TiZ | Hello. I heard that 13.10 supported optimus in a way different from bumblebee. I've been unhappy with my card's performance under optirun... it's only barely better than the integrated! So I installed Xubuntu 13.10's beta to try it out, and it just... doesn't work. It just hangs at the splash screen and I never see lightdm. What do I have to do to enable the new prime support? | 01:15 |

pvh_sa | hey there, i see the new system settings has landed, but for now lacking a keyboard settings component. is everyone else seeing that? i presume keyboard settings is still coming? and how does one move "back" in settings? | 05:46 |
TJ- | Has the new udev (204) broken the behaviour of 70-persistent-net.rules renaming? On a 13.10 server udev generated the file as expected, I edited it to shuffle the names around, but on boot it fails to rename the interfaces leading to no connectivity | 08:17 |
elmargol | Finding a decent mirror for italy is somehow difficult | 08:37 |
OveRisberg | I am not able to do a network installation of 13.10 on a laptop... it hangs on "ip link set wlan up" and I get "INFO: task ip:1930 blocked for more than 120 seconds." in dmesg... http://pastebin.com/bQ200dfy | 09:09 |
OveRisberg | If I remove the wlan card from the laptop the installation works as expected. | 09:10 |
OveRisberg | How should I report this? | 09:10 |
TJ- | You're missing a firmware file, as per that log file: "ieee80211 phy0: brcmsmac: fail to load firmware brcm/bcm43xx-0.fw" | 09:11 |
TJ- | broadcom devices need their firmware 'cutting' from other binaries, often from the Windows drivers. | 09:12 |
OveRisberg | I am not using wlan for installation... | 09:12 |
OveRisberg | On 13.04 I get a question about this and after answer no to the question it just continues. | 09:12 |
Guest21795 | qtcreator can't run gdb since last update. any known solution? | 09:17 |

OveRisberg | I patched line 98 in /bin/ethdetect in the initrd so it does not return wlan0 and now I can do a network installation of Ubuntu 13.10 ... This is just an ugly workaround until we can find the real problem. | 14:08 |
kRush | installed xubuntu b2 yesterdays, power manager informs me that 'hibernate and suspend operations are not supported' but I can suspend the machine manually just fine, what's up with that? | 16:18 |
brainwash | kRush: the beta images and the daily one don't ship with pm-utils | 16:25 |

odium | hello. | 19:40 |
Rory | Hello odium . Could you please put the contents of the file "/etc/apt/sources.list" onto http://paste.ubuntu.com | 19:41 |
odium | So, I am trying to set the proper governor for my AMD A10-6800 socket FM2 | 19:41 |
Rory | One step ahead | 19:41 |
odium | sure, one second | 19:42 |
odium | rory, http://paste.ubuntu.com/6193683/ | 19:43 |
Rory | Thanks odium . Can you uncomment the line that says "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu saucy partner" (by removing the #) and then save it? | 19:44 |
Rory | odium: Then run "sudo apt-get update" and try again | 19:44 |
odium | okay, I finally ran apt-get update | 19:48 |
odium | sorry for the delay | 19:48 |
BluesKaj | update doesn't do anything unless you run upgrade as well | 19:50 |
odium | Rory: apt-cache search powernowd doesn't yield anything still. | 19:51 |
Rory | !info powernowd | 19:51 |
ubottu | Package powernowd does not exist in saucy | 19:51 |
Rory | THat'll be why then :P | 19:51 |
odium | hmm, but I want to change my regulator | 19:51 |
odium | my governor, I meant. | 19:52 |
odium | what am I looking at here? https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/saucy/powernowd/saucy | 19:55 |
Rory | odium: some source code | 20:02 |
odium | well i have the sources in /usr/src I guess I better get to it. | 20:06 |
Ponch0 | Citizens! I think i finally figured out my Ubuntu issue! That i've had since my adoption of Ubuntu in December of 2012! How do I read up on "txpower", options available with it, and to make the changes permanent? | 20:08 |
genii | Ponch0: man iwconfig for how to apply txpower option of that command. Once you have that figured out, put the command in /etc/rc.local | 20:13 |
Ponch0 | Thanks so much genii: that's going in my gedit. | 20:17 |
odium | aw, I can't seem to run make menuconfig because ncurses-devel can't be installed. | 20:20 |
odium | oh, if powernow_k8 is compiled into my kernel, then that isn't the problem. | 20:22 |

jack--- | saucy = great prerelease | 23:23 |
k1l | too bad xmir didnt make it | 23:24 |
jack--- | xmir? | 23:24 |
jack--- | oh, new xorg alternative? cool | 23:26 |
k1l | a x compatibility layer for the new MIR display server | 23:26 |
jack--- | i want it, as soon as it's usable :P | 23:26 |
ikonia | you want something you didn't know about ? | 23:36 |
k1l | its new? and shiny? i want it! :) | 23:37 |
ikonia | ^ = fail | 23:38 |
ikonia | (although I know you jest) | 23:39 |
jack--- | :P | 23:40 |
brainwash | what is the benefit of adding an extra layer? it's still xorg, just on top of mir | 23:41 |
k1l | brainwash: and you need something that glues xorg into mir. and that is xmir | 23:42 |
brainwash | right, but mir isn't ready yet, so why run xmir instead of plain X? | 23:47 |
Daekdroom | brainwash, Mir is ready. Way more ready than XMir | 23:51 |
Daekdroom | But nothing is ready for Mir. | 23:51 |
Daekdroom | (it doesn't matter, X/Mir isn't getting used by default in 13.10) | 23:51 |
jack--- | just downloading linuxmint 15 | 23:52 |
jack--- | let's see how it compares to saucy | 23:53 |
