[02:47] I'm about to ask a question that might make some of you facepalm.. but I'll ask it anyway. Is there a lubuntu equivalent of "my computer" like in windows? [02:49] In Pcmanfm, Go > My Computer ? [05:02] Unit193, thank you, I didn't know where to look. [05:04] Sure. === Soul-Sing is now known as Evil-Soul-Sing [06:52] hello is anybody on? [06:54] i am having extreme issues with lubuntu and connecting to my wireless network [06:54] it keeps prompting me for the password i have taken every measure to ensure it is correct, complaining that it is incorrect [06:55] i have tried it on two different routers and it does not work [06:55] the complaining part= password issue? [06:55] yes [06:55] and now the installer just failed, grub-2 failed to install [06:55] grub2 install/updates goes via sudo [06:56] yes, but i am installing lubuntu as a whole [06:56] do you have-su enabled? [06:56] im on the live CD [06:56] ok [06:56] So i would assume it would be [06:56] Might want to check the CD for defects. During initial boot there will be an option for it. [06:57] sudo indeed not su [06:57] Sadly, there were no errors found already [06:57] it happened with xubuntu too [06:58] which leads me to believe there is some sort of problem with my system [06:58] keyboard/azerty etc, issue? [06:58] not any keyboard issues [06:58] if anything a mouse issue [06:58] Selecting the correct auth type I'd assume? No logs in /var/log/? [06:59] is it a tailless mouse :) [06:59] (well, not really the mouse, but i cannot click anything inside a window spawned from a parent window.. i have to use tab to navigate [06:59] And does this device connect from another operating system? [06:59] and no, its wired. what do you mean connect from another operating system? [07:00] the oddest part of it all, is that i can connect to my cell phone's wireless tethering [07:00] remote? [07:00] no, its physically connected to the computer i am working with [07:01] ok thx, I really don't know, you could check auth.logs...but.. [07:02] my main concern (aside from the wifi issue) is that i can not alter values with my mouse, only with tab and my keyboard [07:03] the mouse works fine, and lubuntu recognizes it [07:03] but there is some kind of issue with the actual window [07:03] i caught a glimpse of an error when i was using gparted once [07:06] x/windows and passwd problems doesn't ring a bell here. i am sorry...:/ [07:06] very sorry indeed [07:07] not a problem [07:10] Wait, wired? 0_o [12:41] Unit193: hi, are you here? [12:43] Unit193: I noticed that there is a problem with startlubuntu . Cuz basically my other accounts that work fine will not work if I do Ctrl+Alt+F1, log into one of them and then do startlubuntu. I get the same error message cannot open display. But these accounts work fine if i log into them normally. So the problem is startlubuntu doesnt work for some reason. [12:46] Unit193: (assuming that you remember me from yesterday....) [12:46] bioterror: are you around? [13:38] hi, I put lubuntu 13.04 on an old used laptop I bought. I want to use wireless Internet, but how do I find out if the laptop is even able to do that? [17:59] hello to everybody [18:00] i need an information: [18:00] how can i install codec packages to read prpriety dvd? [18:00] or original dvd...? [18:00] !dvd [18:00] Ubuntu's default installation and repositories do not include packages needed to play commercial DVDs for legal reasons. For information on adding them, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs | For information on the legalities involved, see the "DVD" section of https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FreeFormats [18:01] tank u so much [18:10] k now i must go ..night [20:08] http://paste.openstack.org/show/47864 [20:10] On an installed raring system I found a mention of this being overwritten on install which doesn't seem to make sense [20:10] is this a bug? [20:15] looks like a default config file for open box which is created when you install a system. [20:16] you can over ride this by taking a copy to ~home and editing it. that version will not be over written on an update to saucy. [20:17] but, I'm no expert on openbox! [20:19] it was in my home directory [20:21] Then ignore the warning and carry on, simple. [20:35] ok [22:10] Guys, I think I broke something [22:11] When I try to log into to my account from the login screen, it seems to start loading, then puts me back to the Display Manager [22:11] I am on guest account now [22:12] also logging in from from a TTY works [22:12] CanuckTux: If you run "ls -al" do you see a file called .Xauthority that is owned by root? [22:15] yes [22:15] it is is both the guest and admin home directory [22:16] should I touch it? [22:17] I stated X from TTY and it booted to default environment [22:19] * Canucktux2 has X running on account :D [22:19] now to get it working from the LM... [22:32] so bit of a hack, but atleast I can still login to something graphical [22:37] Canucktux2: Sorry I forgot I was helping... You need to run "sudo chown yourusername: ~/.Xauthority" [22:38] Canucktux2: And in future if you need to run a graphical application with elevated privileges from the command line, use gksu, not sudo [22:38] !gksu [22:38] If you need to run graphical applications as root, use « gksudo », as it will set up the environment more appropriately. Never just use "sudo"! (See http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo to know why)
