tinyghosthi! can the .iso installer on the xubuntu.org web site be used as a USB installer?02:52
tinyghostlike, just dd it to a disk without having to use unetbootin or whatever it's called02:52
tinyghostI'm gonna install it on a netbook without a cd drive02:53
tinyghostaw you're all asleep :(02:54
XRS1yes you can DD the ISO to USB without unetbootin02:54
tinyghostlovely! thank you very much :302:55
XRS1but if you dd directly to the netbook, the netbook is just gonna be a xubuntu installer02:55
pmjdebru1jnhi guys08:03
Drekihi08:03
pmjdebru1jnI'm running saucy on a netbook, and I love the changes to lightdm :)08:03
pmjdebru1jnthough I just noticed something (though not xubuntu specific)08:03
pmjdebru1jnit seems saucy's libc is built with gcc 4.7.x while most of the rest is built with 4.8.x08:04
bazhang#ubuntu+1 for saucy08:04

DaRKFoRTuNeGuys, Anyone knows why my Xubuntu live from a 16gig usb drive is pretty slow with booting/loading?13:30
bgardnerDaRKFoRTuNe: My own experience is that some of the larger USB drives have I/O issues that severely hamper their performance.13:31
DaRKFoRTuNeAh, So smaller usb is possibly the solution?13:31
bgardnerDaRKFoRTuNe: Yes, if that's your own issue - I found that the 4GB drives are fastest, in my unscientific testing.13:32
DaRKFoRTuNeNice, I have a 4gig in front of me. =D13:33
DaRKFoRTuNeAnd yes, It's the only issue I got so far.13:33
bgardnerDaRKFoRTuNe: Please let us know how that goes, I'd be curious to know if that resolves it for you.13:33
DaRKFoRTuNeI will!13:34
ElectricErgerHey there. I'm interested in helping Xubuntu in the future, but I don't think I have enough knowledge now to do such ATM. Are there any recommendations to grow my skill level?13:34
DaRKFoRTuNeUse it, test it, report it.13:36
DaRKFoRTuNeGet feedback, mess around with it.13:36
bgardnerElectricErger: See: http://xubuntu.org/contribute/13:36
ElectricErgerCool. I hope I can do something then13:37
ElectricErgerI probably shouldn't be on IRC in class so I'mma go now. Sorry to seem like that guy that asks and runs13:37
DaRKFoRTuNeNp :P13:39
DaRKFoRTuNeTurns out my 4gig usb is broken...13:39
DaRKFoRTuNeLets hunt for some other drives!13:40
GridCubeDaRKFoRTuNe, live sessions are slow, if you do install to the flash drive your real sessions will be a whole lot faster13:41
GridCuberemember taht live sessions dump lots of the system to ram13:41
DaRKFoRTuNeIt isn't loading normally, It takes about twice the time to load Xubuntu than ubuntu (Both live)13:43
GridCubeusing a real install to a flash drive and booting from it its just like booting from an internal hd (wven taking to account the limit of speed of usb transfer)13:43
DaRKFoRTuNeI use mainly live version for the computers at my school.13:43
GridCubei would not know about that13:43
DaRKFoRTuNeBut yeah, I could try to install it ON the usb instead of running it live from13:44

benxyzzy1My recently-used.xbel has 88 items, but Places > Recent Documents only contains 10 . I don't think they're even the 10 most recent. Can I make this list display longer?19:04
puffI have a thinkpad t520.  I recently installed ubuntu 13.4, then xubuntu-desktop.  My wireless network drops out repeatedly, every 30-45 minutes.  Sometimes I can reconnect by using gnome network manager to select my wireless router, other times the wireless router doesn't appear in the listing and I have to uncheck/recheck Enable Networking to get back onlnie.21:19
well_laid_lawnis something putting the device to sleep as a power saving option?21:20
well_laid_lawnmaybe even in the bios?21:20
puffwell_laid_lawn: Good question, but I don't think so.  Hm.21:20
puffNothing in the power settings.  It has "put the display to sleep" when inactive for 10 minutes, but that's just the display.21:21

PoindextraHi! I'm trying to boot up from a USB disk of 13.04 on my HP Mini 110, but at a certain point I get a Xubuntu login prompt. I can't seem to google-fu any answers about this, but is there a way to skip/bypass/login so I can install Xubuntu completely on my netbook?23:33
YinsengCan someone help me out? I stuck Xubuntu 12.04 LTS on my old Dell Inspiron 700m. It works great, much faster than it was working on Windows XP. Except now the VGA output just doesn't want to output to my projector for some reason. It recognizes it in the Display section, I manually set it to the correct resolution, and then press Fn+F8 to try and use it, but it just doesn't take.23:50
YinsengThis uses Intel graphics so no Nvidia or ATI tool is gonna help23:50
SonikkuAmericaYinseng: How do your System Settings > Monitors work?23:51
YinsengYou mean Display?23:51
SonikkuAmericaYinseng: Yeah, whatever it's called (I have yet to set up my *buntu VMs)23:59
YinsengLaptopIt lists the projector as Sony 100", though it selects the wrong resolution by default, so I just set it to 1024x768 manually23:59
