=== Rory is now known as [SKT]_RORY [03:39] Anyone notice that every FM takes ages to start sometimes? pcmanfv, nemo, thunar, dolphin... doesn't matter which, sometimes it takes 10-40 seconds to start, even if it previously was instant. [08:20] Is anyone using udev rules to (try to) rename network interfaces, if so, are those rules doing anything (/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules") ? [08:20] TJ-: not done it on 13.10 - but certainly done it before as you describe [08:21] is it not working in 13.10 - or not working in general [08:22] It's looking that way, bug #1235162 [08:22] bug 1235162 in systemd (Ubuntu) "Persistent net names via /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules " [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1235162 [08:22] I first noticed it yesterday morning whilst configuring a server; I had to fix a couple of other bugs (ifupdown and dhclient) but I've now returned to it. [08:24] a udevadm trigger + udevadm monitor is showing that the post-rule-processing events emitted by udev do not honour the rules file (/etc/udev./rules.d/70-persistent.net.rules) whereas they have in previous versions. I wonder if this is due to the post version-174 and systemd integration that we've not fully altered the systemd defaults back to the old behaviour [08:24] I'm collecting more information for that bug report now; hopefully I can prove the rules files are being accessed which would indicate they are ignored. [08:38] Bug updated === brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [10:46] when i type "uname -m" it tells i686 .. is the processor 64 bit or that the installed ubuntu os is 64 bit? [10:48] hp_: none of them. Well, the first part is a "might". [10:48] i686 is pentium pro or later. [10:50] so how to make sure my processor is 32 or 64 bit? [10:50] you have to look in /proc/cpuinfo [10:51] hp@hp:~$ sudo /proc/cpuinfo [10:51] sudo: /proc/cpuinfo: command not found [10:52] cat /proc/cpuinfo [10:52] plz i need site to paste the output text for you [10:53] www.pastebin.org [10:55] SwedeMike: http://pastebin.com/TvuVMRjM [10:56] http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-how-to-find-if-processor-is-64-bit-or-not/ [10:57] SwedeMike:thanks [11:10] 'Morning all [11:12] Hey BK [11:17] Afternoon :p [11:20] penguin42: You asked last week about the GRUB encryption... pleased to report its fully working BIOS > LUKS-GRUB > LUKS_VG > rootfs with separate pass-phrases and key-files [11:21] TJ-: Oh impressive! [11:22] hi p42 [11:23] You can do it via the Ubuntu installer (once the bug-fix for GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTDISK in place of GRUB_CRYPTDISK_ENABLE in /etc/default/grub is released) but that buts /boot and the root-fs in the same LUKS volume. I've separate /boot/ from that so compromising that doesn't compromise the more important bits [11:24] s/that buts/that puts/ [12:18] given ubuntu 13.10 is going to be using xmir and lightdm will ubuntu 13.10 support multiseat configurations? [12:23] aanderse: My understanding is that xmir is no longer the default config for 13.10 [12:23] penguin42: ah, i haven't used ubuntu for a number of years and i guess i haven't been following the news as closely as i should have then... [12:23] oops :) [12:24] ok let me state my question more generally then... [12:24] will ubuntu 13.10 support multiseat configurations? [12:24] aanderse: I think the decision only happened a few days ago [12:24] * penguin42 has never done multiseat [12:25] xedgers just uploaded the nvidia 331 driver to the ppa , wish me luck [12:25] aanderse: think it allready do you may have to install some package and tweak some configs. [12:26] oz0ne: yeah, i am running a multiseat computer with 2 terminals using kde right now [12:26] the kdm configuration isn't too bad [12:26] i know i'd have to configure lightdm to work with it... [12:26] but if ubuntu is still using x then that makes it easier [12:29] ahh yeah, iforgot about that.. [12:31] i have thought of setting up multiseat but have been to lazy and just used virtual machines and passed pointer\usb devices direct to it, yeah req. some more resurces, but it works : p [12:31] ok, good to hear [12:32] thanks for the help :) [12:32] aanderse: don't get me wrong, my setup works, not the multiseat, that i havn't tested : p [12:36] aanderse: feel free to test if you can get multiseat working easy on saucy, with no virt\emu and feel free to tell me : ) [12:36] if i try it will do [12:36] ty [12:36] nvidia 331 driver successfully installed [12:37] oz0ne: big move