dougiel:)00:24
SporkWitchskreech__: that makes me cry.  better would be to simply click the "always" when it asks, and then it only asks once per login01:14
skreech__SporkWitch: It does that too01:15

SporkWitchlooks like the only REALLY bad move is turning the wallet off entirely, since then you've got plaintext passwords floating around your system01:18
SporkWitchat least it still encrypts them even if you don't use a password01:19
skreech__yes 01:19
SporkWitchskreech__: so, know anything about zsh themes?01:20
skreech__No I'm not the zsh guy :)01:26
skreech__SporkWitch: Robertknight is the konsole maintainer if you want to contact him01:28
SporkWitchbit high up the chain to bug with a rookie question lol01:28
skreech__SporkWitch: Welcome to FOSS Its' a pretty small chain01:29
SporkWitchi'm sure it's something silly, but zsh themes aren't in any language i'm familiar with, and there's craploads of substitutions and the like, so it's difficult to work with at first, heh01:29
SporkWitchstill seems weird lol01:29
skreech__SporkWitch: yeah :) You could bounce into #zsh and shout out Sure they have some resources and people who are very into themes01:30
SporkWitchalready did, including a link to the whole theme on github and a pastebin of the relevant lines 01:30
SporkWitchmay be a noob to the things i've been playing with lately (mostly vim and zsh, and some of what i'm doing with python), but not to the concept of posting up the needed info if you want help :)01:31
skreech__:-)01:34
skreech__I like most FOSS communities they are pretty willing to help. Even if it's just other people who have 2 weeks more experience than you01:35
SporkWitchyup; you run into some asses occasionally, but most are helpful (especially since we want converts :P lol)01:35
SporkWitchjust read the manual first, or you get well-deserved ridicule :)01:36
skreech__yeah Manuals are well done 01:36
SporkWitchUSUALLY, not always, heh01:37
skreech__After answering the same question 70 times writing things down becomes a great relief and assist01:37
skreech__Well I mean in terms of sometimes I'll pick up closed services or products and the manual is something on the lines of. Contact this number for paid support 01:37
SporkWitchhehe, gotta love it01:41
SporkWitchmy personal favourite is what Ubisoft starting doing a while back: a single page insert talking about how they're trying to protect the environment, so all the manuals are on the disk and nigh-useless (really they just want to save the money of printing good manuals)01:42

ikonia!flash > lars__ 13:45
ubottulars__, please see my private message13:45
lars__ok13:46
lars__am I supposed to install java tea time instead of Adobe flash, so I can access YouTube videos?13:48
lars__It looks like I can download Adobe Flash for Linux from the Adobe website, but I was told you should not download software that way, because it is safer to download software from the Muon Software Center13:48
lars__Is that true?13:48
ikoniathats up to you13:48

lars__Well, itś not so much an issue of safety, but I have never tried downloading and installing software from a website, so I dont even know if it will work13:50

lars__WEll, I just installed the whole Kubuntu 12.04 system less than a week ago14:34

BluesKajapt . muon use the dpkg system to install pacjages , they're just separate apps that use dpkg underneath to do the installing14:35
lars__I mean, all the software was updated a few times since the installation14:35
BluesKajlars__, open a terminal , sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade14:36

