Ponch0Hey guys anyone here i've been beggin the regulars for help all day with the setup of my internet00:30
Ponch0none of my internet works on my laptop00:30
Ponch0and i'm desperate like a monkey for a banana00:30
Ponch0um how come when I try to install a drive I get "can't read private key" error?04:15
Ponch0driver04:15
darkxstPonch0, what driver?04:16
Ponch0ethernet driver, wifi and wired, neither work after fresh install, and new hard drive04:16
darkxstis it from a PPA?04:16
Ponch0nope. from backports04:16
Ponch0network drivers rather.04:17
darkxsthmm the keys for backports are built in04:17
Ponch0I transfered the file from another computer with a usb04:18
Ponch0does it have something to do with the fact that I have Home as encrypted? I did do the install as root tho.04:18
darkxstoh possibly04:19
Ponch0damn, is there any way around this?04:20
darkxstno idea, I have never really played with encypted partitions04:20
Ponch0haha ok i'll reinstall without it04:22
darkxstbut usb stick should not be encryted so its kind of odd04:22
Ponch0the weird thing is the only thing i find on this error are unanswered posts or some obscure forums04:24
darkxstPonch0, you may get more help on one of the #ubuntu chanels04:27
Ponch0thanks04:28
Ponch0hey darkxst: if I wanted the newest release of ubuntu-gnome iso where would I get it?04:32
Ponch0with 13.10 3.804:32
darkxstjust grab the daily http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-gnome/daily-live/04:33
Ponch0awesome thank you!04:34
Ponch0what's odd is that during installation, my wifi works fine i can connect and update everything.04:45
darkxstPonch0, if wifi works during installation, it should also work after!05:04
Ponch0exactly!05:04
Ponch0I'm doing an install now, see if anything changes.05:05
Ponch0without encrypt home folder05:05
Ponch0nope no luck with the internet, still doesn't work05:24
Ponch0i just found something in logs apparmor="DENIED"05:43
topylihm. where's the notification area? things keep changing! i'm going back to twm! :-)08:10
darkxsttopyli, <super>+M08:34
topylioh! thanks darkxst :)08:35
darkxstor just swipe down with mouse ;)08:36
darkxsti.e hit bottom edge of screen with a bit of screen08:36
darkxstspeed even08:36
topyliso it seems. i've been too slow apparently :)08:36
bjsniderdarkxst, any idea what the process would be to run a wayland session just for testing and whatnot? i have all 3 ppas15:51
Ponch0hey guys is there a way to remove gnome network manager without removing gnome desktop?17:10
bjsniderwhy no empathy 3.10 in any of the ppas?17:13
topyliPonch0: no, but removing gnome-desktop is not a big deal. gnome-desktop is just a metapackage that contains no software in itself17:19
topyliwhen you upgrade the system from say 13.04 to 13.10, it's good to have those metapackages in place however. it increases your chances of having a sane upgrade :)17:20
Ponch0oh ok, but does that mean that i will have unity desktop if it gets removed?17:22
topylino. if you're running gnome, you've probably broken unity for good :)17:23
Ponch0it's a fresh install of ubuntu-gnome 13.10, so I never had it i guess?17:23
topyliall those packages like ubuntu-desktop, ubuntu-gnome-desktop, gnome-desktop etc. all contain zero software in themselves. they're just aides that help you easily install a bunch of other packages17:23
Ponch0ah ok thank you topyli17:24
topylicheers17:24
Ponch0topyli, one last question, I'm using wicd, how can I get the icon in the top gnome panel?17:25
Ponch0i found somoething about it in bazaar.launchpad but I have no idea how to use that17:25
Ponch0https://launchpad.net/wicd17:25
Ponch0rather this one: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~wicd-devel/wicd/experimental/revision/85317:26
topylithe topicons extension comes to mind, from extensions.gnome.org17:27
Ponch0awesome thanks so much once more.17:28
topyliit moves "legacy tray icons" to the top panel. icons like wicd and skype and what have you17:28
Ponch0haha already works, your awesome thank you!17:28
topyli:)17:29
topylii broke poncho's network :(17:31
topyli:)17:31
darkxstbjsnider, that is a ricotz question!21:32
bjsniderdarkxst, i'm getting it working here and then i will submit it for acceptance in the ppa21:33
bjsnider3.8 just doesn't work with gnome 3.10 obviously21:33
bjsniderunusable21:33
darkxstbjsnider, it might need an updated clutter, which we can upload to the ppa, due to many rdepends21:36
bjsnideri haven't got that far yet21:36
phillwdarkxst: is there anything urgent needed for notifications, or bringing people up to speed on generic bugs that I can help you with?22:25
darkxstphillw, I havent had time to really track things over the last few days, so not sure where we are at with generic bugs23:48
phillwdarkxst: afaik, we still all have https://launchpad.net/bugs/122016523:52
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1220165 in parted (Ubuntu) "Error informing the kernel about modificatons" [Critical,Fix committed]23:52
phillwit is hopefully on the mend. It will require a complete re-spin and re-test.23:53
phillwdarkxst: Ali is still unwell. lubuntu is heading for rrelease (as you are); do feel free to poke me in the ribs and I will help out where I can.23:56
phillwthe major push will be when https://launchpad.net/bugs/1220165 gets released. As a previous release manager, provided you can show it will sort out the side by side bug for ubuntu-gnome the release team will accept previous results to allow a full release :)23:59
