kaddiis there a way to disable the touchpad while typing? i used to do this with a syndeamon command, but wanted to ask if there's an "official" way now?00:12
kaddignome seems to have something in their system settings for it, that's why i'm asking00:12
Addlekaddi: From what I gather, you might be able to do that from the synaptiks program.00:28
Addlekaddi: Would be nice if that was in the system settings. Sounds like useful functionality to me!00:28
kaddisyndeamon does it, you just need to set it up as a service for it, if you're interested :)00:30
kaddisomething like this: syndaemon -i 0.8 -K -R -t00:32
Addlekaddi: I may do that on my friend's laptop. He has this huge and massively sensitive touchpad. I really hate that thing. :)00:32
kaddihaha00:34
kaddiyou wouldn't happen to be familiar with the ROOT framework on ubuntu and now where it is installed upon installation through apt-get, would you?00:34
kaddii found the executable, but i need the libraries as well00:35
Addlekaddi: No, sorry.00:35

AddleI often find ones for previous releases work ok. Could try using the raring version.06:09
Addlekrise: Try something like: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:w-shackleton/droid-daily raring main. I think that might do it. I've not yet tried it like that, but a variant of that should work.06:16
Addlekrise: Or add this to /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/w-shackleton/droidpad-daily/ubuntu raring main06:17
Addlekrise: ANd another identical line but with deb-src in front of it instead of just deb.06:17

sobczykhi, how to remove screen configuration from kde? I rotated my screen in kscreen, but now graphics driver fails09:03
lordievaderGood morning.09:04
lordievadersobczyk: What do you get now? A black screen?09:04
sobczyklordievader: yes, I can switch to terminal though, and lightdm works fine, since the rotation is applied after I log in09:06
lordievadersobczyk: Ok great, login. Get a black screen, change to a tty and run the following commands:09:06
lordievaderexport DISPLAY=:0&&xrandr --output default --auto09:07
lordievaderAnd then change back to see if it has the correct result.09:07

kaddihi guys :)09:41
lordievaderHey kaddi09:41
kaddiI was here yesterday for my non-working internet.. then it worked nicely for about 12h and now I can get online agan.. but the issue seems to be somewhat different. I am connected to the network (according to kubuntu) but can't even ping the router, but I did get an IP from the router09:43
kaddii would need an idea how to start troubleshooting this09:43
lordievaderkaddi: Did you set a static ip?09:44
kaddioriginally yes. But I've removed it since. I've tried both with a static (non-occupied) IP and DHCP. result is the same09:44
kaddithe IP I get from DHCP is not the same as the static one I set, so I think that much is workin09:45
kaddig09:45
lordievaderkaddi: So you do get an ip from your router? That is good. The adress you use for the gateway is also correct?09:46
kaddiisn't that set by dhcp? It's the same as yesterday and yesterday it was working fine09:46
kaddishould be good09:47
lordievaderkaddi: This was wifi, if I remember correctly?09:48
kaddiyes09:48
lordievaderkaddi: See if you can ping the router with a cable.09:48
kaddimy phone is connected on wifi as well, and that works09:48
kaddigonna try to reboot first.. cable is always a pita for me09:51
kaddihmm.. that seems to have solved the problem09:52
kaddiis there a way to figure out what caused it in retrospect.. wifi dropped out about 3h ago09:52
lordievaderkaddi: It's a laptop right?09:53
kaddiyes09:54
lordievaderkaddi: Put it next to the router plug in a cable and see if you can ping the router ;) That way you can figure out if it is the wifi card or the os.09:54
kaddii rebooted and it's connected now... so it must've been a software issue09:55
lordievaderkaddi: So the cable works?09:56
kaddiafter the reboot wifi works09:57
kaddicable is always a problem here, as it's hidden well below the table and I need to move several boxes before I can really reach it09:57
kaddiso I did a reboot of the laptop first because it's easier. After the reboot, wifi reconnected09:57
kaddihowever I would still like to understand what caused the disconnect as I don't want to have to reboot my laptop every 15h to get wifi back :p09:57
lordievaderkaddi: Hmm wel if the wifi works, that's good I suppose.09:58
lordievaderkaddi: Wifi is quite a complex field, without thorough research one won't be able to say why you got disconnected.09:58
kaddihmm, ok09:59

frostedhi lordievader ^^11:43
lordievaderfrosted: What do you mean with the same bass?11:45
frostedlordievader: over the 5.1 using the normal audio jack calbes it carries a bit more bass, and is slightly louder before it gets to my 5.1 system. Now in windows the coax carries better sound quality.11:46
lordievaderfrosted: Hmm odd, I have no experience with SPDIF but you could check pavucontrol to see if there is something you can improve.11:47

