[00:05] howdy Unit193 [00:06] good night === Bronz_ is now known as Bronze [02:04] Hi! Can someone help me get Java working on my "Raring Ringtail" system? [02:06] I've posted my concern at the bottom of http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2161996 , but I still haven't gotten a response yet. [02:07] Anybody? =) [02:07] can anyone point me in the right direction to finding a solution for large icons on the program menu? [02:07] thanks [02:08] franktmorgan: what jdk are you trying to install ? open or oracle? [02:09] I started out with OpenJDK, but I'm not sure anymore that it's reliable. Just tonight I thought I'd go with Oracle, but if I can get OpenJDK working, I'd settle for that. [02:09] My Menu://applications/ window never loads, just says it is loading and never finishes [02:09] Anyone have any idea what that is about? [02:10] I dunno. [02:11] look here franktmorgan: http://thismagpie.blogspot.com/2012/07/installing-eclipse-juno-42-on-lubuntu.html [02:11] Thanks. [02:11] you welcome [02:12] you will have to purge the open jdk though [02:13] Already did that. Went to Synaptic and completely removed all eight of my OpenJDK packages. [02:14] So, Eclipse Juno 4.2 will enable me to use Java online? I was having problems with that. [02:22] LuvLinusOS I've gotta go. Thanks for the recommendation! I've got it bookmarked to go through the instructions tonight or tomorrow. [02:27] LuvLinuxOS are you free to give me a hand? [02:57] yes Captain_Phil [02:57] what do you need? [03:22] I am working from a fresh install [03:22] When I open the file manager and click applications [03:22] It says it is loading but never loads [03:31] what version? [03:32] os? [03:38] sorry. lubunto [03:38] the newest one distro [03:40] 13.04 have you install display drivers? [03:43] yes [03:43] Menu://applications/ is the location not loading [03:48] have you tried reinstall pcmanfm manually? [03:49] what display driver did you install? [03:55] I guess the default one, I am going to see if I can find a non generic one [04:07] open the terminal and type lspci | grep VGA [04:08] this will tell you what type of display card you have then you [04:08] can search the net for the steps to insall [04:08] normally will be found in ubuntu wiki pages [04:14] Intel Corporation 2nd genrationn core proces or family intergrated graphics contreols (rev 09) [04:19] i have the driver it looks like [04:19] did apt get on xserver-xorg-video-intel and it said I already am good to go [04:26] hello [04:26] new here [04:30] anybody [04:30] yes [04:31] hey [04:31] what do you need help with? [04:31] i aqm a big fan of linux /lubuntu os [04:32] having problems with video converting software to dvd format [04:32] any recommendations [04:34] * ianorlin isn't sure how to save to dvd format [04:37] are you burning dvds? [04:38] he is only in offtopic now [04:39] I really should keep my join and leave messeges on [11:26] hi [11:30] why is it that Lubuntu is one of the lowest PC requirement Ubuntu-bases distros, but Windows 98 still has a lower requirement by far? (16MB of RAM) [11:32] now really [12:31] and MS DOS is has even lower requirements, doesn't even require a 32bit processor [12:31] but, is it actually useful today? [12:32] tsimpson, no, but Windows 98 is [12:32] i just heard in Ubuntu IRC, Lubuntu might be a good replacement for U Studio v10.04.3 LTS 64 bit? [12:33] amcsi_work: really? you can install modern web browsers and office suites on it? [12:33] I mean, it has a full gui and everything [12:33] i'm an internet DJ -and- do tons of intense audio production w/Recording studio stuff [12:34] tsimpson, that may not have been the case since about 3 years ago. [12:34] amcsi_work: the base OS doesn't need many resources, what people actually use their systems for does [12:35] like idjc.sourceforge.net, spend about 30 hours a week in Audacity, Sound Converter, Ardour gtk etc etc w/Gnome 2. [12:36] might Lubuntu be a good alternative? (since my ubuntu studio v10.04.3 LTS 64 bit started a hairline crack, unrepairable) [12:36] *DVD r [12:37] tsimpson, I've compared win98 and Damn Small Linux on the same P3 800MHz computer before and browsing the internet was still a lot faster on Windows 98. I just don't get it how Windows 98 is faster even though it can seemingly do more than Damn Small Linux does. [12:37] I do know for a fact though that Win98 is very buggy. Would thta be the sole trade-off? [12:37] it's probably faster because the browser is so dumb [12:37] have DSL CD R's. i love it, but studio programs wont work in it :( [12:38] tsimpson, no. I was using the latest Opera at that time while DSL was using an old Firefox 2 [12:39] I've no idea then, I haven't used '98 in over a decade [12:39] i've tried Desktop, Kubuntu. DSL, xyzUbuntu bla bla. none compares to Studio [12:39] wish Knoppix v7.0 worked. but Klaus Knopper doesn't recommend installing it [12:40] :/ [12:41] i'd kill for a download ISO of studio v10.04.3 LTS 64 bit :( [12:41] its about 1.7 GB ISO [12:43] my DVD-R started with a small crack. in a couple weeks, crack spread to the outer edge [12:44] tried "dvdisaster" for 2 hours. couldn't recover the DVD [15:14] What's wrong with the desktop in 13.04? It won't allow me to drag icons to the desktop from /usr/share/applications. [15:14] I should be able to drag n drop .desktop files but it's refusing. [15:15] why do they keep botching the desktop...why? [15:21] I can only drag a maximum of 12 icons then it refuses any more. [15:22] i'll logout and see if it refreshes the desktop. brb [15:29] Re-arranging the desktop icons seems to have fixed the problem [15:32] Still a bug though, when you drag a bunch of icons onto the desktop it suddenly refuses to accept more until you re-arrange the desktop. Now i'm getting "flying" desktop icons, a ghost icon moves across the screen [15:33] Drag 20 or 30 icons onto the desktop and see what i mean [15:35] happy bug fixing [18:08] Is this the right place for questions about LXDE? [18:09] clifter: as long as you run it under Lubuntu yes, I guess ;) [18:19] Hinatshka: Ok thanks [18:19] Hinatschka: Thanks [23:13] new install for lubuntu-core but lubuntu-qt session is not coming out. any ideas why? I have razorqt as required.
