[05:36] other way round. 4.11 [05:36] i followed a link to make kubuntu faster [05:36] Kilos: that's just looking for trouble [05:36] major data use and everything changed [05:37] i had lotsa probs, with black screen and not booting past password and so on but it seems ok at last [05:37] only the blue screen i dont like [05:38] but it seems a bit faster now [05:39] blue background that is [05:48] hi bduk1 [05:48] hi mazal [05:48] More oom [05:51] hi Xethron [05:53] morning [05:54] hi Squirm [06:00] môre inetpro [06:03] hi Kilos inetpro [06:03] Squirm: [06:03] hi theblazehen [06:03] hey theblazehen [06:03] no school? [06:03] Morning everyone [06:03] Kilos: free period [06:03] aha [06:04] arent you supposed to study in free periods [06:04] yeah. on my phone [06:04] I guess [06:04] ai! you okes and these modern fones [06:10] is that how peeps pass nowadays by googling for answers on fones [06:10] hehe [06:11] lol not usually :p [06:12] they don't let you keep phone [06:17] lol [06:54] Hi Kilos [07:17] hi Vince-0 [07:18] Hi Oom Kilos [07:19] oh my , you also going with the oom now [07:19] sjoe [07:27] Its the Afrikaans way [07:29] hehe [07:30] south african way actually [07:30] we were taught anyone 10 years older than you is uncle or aunt [07:31] yep me2 and we're souties [07:31] haha [07:31] we were called rooinek [07:33] watched Elysium last night - they put in a thick accent on the mercenaries [07:35] Sholto sings Jan pierewiet [07:36] creepy [07:45] lol [07:47] Maaz: is mail.google.com up? [07:48] nuvolari: Yes, http://mail.google.com/ is up [07:48] Maaz: you're a liar [07:48] nuvolari: What? [07:48] :P [07:48] yes [07:48] haha [07:48] môre nuvolari [07:50] yeah i now have a girlfriend, whose parents are originally from Brittain [07:51] cant exactly call them oom or tannie, they will chase me away [07:52] hahaha [07:53] the english think calling them that makes them old [07:53] its kinda cool though, she has this brittish accent, I am still not used to it [07:54] and I am teaching her to speak afrikaans [07:54] peeps should accept that age creeps up on everyone [07:54] let her watch some old afrikaans movies [07:54] those jamie uys movies are good [07:55] the gods must be crazy etc [07:55] môre oom Kilos [07:56] oom nuvolari [07:59] kde 4.11 is quite lekker [08:22] +1 Kilos , gods must be crazy 1 is baie snaaks en nog genuine old-school humor [08:22] yeah [08:23] i forget the other ones [08:23] I watched that one again not too long ago and laughed so lekker [08:23] oh ya beautiful people [08:24] What is the one with the talking and singing animals ? That was hilarious but can never remember the name [08:25] might be beautiful people [08:25] where the animals get dronk on marulas [08:26] Yeah ! [08:28] hello peeps [08:33] G'day [08:38] hi ThatGraemeGuy min dae [08:40] 4! :-) [08:41] oh hi oom Vince-0 [08:41] How are you? [08:42] hi ThatGraemeGuy [08:46] mazal: het barry daai router gekoop [08:46] ? [08:50] Nee oom , hy het 'n ander telkom een gekoop [08:50] Daai een was te duur [08:51] Maar die telkom een het ook als is , selfoon goete , adsl , wi-fi en ethernet [08:51] mooi [08:52] Hy het net nie lekker ontvangs nie , en die 3g diconnect wanneer hy idle [09:08] hi charl [09:09] mazal: hy sal sy pc moet stel om te ping die hele tyd [09:10] my pc disconnect van my router maar 3g bly lewendig, sal nog moet soek hoekom [09:10] good morning [09:10] hi Kilos [09:10] tried tmux yesterday but can't say i see the advantages above screen [09:11] just has a terribly ugly lime-green bar at the bottom that screen (thankfully) doesn't have [09:12] hehe i did a ppa thing that ate up 672m data then couldnt boot past password and black screens and lotsa crazy stuffs but now i got kde 4.11 running lekker [09:13] ah kde 4.11 - glad to hear [09:13] haven't tried that yet, is it much different from 4.10? [09:13] just faster i think, i also did some