BoomerBiletigervnc on kubuntu?05:48
skreech__!vnc05:48
ubottuVNC is a protocol for remote desktop. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VNCOverSSH describes how to use it securely.  It works best over fast connections, otherwise look at !FreeNX05:48
skreech__!info tigervnc05:48
ubottuPackage tigervnc does not exist in raring05:48
skreech__aww05:48
BoomerBileyeah that sucks... tightvnc is old and tigervnc is the future of tightvnc (based on the never released tightvnc 4)05:49
skreech__It used to be there...05:50
BoomerBilei thought so too05:52
BoomerBilei found some old websites on google05:52
BoomerBileguess i could build it from source easy enough...05:53
skreech__http://winswitch.org/downloads/debian-repository.html?dist_select=raring05:53
skreech__Well if you can do that go ahead :)05:54
skreech__No PPA either that I can see05:54
BoomerBileyeah i can, no sweat... i hate going out of tree though...05:57
BoomerBilextightvncviewer is barfing on me for full screen mode05:57
skreech__Yeah that's a pain at times if you aren't careful05:57
BoomerBileand no file transfers05:58
BoomerBilestrange06:01
BoomerBilei just downloaded the package and whoops06:01
BoomerBileit's not source code and it installed into /opt06:02
BoomerBilemight just work06:02
skreech__just add that path into your path06:08
skreech__or symlink it into your path06:08
borov_hi everybody! may be somebody could help me ... how can i activate nvidia-319 driver in xorg. nvidia-xconfig created xorg.conf, but after reboot nvidia driver didn't actevated.06:40
skreech__!nvidia06:41
ubottuFor Ati/NVidia/Matrox video cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VideoDriverHowto06:41
zsatox!apache06:41
ubottuLAMP is an acronym for Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP. However, the term is often used for setups using alternative but different software, such as Perl or Python instead of PHP, and Postgres instead of MySQL. For help with setting up LAMP on Ubuntu, see  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ApacheMySQLPHP - See also the Server CD installation process.06:41
skreech__what does the output of lsmod say?06:41
zsatoxanyone good with apache?06:47
skreech__zsatox: Did you try #apache ?06:47
zsatoxnope, i'll try it. thanks06:48
skreech__Sure06:48
skreech__It'll redirect you06:48
zsatoxseems dead :(06:50
skreech__What's the question?07:07
skreech__borov_: progress?07:07
borov_i'm at work now. I'll see lsmod after an hour.07:09
zsatoxwell i was curious about apache2 2.2.22 vs httpd 2.4.6. it seems like when i installed 2.4.6, it uses /usr/local/apache2 instead of /etc/apache207:12
zsatoxalso when i try to use apachectl, it says: The program 'apachectl' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install apache2.2-common07:13
FloodBotK1!netsplit07:17
ubottunetsplit is when two IRC servers of the same network (like freenode) disconnect from each other, so users on one server stop seeing users on the other. If this is happening now, just relax and enjoy the show. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netsplit07:17
skreech__zsatox: That's probably more to do with packaging than anythign else07:44

acooperHello.  I installed kubuntu 13.04 yesterday on my Acer Aspire 7745G i7 laptop.  Everything seemed to be going fine.  Today the Muon Software center crashes every time I start it.  Is this a common thing and can someone point me in the right direction to fix it?13:24
acooperAlso, I'm very familiar with Ubuntu.  I've just moved from the Unity desktop to KDE, so sending me to a command line won't freak me out or anything.13:26
sbivolacooper: try launching 'muon' from Konsole, maybe it will tell you the cause of the crash13:28
acooperOkay, the package manager doesn't seem to be crashing like the software center.  Although, Konsole is showing the following error a lot ""/var/tmp/kdecache-acooper" is owned by uid 1001 instead of uid 0.13:31
acooper"13:31
=== soul is now known as Guest79003
acooperHmmmm...  from reading the forums it looks like using sudo instead of kdesu is a no-no.  I didn't realize that.  Heh.13:36
sbivolremoving "/var/tmp/kdecache-acooper" and rebooting should help. do not run muon with *sudo, t will ask for your password when needed13:39
sbivol*it13:39
acooperI didn't run muon with sudo but I did run dpkg and apt-get with sudo.13:40
acooperI ran muon from the menu.13:40
acooperThanks, sbivol.13:40

