NoskcajCan we get one of the xubuntu members as an admin on the xubuntu sub-reddit? Then we could get a flair like the ubuntu subrddit02:22
pleia2I won't go near reddit, so if someone else wants to they are welcome to02:23
GridCubei don't understand reddit02:24
GridCubeit makes no friggin sense02:24
Unit193Man that site can be funnah. :D02:25
Unit193Not looked at any subs on there for a while though.02:26
NoskcajGridCube, It's one of the best (and if well used, best for promotion) websites. It is difficult to learn though02:27
Noskcajpleia2, I could try and contact the mods. I'm looking into a similar thing for kubuntu and lubuntu02:27
* skellat notes far too late that he outright abandoned reddit as he found little use for it in the end game as it was full of...nothing...03:46
=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash
brainwashochosi: regarding the greeter -> xfce transition, http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/tree/src/compositor.c#n80611:11
brainwashochosi: you can build xfwm4 with MONITOR_ROOT_PIXMAP defined11:12
brainwashochosi: I'll test it and report any drawbacks 11:12
brainwashthe xfce4-panel app menu is able to scale pixmap icon files properly (now), but the xfdesktop app menu still isn't12:17
brainwashit also does not display the missing-icon-file symbol12:18
brainwashstrnage inconsistency12:19
ochosiyeah, separate menus12:39
ochosibrainwash: i'm very interested to hear about that xfwm4 thingy12:40
brainwashochosi: I don't notice any change13:41
brainwashochosi: I even compiled it a second time after editing the source file directly13:43
ochosibrainwash: hm, right, well xfdesktop's maintainer is aware of the issue14:28
brainwashochosi: of what? the general issue?14:33
ochosithe slow startup of xfdesktop14:34
brainwashand the missing pixmap scaling?14:34
brainwashdid you talk to him/her?14:34
brainwash(you can test it with gcolor2 for example)14:36
ochosimissing pixmap scaling?14:39
ochosi(there's just been the first 4.11 release of the desktop today, btw)14:40
brainwashinstall gcolor2, right-click the desktop > app menu > graphics14:44
ochosithat menu is gone in 4.1114:46
ochosi(which is what i'm using atm)14:47
ochosiso you have to be more concrete with the pixmap scaling issue14:47
brainwashgone?!14:47
ochosiyeah, there's only the app-menu14:47
brainwashwhat I'm trying to tell you is, that xfdesktop is still affected by bug 106103714:48
ubottubug 1061037 in gdk-pixbuf (Ubuntu) "Using .xpm icons on desktop may draw huge icon" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/106103714:48
ochosiaha14:48
brainwashthe normal panel menu isn't anymore14:49
ochositrue14:49
brainwashI guess we simply ignore this :)14:50
ochosiwell xpm icons are very retro ;)14:50
ochosibut yeah, it should be fixed at some point14:50
ochosiideally for 4.1214:50
brainwashand only few apps ship a launcher with full path xpm icon specified in their .desktop file14:51
brainwashIDLE, gcolor2, gnome disk analyzer14:51
ochosiare there bugreports for those apps upstream?14:52
ochosi(or are all of them still maintained?)14:52
brainwashdon't fix the apps, fix the broken app menu :D14:55
brainwashwhich will be gone soon anyway :/14:55
ochosino, that app-menu is still there14:56
ochosithere were 2 variants in the 4.10 desktop-menu14:57
brainwashah, so 1 menu implementation remains14:58
brainwashfor both14:58
ochosione that was solely for apps and one that had some desktop-specific stuff14:58
ochosinow there's only the one for apps14:58
ochosiat least as far as i can say14:58
brainwashochosi: should I file the bug report about the non smooth greeter -> desktop transition against xfwm4, xfdesktop, xfce4-session or xubuntu-meta?15:16
ochosii'm not sure :}15:17
Pwnnait must be said15:26
Pwnnaubuntu 13.10 is stil lreally unstable :P15:26
brainwashPwnna: what exactly is unstable?15:50
Pwnnaeverything15:51
elfynope15:51
elfynot so here15:51