disabling of stuff [09:13] Anybody else notice Firefox issues lately ? [09:14] but it wasnt worth the trouble to get it working again [09:14] mage will ask me why i didnt reinstall [09:14] hehe [09:14] mazal: what do you do with your browser [09:14] im still using archlinux, that looks like crunchbang, really like it still [09:15] dno how you guys can use kde :P [09:15] i dont enjoy the xfce stuff tinuva [09:15] All of a sudden I have many sites that don't work , especially drop-down boxes and forms that must be filled in. This is on 3 different pc's and installs on both 12.04 and 13.04. I know it's firefox related as chromium works on every site that don't work with firefox. Anybody know of an update that broke something in firefox ? [09:15] but love kde and unity in 12.04 [09:16] Kilos, what xfce stuff? crunchbang uses openbox/tint2 not xfce [09:17] oh i couldnt get crunchbang to connect with 3g [09:17] i get mixed up with them all [09:18] kde takes getting used to but quite cool once you sorta understand it [09:18] maybe its because i am old school [09:18] http://thor.hero.za.net/upload/archdesktop_atwork_20130905.png [09:18] and the underlining function in konversation saves tons of scroll backs [09:25] tinuva: that looks pretty elegant what you have there [09:26] is that a custom setup on archlinux? or some standardised thing? [09:26] archlinux you have to build yourself, but I got the idea after trying out Crunchbang linux [09:27] I really liked how it worked and looked, but I didnt like the fact that Crunchbang is based on Debian [09:27] so decided to build it on Archlinux [09:27] Debian's software is usually too old for me, even though it is rock solid stable [09:27] Archlinux is up to date with most software in the Linux world, which I like a lot [09:35] i cant build stuff so gotta use what works [10:12] tinuva: what panel is that at the bottom? i used to use tint2 but this looks different [10:13] tinuva: i used to use tint2 and openbox on ubuntu but in the latest version of ubuntu it seems like openbox is broken or something [10:14] here's an old screenshot of mine: https://github-camo.global.ssl.fastly.net/c2ad4e318dcf7d195e0adb5340e5512772837da7/687474703a2f2f692e696d6775722e636f6d2f6d4e4f44522e6a7067 [10:15] charl, that panel at the bottom is still tint2, I just modified the config a bit so that it can look like that [10:15] ps, you should try out terminator for terminal applet :P [10:15] otherwise your screen is cool [10:16] are those terminal emulators? [10:17] ooh my goodness, terminator is ugly [10:19] lol [10:20] i have this red bar at the top [10:20] probably configurable but still [10:20] what is terminal applet though? [10:21] http://thor.hero.za.net/upload/Screenshot%20-%2009162013%20-%2012:20:50%20PM.png [10:21] check that [10:21] ah that looks much nicer, is that after configuration? [10:21] yeah [10:21] how do you switch between tabs [10:21] well you split the panes on demand using shortcuts [10:22] there is a shortcut for that too [10:22] though you can use the mouse [10:22] i don't want to use the mouse :P [10:22] i just like it, cause it has tables like the gnome one, but also because you can split a tab into multiple panes [10:22] my whole desktop has been organised in a way that i have minimal reliance on the mouse [10:22] i never really split tabs, i just want an easy way to launch tabs and switch between them [10:22] ok just check the preferances for the shortcuts, you can modify that too if you want [10:23] ctrl+alt+n works for launching a new tab but alt+1 etc and shift+left and right arrows don't work [10:23] checking [10:23] i see them, the switch_to_tab options [10:24] all disabled by default [10:24] ah i changed the red too, although looking much better [10:24] so yeah, you can just change all of it, to what you are used to, and tada [10:25] but if you dont need to split panes...then you