though... the mrs doesn't like when i mess with her computer ;-) [12:37] move from kde to unity won't go unnoticed :p [12:38] bad move [12:40] hehe, maybe a cup of tea and a chocolate can help the change to go slightly less painfull : p [12:42] aanderse, why the move to unity [12:42] ? [12:42] BluesKaj: haven't decided on it yet, contemplating it [12:42] but [12:42] contemplating it because of ubuntu phone [12:42] i like where they're going with that [12:42] ok [12:43] the idea of one piece of software for both my phone and my desktop... [12:43] very appealing to me [12:45] a phone is just a phone in my life , i don't need an internet chain attached to me since I'm no longer in the workaday world [12:45] yeah, and the possibility to just dock it, whenever that happens, one pice of hardware and software.. [12:46] i like kde interface a bit more than unity but unity seems pretty good and i put more value on having my phone and desktop being the same thing [13:42] Hi all.. I was using ubuntu 12.04 + win 7 till date. Now i wants to re-install both os. Which Ubuntu version to select ? Should i install 13.04 or 13.10 ? How much stable is 13,10 beta ? [13:44] its quite stable but get alot of updates in this days. so if you need to ask how stable it is i will always advise to stay with the stable releases and upgrade to the new one after its released [13:44] dixoncx, stability has a lot to do with your hardware , especially graphics [13:51] BluesKaj: my hardware is laptop; intel hd 3000 [13:52] dixoncx, I haven't heard of any peoblems with intel graphics on 131.0 [13:52] err 13.10 :) [13:53] 13.04 vs 13.10 beta : which will be better choice considering 13.10 will release this month ? [13:54] dixoncx: didnt i just answer that question? [13:54] dixoncx, we can't predict accurately , you'll have to find out for yourself [13:54] you wont get a guarranty from anyone in here to install a beta release. either you think you can handle that or you sould stay with the final releases. thats it [13:56] k1l_: sorry, i missed your answer.. [13:56] Ok, thanks to all.. will try 13.10 [13:57] dixoncx, if you adventurous and a home user then go for it , if you're in a poruction situation , "on the job" then wait til the final release is at least 1 month old [13:57] production rather [13:57] yep, got it.. [13:57] its my main laptop.. will try 13.10 itself [14:35] *sigh* [14:57] I have upgraded my xubuntu installation from 13.04 to 13.10 and there is just one thing that I can't seem to fix, I can't reboot/shutdown my laptop from ´update-manager´, Action Buttons or Lightdm? Have anyone got a tip what I should check? [15:37] torstehu, update manager ? [15:50] Hello all :) [15:51] I have a question for you guyz concerning the /etc/update-motd.d on the 13.10 [15:52] did you notice it dosnt update the motd at each login/session ? [16:02] or maybe I am seeing that wrong or something... ? :) [16:08] For example : I login now and It's written "System information as of Sat Oct 5 09:03:00 CEST 2013" => It's actually 18:07 my time xD [16:31] my Bluetooth recently stopped detecting upon boot [16:31] anyone familiar with iwlwifi? [16:31] and newer combo ac/bluetooth adapters === em is now known as clickgay === clickgay is now known as em [17:46] I'm wondering if ubuntu 13.10 has a program that will find and delete duplicate files on my hard drive... [17:47] dmobley88: There are several programs you can install for doing so. [17:48] what would work best for videos that aren't exactly in the same folder, nor have the same file name, but would keep the files in the videos folder, deleting the others [17:48] dmobley88: well how would you define what to delete? [17:48] dmobley88: fslint or fdupes [17:49] removing a file from the hard drive completely, while keeping the origonal files. [17:49] is there a gtk package with either? [18:37] torstehu: try asking in #xubuntu-devel [18:48] My computer just ate an entire bag of sugar. [18:55] dmobley88: It's running like treacle? [18:56] no, it seems happy... [18:56] dmobley88: Ignore set. Tired of your trolling. === dmobley88 is now known as Anonynimity [20:46] Anonynimity: De-dupe: use the ZFS file-system with "zfs set dedup=on [pool or filesystem]" [21:18] BluesKaj: your comment to dixoncx about waiting until the final release is 1 month old, before using it in production.... I guess that means I'm absolutely insane. :) [21:32] what TJ? [21:33] Anonynimity: You were asking earlier about how to detect and delete duplicate files. [21:33] oh, yes, [21:33] I used some program [21:34] fdupes [21:35] now I'm using fslint
