R0b0t1 | How can I only install grub from the lubuntu livecd? | 02:11 |
Stryker | Can someone tell me how to install the drivers of a Canon MP287 All-in-one printer on a lubuntu 13.04 | 02:28 |
Stryker | please? | 02:28 |
phillw | Stryker: bear with me... | 02:29 |
Stryker | phillw sorry? | 02:29 |
phillw | Stryker: aka give me a few minutes to seek out the information you need. | 02:30 |
Stryker | I see, thank you. | 02:30 |
phillw | Stryker: still looking... there are instructions, but they are some what involved... looking for some thing less scary. | 02:34 |
Stryker | phillw would the drivers for ubuntu 12.04 work? | 02:38 |
phillw | Stryker: I'd suggest heading over to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrinters and work your way through. | 02:40 |
Stryker | phillw got it thanks mate | 02:42 |
Stryker | phillw and btw, i just installed some applications from the software center, where do they usually go? | 02:43 |
Stryker | I mean where can I find them\ | 02:43 |
phillw | Stryker: they will be under the menu button (usually the button on bottom left, or top left) depending where you have your bar. If you know what 'group' the applications are, they should safely arrive into that group. | 02:46 |
phillw | Stryker: http://blog.sudobits.com/2012/04/05/canon-pixma-mp287-printer-driver-for-ubuntu/ | 02:49 |
Stryker | phillw yes i already have that. trying ti now | 02:58 |
Stryker | problem i encountered on those drivers are they dont report back the ink levels | 02:58 |
Stryker | well that was on ubuntu 12.04 | 02:58 |
phillw | Stryker: time for bed... 4am here! | 02:58 |
Stryker | ok thanks mate! | 02:59 |
phillw | I've seen the report of no ink levels | 02:59 |
phillw | I've not found a work around it.... give me a few more minutes and i'll see if there is a way around it. | 03:00 |
SergioMeneses | hi guys! good evening | 03:00 |
phillw | Stryker: the only thing I can found is https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/ink/ | 03:02 |
phillw | Stryker: that was from the thread http://askubuntu.com/questions/207491/i-cant-see-my-ink-levels-for-my-canon-pixma-ip2702-printer | 03:05 |
Stryker | phillw thanks much appreciate it a lot | 03:05 |
phillw | linux users do tend to heard towards HP printers, as they do have good support for linux. I've also found epson printers to just be recognised. But, I'd do a +1 for using HP printer/scanners as they have taken the time to make a very functional system for linux people. | 03:07 |
phillw | My sister has an HP all-in-one. when I sent her a laptop with lubuntu on it, once she had installed the hplib application, all of her 'all in one' functioned fully. | 03:09 |
phillw | I'm sorry to say that is far as I can go. Stryker one thing you can do is to find the customer services email address for canon and complain. "I'll never buy one of your systems ever again & tell others not to as you do not provide linux drivers is a disgrace" sort of thing will make one more little voice to those who complain and maybe one day they will be as enlightened as HP is... you can also mention that in your complaint :D | 03:12 |
Stryker | phillw will prolly do that | 03:15 |
Stryker | thank you | 03:15 |
R0b0t1 | How can I only install grub from the lubuntu livecd? | 03:19 |
Stryker | R0b0t1 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing | 03:24 |
Stryker | any idea how to install nvidia cards on lubuntu? | 03:24 |
R0b0t1 | thanks | 03:38 |
phillw | Stryker: head over to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia the tag is there as the GUI bit has been changed. | 03:40 |
phillw | Stryker: if you can update it to the latest info, please do so! it is a trial use of the new tag. | 03:42 |
Stryker | got it | 03:51 |
R0b0t1 | Stryker, wait, will installing it via the GUI wipe the partition? | 03:52 |
phillw | R0b0t1: what have you managed to do? | 03:59 |
phillw | R0b0t1: head over to http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=35 | 04:01 |
phillw | R0b0t1: or did you delete grub itself? | 04:02 |
R0b0t1 | No I'm just trying to install it | 04:03 |
R0b0t1 | issue with the gentoo snapshot, as usual | 04:03 |
R0b0t1 | I've already set up the system on my HD, just needing to configure grub | 04:03 |
R0b0t1 | I have a separate /boot | 04:03 |
R0b0t1 | Oh | 04:04 |
R0b0t1 | I'll try grub-install from within lubunt | 04:04 |
phillw | R0b0t1: have a read of https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing#Reinstalling_GRUB_2 | 04:04 |
R0b0t1 | yeah | 04:04 |
R0b0t1 | sorry | 04:04 |
phillw | I always assume the worst scenario, and then breath a sigh of relief if it does not require such brain surgery :) | 04:05 |