dont really need terminator [10:25] thats pretty much the reason I have it [10:25] yeah i don't care about it, i use i3 so i can tile all windows the way i want them [10:25] using the keyboard :P [10:26] i like that irc client you're using, hexchat [10:26] looks better than xchat [10:29] its basically xchat, but a newer version [10:30] ubuntu with their slow release update, is still on the older xchat, which doesnt get updated anymore [10:30] hexchat is a fork from xchat, and still gets regular updates [10:30] i have seen many of these arch-based distro's [10:30] which is one of the reasons why i like archlinux, so that i can be on newer versions of software all the time [10:30] they also look quite good but i guess i should just start from scratch [10:31] well you can do what i did [10:31] need to make some time for this [10:31] nah i would go for i3 (for a start) etc [10:31] i started my archlinux build inside a virtualbox vm, so it took me 4 weeks to build it the way i like it, in that time i was still on crunchbang so that i could still do other work ect [10:31] bbl need to go out to lunch [10:31] yeah i'll do it the same [10:31] 4 weeks later when my arch build was done, i migrated to that on my physical machine [10:31] cheers, enjoy lunch [10:31] first start inside a vm [10:31] ciao [10:33] wbb going to unity [11:32] seems coming from Unity not that easy [11:59] hmm... [12:03] hmm? [12:04] Maaz, hmm... [12:04] hmm... is often used to try make others believe one is actually thinking [12:05] Lol Kilos . what are you thinking? [12:05] i see an i/o error on booting [12:06] i/o error zram0 block so and so [12:06] put other ram in but its not that [12:06] the swap thing [12:24] hmm... [12:25] ThatGraemeGuy, you got some time to read a link? [12:25] or tinuva [12:25] mmm? [12:25] http://shmilyxbq-compcache.googlecode.com/hg/README [12:25] zram stuff [12:26] never seen it before [12:26] but zram.config is in the repos [12:26] why do you want to use zram? [12:27] i get an error in booting that says i/o error zram0 [12:28] about 6 lines then boot proceeds [12:30] ive installed it with synaptic and it gave the error it couldnt start zram [12:30] did a aptitude reinstall and it started [12:31] whatever it might be [12:56] tinuva, i found this about it http://slexy.org/raw/s21ZcN68Qv [12:57] are you running out of memory? [12:57] Maaz, seen inetpro [12:57] Kilos: inetpro was last seen 1 day, 14 hours, 42 minutes and 39 seconds ago in #ubuntu-za on freenode [2013-09-15 00:14:24 SAST], and has been online on freenode since 2013-09-11 02:56:12 SAST [12:57] at times pc does go slow when opening or running stuff [12:57] got 1.5g ram [12:57] Bye everyone , enjoy your evening [12:57] cheers mazal [12:57] you too ty [13:50] whow vmware doesn't even seem to have support for arch [13:50] that's pretty terrible [13:50] time to move back to virtualbox :) [13:50] vmware was well ahead of virtualbox at the start but i feel virtualbox has done more than overtake vmware at the moment [13:50] any thoughts? [13:51] hiya maiatoday [13:51] hi maiatoday [13:56] um [13:56] vmware is a huge company [13:56] i assume you are referring to vmware workstation? [13:57] because virtualbox is the lego beach buggy to vSphere's F1 car :) [13:57] hehe [14:08] yes sorry i should have added that [14:08] vmware workstation [14:09] yeah vmware has all this vcloud and vsphere stuff [14:09] at work we use that too but i don't work on that personally [14:09] ESX with vSphere or something [14:11] hi charl [14:12] hi psychicist [14:32] wb psychicist [14:33] hi hi [14:33] hi Squirm [14:34] ty charl [14:34] hi Squirm [15:18] wbb [15:50] sigh [15:50] hi kbmonkey [16:17] QA google google how to show hidden home files on kubuntu [16:17] Kilos: I'm not feeling too well [16:18] QA google how to show hidden home files on kubuntu [16:18] Kilos: I'm not feeling too well [16:18] hmm...
