[01:38] Hi everyone, I am new to the Ubuntu world and wish to study and get certified. I am looking to study to be a Ubuntu Certified Professional however I am having trouble locating decent information on the testing centres and details about the exam, as alot of the links look to be expired or not working, can anyone please fill me in? Thanks [01:41] This may be of use: http://askubuntu.com/questions/87445/what-is-the-current-state-of-the-ubuntu-professional-certification?rq=1 [01:47] Thanks jea, I have just contacted Canonical direct... everything is very hazy apprently they have there owe certification now seperate from LPI which they use to be combined with... [01:49] I don't actually know of anyone with Ubuntu Certification, so I don't know of anyone to point you to either [01:50] yes I know everyone has RHEL certs, but in the Ubuntu world, that was the only cert I could locate and the details were all over the shop.. [01:51] I don't know what companies want to see, but what would the Certification help you with? [01:51] Could you do a Linux Certification, then show you are involved with Ubuntu? [01:52] I am not doing this for companies [01:52] madnoob: I'd definitely go for LPIC or RHEL before UCP. [01:53] I am doing this for myself, primarily my company does not even recognise certs [01:53] bladeblah I have LPIC 1/2 [01:53] was going to check out Ubuntu then RHEL [01:53] RHEL is the most asked-for Linux cert; I'd definitely go for that first. [01:53] true, however I thougt the Ubuntu one was theroy [01:54] like multiple choice I want to be seriosuly over prepared [01:54] before I take the RHEL [01:54] as it's very pricey [01:54] Yeah. I would have gone for RHEL myself already but it's expensive and I didn't want to risk failing due to not covering the material. [01:54] And it's 100% practical - no multi-guess [01:54] very very true [01:54] madnoob: How did you find LPIC-2 compared with LPIC-1? [01:54] thats why I wanna study like a mofo [01:54] LPIC 2 [01:55] took me 6 months of study [01:55] i.e. how hard was it compared with LPIC-1? [01:55] making pracs myself [01:55] to be honest the LPIC 202 [01:55] was much harder then LPIC 201 [01:55] it's so all over the shop [01:55] they put so many exam topics [01:55] and you study like crazy [01:55] to find they barly chucked in anything [01:56] about one topic [01:56] and tonnes about another [01:56] so it's hard to answer [01:56] but as your aware same exam format [01:57] not to mention RHEL try and pimp you for a course [01:57] I'd been doing Linux for 17 years before I took LPIC-1, so I went in with zero preparation other than reading the guide, finished it in 1/3 of the allotted time and passed easily. I was just curious about how much more difficult LPIC-2 is... [01:57] before the exams [01:57] oh wow you have 17 years under your belt [01:57] I have 5 [01:57] your 17 should get you there [01:57] No, now I have 19. :-) [01:57] easy [01:57] whoa [01:57] ! [01:58] you will be fine blahdeblah [01:58] little suprised you don't have the RHEL certs yet! [01:59] But I've worked on other stuff as well. It's been a long time since I've recompiled the kernel from scratch or did GRUB troubleshooting... [01:59] in my experience, there was barly anything on the GRUB side of things [01:59] but yes just go to kernel.org whip up a VM [01:59] and go crazy [01:59] So many of these certs are exercises in trivia; that's what I hate [01:59] I know [02:00] and thats why companies hate them too [02:00] because Jo-Blo [02:00] are cheating all day long [02:00] compared to mr 17+ years expereince [02:00] who has no certs but real world exp [02:00] which means way more any day [02:00] The only reason I haven't got my RHEL yet is that I'm paying for it myself, and also trying to study for my Masters and CCNP at the same time. So RHEL has taken a bit of a back seat. [02:01] LOL [02:01] * blahdeblah should go get some sleep and then get into more study. [02:01] yes a masters and CCNP will definatly take the life!!!! [02:01] Thanks for the chat, madnoob [02:01] no worries take care! === Termana is now known as Guest17424 [09:07] blahdeblah: RHCE isn't that hard if you know your stuff.