SenjaiHow can I enable restricted drivers on Ubuntu 13.10?18:02
SenjaiI dont have an advanced tab18:02
Pici7.10 :|18:04
SenjaiPici: Yeah, well I'm looking all around, I dont have "Hardware Drivers" anywhere on my system..18:09
Senjaior anything that would show me the drivers18:09
PiciSenjai: The executable is called jockey-kde, I'm not sure what menu it live in nowadays though.18:10
geniiSenjai: Applications....System.... Additional Drivers18:10
Senjaigenii: nope18:11
SenjaiPici: didn't have that either, I'm just fetching it from apt18:11
Piciwait, 13.10? 18:11
geniiSenjai: Need to have the "restricted" repository enabled18:12
Senjai13.04 sorry18:12
SenjaiPici: thank you for pointing out the name of the program18:12
Senjaiit's installing the driver now18:12
SenjaiI  hate having to go through the GUI :/18:13
PiciMe too. Thats why I don't know where it is.  I don't even use KDE myself.18:14
SenjaiPici: What do you use?18:14
PiciSenjai: XFCE on my HTPC, or just zsh.18:14
loadid_czechSenjai: it's under additional drivers in the system menu18:15
Senjailoadid_czech: It wasn't18:15
loadid_czechyou're on KDE18:15
loadid_czechi see genii already pointed that out18:15
SenjaiPici: I use zsh for everything except things I dont know how to use... I couldnt even find it by looking through the repo.18:15
Senjailoadid_czech: Well it wasn't there, sorry. 18:15
loadid_czechno, it's not a package18:15
Senjailoadid_czech: I installed jockey and that seemed to do the job18:16
genii!info jockey-kde18:16

polteris there a good GUI Firewall for KDE in the repos?19:51
bpromptthe only thing I've seen in the repositories is "gufw"   which is the frontend for UFW20:01
polterbprompt: yeah but that GTK right?20:07
bpromptyes20:11
polterhm, well it's too bad there isn't something in System Settings to do some simple Firewall config20:14
bpromptahemm.... well, there's  a control module -> http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=13778920:16
polterbprompt: yeah I saw that, don't really file like building anything from source for this20:17
bpromptI just didn't find a .deb install for it, though you can always try for that package at say... rpmfind.com or rpmseek.com   neverminding the "rpm" part, they have also .deb compiled packages as well20:17
bpromptI used this one a while back, I think it was in kubuntu 10.10 or so   -> http://www.kmyfirewall.org/index.php?kat=Download20:18
bpromptdidn't find it in the repository for 12.04 though20:19
polterbprompt: looks like that's for KDE3 though20:19
bpromptyes, kde3 packages can still run on kde420:19
bpromptI run   hmmm about 3 or more kde3 packages just fine20:19
bpromptit's just a matter of installing the necessary libs20:20
polterbprompt: yeah I know, I might just use that, or build from source.. we'll see20:21
polterthanks for you help20:21
bpromptI for example, use kxmleditor  which shows as kde3.5.1, runs fine20:21
polterI can't be too picky about running qt4 only.. seeing as I am a Firefox user :)20:22
bprompthttp://www.rpmseek.com/rpm-pl/kmyfirewall.html?hl=com&cs=kmyfirewall:PN:0:0:0:0:0    <---   there are a few .deb for it20:25
polterthanks20:27