an1hey. im having trouble saving aliases. I do have these lines: http://hilltopyodeler.wikispaces.com/Bash-Aliases  in my .bashrc and a .bash_aliases with a couple of aliases such as alias h='heroku'18:03
an1. When I type alias h='heroku' in my command line, the alias gets created till i restart konsole. Any idea where im going wrong?18:03
lordievaderan1: What does the command "alias" output?18:09
an1alias rvm-restart='rvm_reload_flag=1 source '\''/home/anirudh/.rvm/scripts/rvm'\'''18:10
an1which isnt in my .bash_aliases18:10
an1^ @lordievader18:11
lordievaderan1: The way I have it in my zshrc file is this: source /home/lordievader/.alias18:12
an1@lordievader are zshrc and bashrc similar?18:14
lordievaderan1: Yes.18:14
an1so should i try just typing source /home/an1/.bash_aliases in my bashrc?18:15
lordievaderan1: It's worth a shot, I'd say.18:16
an1alias still the same18:28
lordievaderWhat happens when you run the command in the terminal?18:30
an1the aliases in .bashrc?18:30
an1command not found18:30
lordievaderan1: This command: source /home/an1/.bash_aliases18:33
an1nothing printed18:34
an1but the aliases work18:34
lordievaderan1: Right, an1 Then this leads me to believe that the bashrc file is not read everytime you start the konsole.18:39
an1oh. how do i get it to be read?18:40
lordievaderan1: Did you ever reboot when you added the line to your aliases?18:40
blender82salut18:46

Maceris there a reason my audio isn't working?21:27
Macerall i have available is a dummy audio device21:28
Macer:-/21:28
Letalishave you made any changes to the system recently?21:33
Maceryeah. i installed it21:34
Macerheh21:34
Macernothing serious. it is an intel_hda chipset which i'm sure is just some generic ac97 stuff21:34
Macerthis is a fresh install and it isn't working21:34
Letalisso you just installed kubuntu and all it shows is the dummy device?21:34
Maceryes21:34
Letalisyeah its probably ac97 more than likely but the weird part is why it didnt just detect it21:35
Macerand kde is also only showing just the dummy device21:35
Maceryou're telling me21:35
Macerworked fine in 12.04 when i ran that heh21:35
Letalisany other sound devices that may interfere on the system?21:35
Macerno. i'm pretty sure the analog and digital audio is done through only the onboard chipset21:36
Maceri guess it has an hdmi out21:36
Macerbut that never seemed to cause any problems before21:36
Macer[   40.876348] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffff8801b3a8bfe021:36
Macerhm21:36
Macermaybe that has something to do with it?21:36
Macer[   40.893151]  [<ffffffffa0417186>] snd_hda_codec_configure+0x146/0x440 [snd_hda_codec]21:37
Macerseriously?21:37
Letalisdmesg when it probes the hardware right at startup would tell you right away whether linux is seeing the sound system21:37
Letalisgranted, it will tell you in the most overly complicated way possible, but nonetheless itll say it.21:38
Letalislol21:38
Macerheh21:38
Maceri am installing system updates now21:38
Macermaybe it is a bug with the install kernel21:38
Maceri'm sure the one that comes on the iso is rather old21:38
Macerthere are quite a few weird problems. like the system not restarting21:39
Macerit just hangs when it is supposed to restart21:39
Letalisits a possibility. if it still acts up id check the syslogs first to make sure linux is detecting it like its supposed to, then go from there.21:39
Letalismight be a bad installer or something21:39
Maceryea. i looked at dmesg and it looks like a panic during modprobe21:39
Macernot sure tho.. will have to look at it more later21:40
Macerdhcp also seems to not work21:42
Macerwow. i don't remember kubuntu being this unstable. heh. and i just had it on this very same laptop albeit an older version21:42
Maceri guess sometimes newer isn't better heh21:42

Letalisi think it might be an issue with the installer honestly, 13.04 has worked great since i put it on here.21:51
Letalisthe only problems ive had with it were with things installed from ppas and those usually are at your own risk21:52
Maceromg are you kidding me?22:01
Maceri installed the updates22:01
Macerand now i can't login as root or the default user22:01
Macerauthentication failure22:01
Macerprobably some pam issue22:02
Macerbut now i can't fix it because i can't login as root... or the default user22:02
MacerSOUND WORKS THO22:02
Macerand it's an encrypted lvm so i don't even know how i would mount that with a recovery disc in order to repair it22:02
Maceri'm logged in as guest now22:02
Macerah ok. i managed to login from a console as the user then use passwd22:05
