trijntje_unity has become unbearably slow on my acer apire, it takes over 60 secondes to open the dash, and over 30 to use alt-tab to switch between programs09:11
trijntje_how can I fix this? I think it started around the time I installed unity8, but I've since removed it and I still have this problem09:11
BluesKajHiyas all11:53
SuperLagtrijntje: I don't have any specific answers for you, but curious to know if your logs have anything revealing.13:51
SuperLagtrijntje: it seems odd to attribute it to Unity, because modern hardware should be able to handle Unity fine13:52
SuperLagtrijntje: and on a completely unrelated note... is your screen name Dutch?13:54
trijntjeSuperLag: well, I only have a problem with the transparent effects of unity, thats why I'm blaming unity ;)15:07

dupondjeSomebody here uses audacious ?16:56
dupondjeI become more hopeless every day :(17:28
dupondjenautilus crashing, audacious cause extreme cursor blinking, Xorg crashes @ random, ...17:30
brainwashnoticed some (small) annoying things too in saucy17:34
johnjohn101what kind of things?17:35
brainwashjust few examples, notify-osd not replacing the notification when changing volume (notifications gets queued), or seg fault when opening mocp due to librcc017:37
dupondjenautilus: unable to open Windows-network. Unable to open a bookmarked windows share. Crashing when closing.17:38
brainwashbug reports exists, so fixed packages will be released eventually17:38
dupondjeaudacious: start playing audio, and my cursor goes nuts on some places. Keeps blinking17:38
dupondjeXorg: suddenly a complete freeze. Mouse still works, but nothing reacts anymore. Only solution is to restart Xorg17:39
brainwashdupondje: you should report theses issues on launchpad17:39

FernandoMiguelhumm can't join #ubuntu-kernel17:59
FernandoMiguelmy network card isn't working with the latest kernel17:59
FernandoMiguel3.11.0-717:59
FernandoMiguelapw: ^ ^17:59
apwFernandoMiguel, hmmm, what version did it work with ...and indeed which network18:02
FernandoMiguelapw: 0-6 and *all* before was fine18:02
FernandoMiguel05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 06)18:03
apwFernandoMiguel, then that is very odd cause there is no specific changes for that in the -6 -> -7 change ... plus there is very little change at all18:05
FernandoMiguelapw: rebooting into 6 works18:05
FernandoMigueltwo boots into 7 and only wifi18:05
FernandoMiguelhow can I debug it further ?18:05
FernandoMiguelgot the logs of the previous boots18:05
ChogyDanFernandoMiguel: post them?18:09
FernandoMiguelChogyDan: sure. sec18:09
FernandoMiguel$ pastebinit syslog.118:10

FernandoMiguelhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/6116032/18:10
FernandoMiguelapw: ^^18:10
ChogyDanFernandoMiguel: no idea, but something else: are you worried about harddrive errors?18:20
FernandoMiguelChogyDan: I should be, right?18:21
FernandoMiguelthis SSD won't last long18:21
FernandoMiguelI already lost a partition last week18:21
ChogyDanFernandoMiguel: I dunno, I would be.  If it is going... that usually means that it's death is imminent.  HDDs have a built in mechanism to handle a few bad sectors.  If that is getting used up, then I think something is very wrong.  I'm not sure about SSDs, but I would be similarly worried18:22
FernandoMiguelChogyDan: it's a very old 1st gen kingston18:23
FernandoMiguelI've been planing to replace it with a newer 256GBs from samsung... need a job 1st18:23
FernandoMiguelor for it to die completely and force me to buy a new one18:23
FernandoMiguelI don't usually have much stuff localy (small drive, two 30GBs partitions)18:23
FernandoMigueland I've got backups of most stuff18:23
ChogyDanFernandoMiguel: are ssds really worth it?  I feel like RAM is better... maybe just get a standard hdd18:39
FernandoMiguelChogyDan: they are. definitely18:39
FernandoMiguelI have 8GBs of RAM18:39
FernandoMigueltrust me... SSDs are awesome. at work I have a 7200 HDD... it's toooo slow18:40
ChogyDanhmmm, I have a standard, probably slower HDD, and it is way faster than what I'm used to, so that's my perspective  :)18:41
ChogyDanFernandoMiguel: hey, maybe try this command, just to check: debsums linux-image-3.11.0-7-generic  | grep ^OK&18:42
ChogyDanI _think_ that's coded correctly18:42
FernandoMiguelinstalling18:43
FernandoMiguelall ok18:44

FernandoMiguelstill, my ethercard bug remains :(18:50
