lem1310hi all, just testing 13.10 (updated just now to latest packages), and i12:00
lem1310err.. i've come across what i believe to be a regression in the way scrolling works12:02
lem1310nautilus, gedit and update-manager wont respond to mousewheel scroll events unless their windows are focused and the mouse pointer is located above them12:03
lem1310gnome-terminal and firefox on the other hand will scroll if their window is focused (regardless of the location of the mouse pointer), or if unfocused they will scroll if the mouse pointer is above their window12:04
lem1310gnome-terminal and firefox are the way it's always been. nautilus, gedit and update-manager seem to be doing it the windows way.. which has always infuriated me12:04
lem1310still, any suggestions what package to file a bug against?12:04
brainwashlem1310: default ubuntu with unity?12:08
lem1310yep indeed, everything default12:09
lem1310i've installed nvidia-319-updates, but i doubt the nvidia driver has anything to do with it12:10
brainwashso maybe "unity7" is the right package to file a report against12:10
lem1310sounds like a good idea.. as a general "desktop bug" package, thanks12:11
brainwashmmh, just curious, can you reproduce the issue if you start gedit like this from a terminal window "LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 gedit"?12:12
lem1310let me test12:15
lem1310yes, same behaviour, so it doesn't appear related to the overlay scrollbar12:16

bjsniderSuperLag, what is the exact version, is it 319?14:44

eagles0513875BluesKaj: want to know whats really annoying it seems like each app spawns a new control in the mixer to adjust volume14:44
BluesKajeagles0513875. yup , but always chaeck alsamixer rather than kmix , alsa shows what;s really going on14:44
eagles0513875at least in terms of firefox it uses an alsa plugin container which is very annoying as i cant use the main audio control in kmix to manage the levels14:44
eagles0513875i dont even have alsa mixer installed14:45
SuperLagbjsnider: let me pull out that laptop, so I can get you exact info. (on my MBP, currently)14:45
bjsniderif you install the driver i'll bet you can successfully modprobe it14:45
BluesKajit's alsamixer not alsa mixer14:45

eagles0513875my bad14:47
bjsniderSuperLag, additional drivers14:47
SuperLagbjsnider: Okay. Forgot that I tried installing the xorg-edgers PPA as I've had good luck with them in the past.... so now it shows up to nvidia-331 as available. Should I ditch that PPA first?14:52
SuperLagbjsnider: while I have that PPA configured, no packages from it are currently installed14:53
bjsnideryes you should ppa-purge it14:53
bjsniderSuperLag, you mentioned a black screen. do you see the manufacturer's splash screen first?14:54
SuperLagbjsnider: I do. This is a Lenovo ThinkPad W530. I do indeed see the Lenovo splash screen first.14:55
SuperLagPPA purged.14:55
bjsniderok14:55
SuperLagshould I reboot? or is that overkill?14:55
bjsniderno14:55
SuperLaggoing back to "Additional Drivers" and 319 is the latest14:56
SuperLagnvidia-319 and nvidia-319-updates14:56
SuperLagnouveau is the current driver in use14:57
bjsnideryeah so p ick 31914:57
SuperLag319 or 319-updates?14:59

BluesKajoptimius15:22
BluesKaj?15:22
SuperLagugh... don't tell me I have to install bumblebee15:22
SuperLagI don't understand why this only became an issue, as of 3.11.0-11-generic15:23
bjsniderSuperLag, if you try to modprobe nouveau it says there's no such module right?15:23
SuperLaglibkmod: ERROR ../libkmod/libkmod-module.c:791 kmod_module_insert_module: could not find module by name='off'15:25

bjsniderthe nvidia packaging blacklists it. so you're using nvidia's kernel module with nouveau's gallium3d glx15:26
bjsnidervery unique setup15:26
SuperLagso... in the alternatives output, nvidia was one of the options. Can you simply switch to that with update-alternatives?15:27
bjsnideri can give you the command that should switch glx links but why not just try apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-319 first15:27
bjsniderthen repeat the readlink command afterwards15:27
BluesKajSuperLag. check this out ,  http://askubuntu.com/questions/288581/how-to-install-nvidia-319-12-driver-on-an-optimus-system15:28
