madnoobHi everyone, I am new to the Ubuntu world and wish to study and get certified. I am looking to study to be a Ubuntu Certified Professional however I am having trouble locating decent information on the testing centres and details about the exam, as alot of the links look to be expired or not working, can anyone please fill me in? Thanks01:38
jeaThis may be of use: http://askubuntu.com/questions/87445/what-is-the-current-state-of-the-ubuntu-professional-certification?rq=101:41
madnoobThanks jea, I have just contacted Canonical direct... everything is very hazy apprently they have there owe certification now seperate from LPI which they use to be combined with...01:47
jeaI don't actually know of anyone with Ubuntu Certification, so I don't know of anyone to point you to either01:49
madnoobyes I know everyone has RHEL certs, but in the Ubuntu world, that was the only cert I could locate and the details were all over the shop..01:50
jeaI don't know what companies want to see, but what would the Certification help you with?01:51
jeaCould you do a Linux Certification, then show you are involved with Ubuntu?01:51
madnoobI am not doing this for companies01:52
blahdeblahmadnoob: I'd definitely go for LPIC or RHEL before UCP.01:52
madnoobI am doing this for myself, primarily my company does not even recognise certs01:53
madnoobbladeblah I have LPIC 1/201:53
madnoobwas going to check out Ubuntu then RHEL01:53
blahdeblahRHEL is the most asked-for Linux cert; I'd definitely go for that first.01:53
madnoobtrue, however I thougt the Ubuntu one was theroy01:53
madnooblike multiple choice I want to be seriosuly over prepared01:54
madnoobbefore I take the RHEL01:54
madnoobas it's very pricey01:54
blahdeblahYeah.  I would have gone for RHEL myself already but it's expensive and I didn't want to risk failing due to not covering the material.01:54
blahdeblahAnd it's 100% practical - no multi-guess01:54
madnoobvery very true01:54
blahdeblahmadnoob: How did you find LPIC-2 compared with LPIC-1?01:54
madnoobthats why I wanna study like a mofo01:54
madnoobLPIC 201:54
madnoobtook me 6 months of study01:55
blahdeblahi.e. how hard was it compared with LPIC-1?01:55
madnoobmaking pracs myself01:55
madnoobto be honest the LPIC 20201:55
madnoobwas much harder then LPIC 20101:55
madnoobit's so all over the shop01:55
madnoobthey put so many exam topics01:55
madnooband you study like crazy01:55
madnoobto find they barly chucked in anything01:55
madnoobabout one topic01:56
madnooband tonnes about another01:56
madnoobso it's hard to answer 01:56
madnoobbut as your aware same exam format01:56
madnoobnot to mention RHEL try and pimp you for a course01:57
blahdeblahI'd been doing Linux for 17 years before I took LPIC-1, so I went in with zero preparation other than reading the guide, finished it in 1/3 of the allotted time and passed easily.  I was just curious about how much more difficult LPIC-2 is...01:57
madnoobbefore the exams01:57
madnooboh wow you have 17 years under your belt01:57
madnoobI have 5 01:57
madnoobyour 17 should get you there01:57
blahdeblahNo, now I have 19. :-)01:57
madnoobeasy01:57
madnoobwhoa01:57
madnoob!01:57
madnoobyou will be fine blahdeblah01:58
madnooblittle suprised you don't have the RHEL certs yet!01:58
blahdeblahBut I've worked on other stuff as well.  It's been a long time since I've recompiled the kernel from scratch or did GRUB troubleshooting...01:59
madnoobin my experience, there was barly anything on the GRUB side of things01:59
madnoobbut yes just go to kernel.org whip up a VM01:59
madnooband go crazy01:59
blahdeblahSo many of these certs are exercises in trivia; that's what I hate01:59
madnoobI know01:59
madnooband thats why companies hate them too02:00
madnoobbecause Jo-Blo02:00
madnoobare cheating all day long02:00
madnoobcompared to mr 17+ years expereince02:00
madnoobwho has no certs but real world exp02:00
madnoobwhich means way more any day02:00
blahdeblahThe only reason I haven't got my RHEL yet is that I'm paying for it myself, and also trying to study for my Masters and CCNP at the same time.  So RHEL has taken a bit of a back seat.02:00
madnoobLOL02:01
* blahdeblah should go get some sleep and then get into more study.02:01
madnoobyes a masters and CCNP will definatly take the life!!!!02:01
blahdeblahThanks for the chat, madnoob02:01