arthurfiggishello :) i'm trying to get 13.04 installed and everything seems to go just fine...up until i reboot, and it says that no os is detected :( in addition to that it doesn't appear to detect that i already have 64 bit windows 7 installed on the same hard drive...any ideas on what i could be getting wrong?22:29
valoriearthurfiggis: your grub is hosed22:35
valorie!grub22:35
ubottuGRUB2 is the default Ubuntu boot manager. Lost GRUB after installing Windows? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestoreGrub - For more information and troubleshooting for GRUB2 please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub222:35
valorielook at the troubleshooting link there, arthurfiggis22:36
arthurfiggisvalorie: thanks, i will certainly take a look and see if i can get it sorted out that way :) i don't have ubuntu installed yet though...i was trying to install it along side windows 7, but the installer is detecting my hard drive as having no partitions22:37
bprompthmmm22:38
bpromptarthurfiggis:    still have the livecd/usb for kubuntu?22:38
arthurfiggisin fact the only distrobution that i've been able to get to install fresh is fedora 19, and that's bugged out lately :( 22:38
arthurfiggisbprompt: oh yes, that's what i'm here with now22:38
bpromptarthurfiggis:   is your hd, the one in that same machine the live session is on?22:39
arthurfiggisbprompt: i...think so, if i understand your question correctly :) i'm trying to install from a cd to a hard drive on the same machine...the hard drive already has a working windows 7 install on it22:39
arthurfiggisjust not according to the installer though...and if i install from scratch, it doesn't boot :(22:40
arthurfiggisi suspect some sort of efi/uefi problem but i don't know how to get around it22:40
bpromptarthurfiggis:     hmmm, is kubuntu and win7 installed already?22:40
arthurfiggisbprompt: windows 7 is already installed, kubuntu is what i'm trying to install now22:41
arthurfiggisbut according to the installer there are no pre-existing partitions on my hard drive :(22:41
sorakunso it fails detecting the OS22:42
arthurfiggissorakun: yes, it fails to detect there's even a partitioning scheme on the hard drive22:42
arthurfiggissorry if that wasn't clear before :)22:42
bpromptarthurfiggis:     .... ok... well.... right.... well.. how about a "manual" option in where it asks you for the partition to install it at?22:42
arthurfiggisit wouldn't be a problem except f i do a fresh install it doesn't detect the os being installed...very strange :(22:43
loadid_czechif you fdisk -l in the live session does it see partitions?22:43
arthurfiggisbprompt: i did try manually creating an efi partition and separate / and home partitions...and the install went fine...but when i rebooted it went straight to trying to boot from network, didn't detect the os at all :(22:43
arthurfiggisloadid_czech: that i haven't tried, one second while i run it22:44
sorakunis it a new version of kubuntu ur trying to install?22:44
arthurfiggishmm...fdisk -l in the live session produces no output at all22:44
loadid_czechi'm not sure what to say about that.. sounds like a hardware issue22:45
bpromptarthurfiggis:    sudo fdisk -l22:46
loadid_czechohhh yeah, good call22:46
sorakunarthurfiggis: is it a new version of kubuntu ur trying to install?22:46
bpromptthe live session root has no password, but you'd still need the sudo part anyhow22:47
arthurfiggishello again, thanks for the help...as someone here pointed out, i needed to install kubuntu via the "legacy boot" option in order for it to boot after installation :) unfortunately i also would have had to install windows 7 the same way for it to be detected, so i just blew away windows 7 and happily installed kubuntu over it23:23
bpromptblew away win7?23:25
bpromptwhat do you mean?23:26
arthurfiggisbprompt: well, windows 7 i installed without selecting "legacy boot" and unfortunately according to the person i was speaking with, it would have had to have been installed that way for kubuntu, being booted with "legacy boot," would see it...stupid uefi implementation on my machine apparently23:28
arthurfiggisi can have both installed at the same time but only installed the same way...so i figured i'd skip windows 7 for now :)23:28
bprompthmmm23:29
arthurfiggisit didn't seem to make sense but i got kubuntu installed without any grub errors this time!23:29
bpromptarthurfiggis:    my understanding is that, UEFI may have issues in linux if keeping SecureBoot enabled, which doesn't affect win64... but that's disableable in BIOS23:30
arthurfiggisi know next to nothing about uefi though, except that i'm going to make sure the next machine i have can absolutely, positively turn that nastiness off :)23:30
arthurfiggisbprompt: that's the problem with my machine...there isn't actually an option to turn it off in the bios, when you install an os, you have to install it with "legacy boot" or it won't boot period23:30
arthurfiggis(hence stupid uefi implementation i guess :()23:30
bprompthmmm23:31
arthurfiggisit was a windows 7 i3 machine that came out a few months before windows 8, so it has uefi without it being windows 8 certified...ugly piece of work that :P23:31
bpromptI see23:31
bpromptheheh23:31
arthurfiggis(since it can avoid having an explicit legacy boot option)23:31
arthurfiggis(in the bios :) i don't know what i'm talking about by the way)23:32
bpromptlol23:32
arthurfiggisas long as i can run a decent linux distribution and a recent version of kde i'm  happy :) incidentally though, does kubuntu have any sort of gui interface to selinux similar to fedora's? i found that was quite convenient, it was everything else blowing up on updates that turned me off there23:35
bpromptdunno23:36
arthurfiggishm...i'll have to look around :) i'm sure there are plenty of ways of securing ubuntu besides23:37