Pwnnacannot go to sleep. if i play video games for a while (couple minutes), my computer will slow down and frame rate drops by about 60%. 15:51
Pwnnano reason either, there's no overheating and such15:51
elfyI assume you've posted bugs where appropriate15:52
Pwnnanot a lot of logs. the only thing i can see is this: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53571 but that's related to lock up15:52
ubottubugzilla.kernel.org bug 53571 in Video(DRI - Intel) "[fdo:54226] stale bcs->rcs semaphore" [Normal,New]15:52
Pwnnaelfy: i don't have logs..15:52
Pwnnalike. nothing in the logs15:52
Pwnnabluetooth mouse does not reconnect like it did in 13.0415:53
elfyubuntu-bug blueman15:53
Pwnnabut i don't have logs.. so like it's like saying.  hey my bluetooth requires me to manually reconnect sometimes, not all the time. also i don't have logs15:54
Pwnnain 13.04 it worked! 15:54
Pwnnathat kinda bug report is not really useful :315:54
elfyubuntu-bug blueman15:54
elfyand saying 'everything is unstable' is useful?15:55
Pwnnait's not15:55
Pwnnai was hoping someone can help me get logs15:55
Pwnnathe graphics/processing issue is the critical one15:55
Pwnnabut i can't get any logs15:55
Pwnnai can reproduce everytime15:56
elfythen report it - use ubuntu-bug and it'll grab what it needs afaik - then watch the bug and see if anything else is required15:58
Pwnnawell for the graphics one idk what the component maybe16:03
Pwnnait might be the kernel, mesa, idk16:03
brainwashthere are plenty of log files located in /var/log16:03
Pwnnanothing relating to the grapics issue.16:03
Pwnnaother than that bug that i found upstream, but that one is a) relating to lockups (which it did on my system) and b) present for a long time, but didn't show before. so i doubt that whatever is happening now is related to that..?16:04
elfyPwnna: so what grpahics card is it 16:06
Pwnnahappens on both my intel HD 3000 and the nvidia card16:06
Pwnnai think that one is quadro 420016:07
elfyso how long has this been going on then with saucy?16:07
Pwnnaever since i upgraded to it16:07
elfyright 16:07
elfyI'm not psychic enough to be able to guess when that was16:08
Pwnnaoh. 4 days ago16:08
brainwashcan you still boot one of the raring kernels or are they gone already?16:08
Pwnnai see stack traces... probably relating to the sleep issue16:08
Pwnnabrainwash: gone16:08
brainwashnot sure, if this is the right channel for this kind of issue16:10
brainwashdoes not seem to be xubuntu specific16:10
brainwashdid you already ask in #ubuntu+1?16:11
elfyPwnna: you might well find someone who can help in #ubuntu+116:11
Pwnnayeah16:12
Pwnnamaybe16:12
brainwashNotice(queuebot): Unapproved: rejected libxfce4ui [sync] (saucy-proposed) [4.10.0-4]16:44
elfysaw that ... 16:48
elfybrainwash: confirmed thge xfwm4 bug16:50
ochosiwhat xfwm4 bug?16:51
brainwashmore like a wishlist thingy16:51
elfythe one you two were talking about earlier - "If the built-in compositor is enabled, xfwm4 will draw a plain grey background over the lightdm greeter background on session login"16:51
brainwashbug 123280416:52
ubottubug 1232804 in xfwm4 (Ubuntu) "[compositing] improve login greeter -> desktop transition" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/123280416:52
ochosiah ok16:53
ochosiyeah, as i said, not sure what component this bug should actually be filed against16:54
brainwashdid some more code hacking, but no success so far16:54
ochosihave you tried enabling the splash-screen?16:54
ochosii mean the xfce-splash-screen16:54
brainwashno, isn't that some ancient stuff?16:54
brainwashand could it help?16:55
ochosiwell, it might still help to create a custom splash-screen that shows the user's wallpaper16:55
ochosifor me it's hard to test anyway, the ssd makes the session load very quickly, so i don't see your bug16:55
brainwashcompositing enabled?16:56
ochosiyup16:56
ochosii also use autologin16:56
ochosithat might contribute16:56
brainwashyea16:56
brainwashit's just an idea for the next milestone16:58
elfymaybe tag it brainwash 16:59
