:16

gnuoyI have a charm which populates data into a database when the db-relation-{joined,changed} hooks are fired. The process of loading the data can take > 30mins. The hook does not return until the load completes however juju status reports that the hook has successfully completed well before it actually has. Currently the charm doesn't log anything while the load is running, if that’s relevant. Is this the expected behaviour?07:35
wellsbI'm looking into implementing multiplayer functionality into an Ubuntu Touch game.  What charms should I be looking at?07:37
mgzgnuoy: I wondered whether a timeout might be involved, but as far as I can see, it's just Cmd.Wait when running hooks and no other logic07:55
mgzwellsb: what kind of thing are you after? I don't think there are any charms for game servers, unless nyancat counts. Looking at any charm which uses expose should give you some ideas though.07:59
wellsbmgz: I'm thinking about something like the channels api provides for google app engine.  Perhaps I can use node.js in tandem w/ haproxy to create a socket server?  Then my clients can connect to that?  I really don't have much experience in this area08:01
wellsbI guess without a pomelo or maple charm, this isn't really possible08:04
mgzwellsb: personally, I'd have a charm specific to your game server, rather than looking for a generic game-server charm that you then customise08:12
mgzso, you'd write a charm that installs and uses nodejs/pomelo, rather than trying to have a generic pomelo charm with enough configurability to work with any game08:13

fwereade_mgz, were there more you spotted?12:35
mgzjust the examples I think12:35
fwereade_mgz, thanks, well spotted12:37
fwereade_evilnickveitch, but also to say that there's an effort underway to get all useful-for-developers docs collected in one place12:37
evilnickveitchfwereade_, yeah, i know that, we aqre working out how that can be done12:38
fwereade_evilnickveitch, and that initial indications suggest that something like restructured text docs in juju-core itself may be the most suitable source format12:38
fwereade_evilnickveitch, but, yeah, the important thing is that you're aware12:38
fwereade_evilnickveitch, anyway I tried to cover all the stuff I could think of that's relevant for charm authors12:39
fwereade_evilnickveitch, the major holes are the subordinates page (which I think I recognise as basically the original spec document) and the implicit relations page (which I couldn't really make head or tail of)12:40
fwereade_evilnickveitch, but I didn't touch those for fear of never finishing12:40
evilnickveitchheh, I think m_3 already went over subordinates, but once the dust settles on all the new bits we should reappraise it12:41

marcoceppiavoine: how can we reproduce that error?16:15
avoineI guess you should have the error when deploying using lxc16:18
ahasenackmarcoceppi: I have a service that will only start (initscript-wise) after a db relation is joined16:19
ahasenackmarcoceppi: was wondering what's the best way to track that16:19
ahasenackmarcoceppi: touch a file at the end of db-relation-changed for example?16:19
ahasenackmarcoceppi: the problem is actually in config-changed, it tries to start the service at the end. But the hook execution order at deploy time is16:19
ahasenackmarcoceppi: install hook and then config-changed hook16:20
ahasenackso it's that run of config-changed where the start will fail, because it's not related to the db yet16:20
avoineahasenack: you can list relations and check if there is a db one16:21
marcoceppiahasenack: that's how I do it, touch files, etc16:21
ahasenackavoine: the question then becomes, will relation-ids only return established relations, or does it include broken ones in its output? Relations with errors16:21
marcoceppiahasenack: I touch a file, then run config-changed at the end of every hook, which will run hooks/start16:21
ahasenackmarcoceppi: ok16:21

jcastrojuju debug-logs19:05
kurt_yes, I do that19:05
kurt_output is above in pastebin :)19:05
jcastrokurt_: we're in your neck of the woods next month, I am wondering if we should just get together for beers with your stuff19:06
jcastroand get you sorted for real19:06
kurt_ah yeah sure :)19:06
kurt_where and when are you talking?19:06
kurt_lifeless: I was referring to debug-hooks - I am wondering how useful that will be here19:08
jcastroyikes, debug-hooks, not -logs19:08
jcastrosorry, long day!19:08
kurt_ah…ok, that makes more sense :D19:09
jcastrokurt_: week of 21 October, though hopefully it won't be this same issue, heh19:09

zradminis there a way in 1.13 to destroy subordinate services yet?19:34
marcoceppizradmin: yeah, you can destro subs for some time19:36
marcoceppizradmin: just remove the relation19:36
zradminmarcoceppi: odd, i removed the relation and the subordinate service and the main service have been stuck in a dying state for hours now19:37
marcoceppizradmin: can I see the juju status output?19:38
zradminmarcoceppi: here it is http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/6098492/19:39
marcoceppizradmin: it says the agents are stopped19:40
marcoceppizradmin: anyways, run `juju resolved mysql-hacluster/0; juju resolved mysql-hacluster/1`19:41
marcoceppizradmin: that should finish the removal of the subs, and then the final cleanup of the juju status19:41
marcoceppizradmin: whenever a unit (or sub) is in an error state all future events for that unit are queued and event processing is stopped, even on a destroy-service or removal of a sub19:41
marcoceppizradmin: you need to mark the error as resolved in order for juju to process the next event19:41
marcoceppizradmin: that's why you see it in life: dying but it's not dead, because it's stuck with an error19:42
lifelesszombie!19:42
marcoceppiI would yell at evilnickveitch because this isn't in the docs yet, but he just quit19:43
zradminmarcoceppi: ah ok, that makes sense - still relearning all the new changes in the go rewrite. in .7 it just seemed to do everything instantly19:44
zradminmarcoceppi: that worked btw, so tyvm!19:45
marcoceppizradmin: yeah, that was a bug (technically) that has been fixed in the rewrite19:45
marcoceppizradmin: you're welcome!19:45
kurt_Do debug-hooks work in 1.13.3?  It appears I need to manually set a bunch of environmental variables.  Maybe its not intended to work with the add-relations hooks?20:11
zradmintrying to deploy an haproxy for mysql im getting an error now where corosync isn't starting because its missing some principle? i've got the VIP etc set in my config file so i don't know what is missing to finish starting the service properly. here's the debug-log section thats relevant http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/6098666/20:22

marcoceppizradmin: haproxy for mysql, I dont' think those two play with each other21:46
AskUbuntuJuju debug-hooks for add-relation? | http://askubuntu.com/q/34486221:49
zradminmarcoceppi: its worked in the past, but it configures in active/passive mode (its also whats in the public documentation im following on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam/OpenStackHA)21:52
zradminmarcoceppi: i got a little farther with it, apparently maas and juju now deploy the nics as bridges (for lxc support maybe?) so i had to adjust the config for that but the VIP didn't come up21:53
