R0b0t1Hi, I have a dualscreen setup, and I have like, two nested desktops04:55
R0b0t1If I try to set background, the screens will set their backgrounds, but there is a middle portion which seems to be another desktop04:56
R0b0t1it actually behaves differently, as in, if I set show menus provided by WM04:56

semitoneshello!15:12
semitoneswhenever i login, I get a "system policy prevents changing wireless networks" message or similar. What can I do to login to wifi networks without having to put in my password?15:12
holsteinsemitones: well, you can always just authenticate each time.. but let me find the link i used..15:13
semitonesholstein, thanks! It's more a ease-of-use improvement... no other OS I use asks for a password before connecting to wifi15:14
holsteinwell, its no "improvement" at all.. its a change15:16
holsteinsemitones: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6214179/ is what i did, though, i cant find my original source15:16
semitonesit makes it easier for me to use, so I consider it an improvement. But there are cases where it might be better to ask the password before connecting to wifi, so I see what you mean, i think?15:18
holsteinsemitones: consider it what you like, but its no improvement, friend.. its a preference15:20
holsteinsemitones: the above change is the way i chagne that.. i suggest to the developers of a few distros about how to change that, and why i think its more "proper".. but, its no improvment.. its a change15:20
holsteinsemitones: i just did it on this machine, because i hadnt gotten around to changing it yet :)15:21
semitoneslol :) yeah that's true. It's just a change, but it's what works best for me.15:23
andreiiarHello. I fire this in one go. I want a portable lubuntu on my usb stick 16GB. Problem is persistence is max 4gb with the install tools. I tried to install normally but I had problems switching from my laptop to a normal screen monitor. I fixed the resolution problem but it started not working on other computers after 2 days. Is there some script to detect my hardware at every boot like persitence15:49
andreiiarinstalls does?15:49
phillwandreiiar: you could partition up the 8 GB as ext4 and then have it automounted via fstab and call it "docs" or "my stuff" to store all 'your stuff' in ?17:05

melodiephillw ok, "parted -l" man:21:52
melodie      -l, --list21:52
melodie              lists partition layout on all block devices21:52
melodieI see21:52
melodieof course it's only a block device21:53
phillwso, it is a phantom bug, parted is doing exactly as it should.21:53
phillwit could never partition up a zram area!21:53

mappshi guys - im trying to booty off a live cd on an old machine..tried lubuntu so far and it just goes to a command prompt..i guess some issue with the gfx drivers?23:46
Unit193Try adding nomodeset to the boot options.23:46
Unit193!nomodeset23:46
ubottuA common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter23:46
mappsaha23:47
mappsThanks pal23:47
Unit193Sure.23:48
mappsi dont get a black screen but it goes to command could be same?23:48
mappsdamn annoying23:48
Unit193You should try running  startlubuntu  there, or  sudo service lightdm start23:48
mappsone more thing..it wouldnt make a difference using lubuntu or xubuntu/ubuntu would it? i assume all would be same due to gfx issue23:48
mappsaha will try everything..thanks23:48
mappsah just stops on a blinking cursor afters service lightdm start23:58