elfythough it might be useful to sort out an official xubuntu tag of some sort16:59
brainwashdon't know how16:59
brainwashor which tag17:00
elfyno idea how to create a new one - we were talking about this the other day 17:02
elfyor at least someone and me was lol17:02
skellatWe got libxfce4ui rejected in queue.  Somebody may need to pop over to #ubuntu-release to discuss that.17:03
ochosiwhat version of libxfce4ui is that and why was it uploaded?17:13
ochosiconnected to a bugreport?17:13
ochosibrainwash: just to add that, xfwm4 is not currently in active development17:13
ochosiat least not really17:13
brainwashbug 122873117:15
ubottubug 1228731 in libxfce4ui (Ubuntu) "[FFe] Sync libxfce4ui 4.10.0-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/122873117:15
elfyochosi:  connected with bug 1055407 and bug 119874617:15
ubottubug 346386 in apt (Ubuntu Precise) "duplicate for #1055407 [MASTER] Update fails with invalid package files with "Encountered a section with no Package: header"" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/34638617:15
ubottubug 1198746 in libxfce4ui (Ubuntu) "Drop /usr/share/xfce4/vendorinfo" [Low,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/119874617:15
elfybug 1054407 17:16
ubottubug 1054407 in xfce4-screenshooter (Ubuntu) "xfhelp4 is not installed" [Low,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/105440717:16
elfyI mean :)17:16
ochosiah right17:16
ochosixfhelp stuff17:16
elfyyup17:16
Unit193xnox: Howdy.  Do you know where I should go for questions with ubiquiry and casper?19:41
Noskcajhey mr_pouit 20:12
mr_pouithey Noskcaj 20:19
Noskcajxfwm4 just got merged and libxfce4ui will be synced very soon20:20
xnoxUnit193: #ubuntu-installer22:05
brainwashany idea, how I could debug bug 1206739 ?22:32
ubottubug 1206739 in xfce4-terminal (Ubuntu) "xfce4-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV in magazine_chain_pop_head()" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/120673922:32
Noskcajbrainwash, install the -dev and -dbg packages for it if they exist, then run it from a terminal (with debug enabled, if possible). That's at least where to start22:36
brainwashsadly no debug mode available, and running it from another terminal window will instantly crash both when the bug gets triggered22:38
brainwashrunning it from a different terminal app will freeze the session (partially)22:39
Noskcajbrainwash, maybe add "| tee FILENAME" at the end to get the logs (where FILENAME is whatever you want), but i assume the logs get recorded anyway22:40
brainwashwell, actually it does freeze the session completely, a working cursor does not help that much :)22:40
brainwashtee redirects only stdout22:42
brainwashI'll try it22:42
ochosibrainwash: i think the most effective thing you can do is file a bug upstream23:00
ochosior check whether there's already one23:00
ochosiand as soon as NSchermer is around again, you can ask him whether he can reproduce it23:01
ochosibut it's possibly ubuntu-specific23:01
brainwashmaybe it needs to be rebuilt against a recent version of glib23:02
brainwashI want to improve my debugging skills... but thus particular bug is strange23:03
brainwashthis23:03
brainwashochosi: are there any Xfce (core) developers which are also members of the Xubuntu team?23:11
ochosinot really23:17
ochosibluesabre, mr_pouit and me contributed a bit to the display settings23:17
ochosibut at the moment there aren't even that many core devs of xfce23:18
brainwashok :/23:22
brainwashI guess they could need some man power for the gtk3 transition23:22
brainwashand wayland support23:23
ochosiindeed23:24
ochosifeel free to start contributing!23:24
ochosior even start to motivate/recruit others ;)23:25
brainwashI'm trying to get started, but the source code seems be quite complex and it's not easy to understand what's going on :)23:26
brainwashand the whole api mess23:27
brainwashhundreds of different apis23:27
ochositrying to fix bugs is always a good start23:30