BluesKajok frosted describe your audio setup , pls , need to know what equipment we're dealin with g12:59
BluesKajoops , dealing with12:59
frostedLogitech 5.1 system, the Z4500 model, has 2 optical inputs, one coax,. 3 analog, for 5.1 input, I have a razor headset that uses the analog output of my pc, nd the cable is too short for me to plug the mic into the back of the pc and the headphones into the surround sounds' controller, so I use the coax, besides the coax sounds  a bit better.13:01
BluesKajok but which connections are you using , frosted?13:05
frostedI am using the coax to the z4500 and the analog goes to my headset.13:06
BluesKajok , good13:06
BluesKajcomparing the analog to the digital is apples and oranges13:07
frostedBut when I plugged the 3 analog calbes into the z4500 just to test, it was a bit louder on the same volume on the controller.  and the bass was a bit more there. I would use the analog but I can't exactly with this headset if it was usb that would have been diff.13:08
BluesKajrather than turning up the digital , turn down the analog a little if you're looking for nornalization (equal vol level)13:08
frostedBluesKaj: but for some reason in windows even my headset can go louder 0.13:09
frosted0.o13:09
BluesKajcheck the volume on the player you use13:10

lordievaderfrosted: You can get an analog splitter, you know.13:15
frostedlordievader: but then i would hear the sound over both ^^13:15
BluesKajso the headphone volume on digital is your real issue then , frosted , correct ?13:16
frostedno the digital volume on the digital is13:16
BluesKajwhat about the speaker system itself , is there no volume ctrl ?13:17
frostedBluesKaj: there is but my point being the sound volume that comes from the pc before it gets to the speakers the analog has more volume on linux than the coax.13:18
BluesKajasuming these speakers are "self powered"13:18
BluesKajthat's a function of the DA converter , the output volume is  going to be different13:20

bjrohanI could use some help with multiple displays. Everything was going swell withmy displays (not my beats audio) after the upgrade to 13.10. I plugged my lapptop into my TV via HDMI to wach a movie. Now I can not seem to get the display to sync correctly after unplugging the HDMI16:50
Whiskey`Wonkaok so i did a update to 13.10 on my laptop. Now when i use the scroll wheel on a grouped task (namely firfox) it no longer moves up/down the list but directly slides left/right to the next application16:50
Whiskey`Wonkaany idea what setting that would be?16:51
Whiskey`Wonkabjrohan: how is it not synced?16:51
bjrohanWell, I have no idea how it is supposed to work. Before I would have 4 desktops. Plug into the TV, and I would have 4 on the laptop, and when moving my cursor to the right, it would then move to the TV16:52
ablyssWhiskey`Wonka, wouldn't that be a HTML5 control?16:53
bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: Now, when I unplug my laptop, I get the default blue wallpaper, but I can not see anything open onthe desktop, no cursor, or anything16:53
Whiskey`Wonkaablyss: uhm, whats html have to do with the K task bar?16:53
Whiskey`Wonkabjrohan: ah, go look in your device settings for what setup the video is set to16:54
bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: WHen I go to setings displays, I show 2 displays LVDS1 and Samsung Electronic company. My TV is Samsung16:54
Whiskey`Wonkathere is mirrored, extended, etc, and you can change the location of the extention16:54
ablyssWhiskey`Wonka, you meantioned firefox and I thought it was related...my bad16:54
Whiskey`Wonkaablyss: oh right. its just that i have 20 to 40 firefoxes open and can not reach the top of the list16:55
Whiskey`Wonkathis is all purely on the panel that is the task bar16:55
bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: where do I find thos settings? In the system settings, display somewhere?16:55
Whiskey`Wonkabjrohan: yea, ill look on mine i know i had to tweak it16:56
Whiskey`Wonkasystem settings, display configuration16:56
bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: Thank you. I am on that page and I have to options on the left, Display config and Screen Locker. On Display Config, I see the 2 monitors with 3 icons 1 to rotate, 1 to adjust resolutions, and one star, that is all16:57
Whiskey`Wonkathats all im seeing today too, i know there was a option there about what to do with the 2nd monitor16:57
bjrohanCould be poopy for me that I am locked into having my TV connected :-)16:58
bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: If I uncheck the Samsung while it is plugged in, nothing shows on my TV, only my laptop.16:58
bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: However if I then unplug my laptpop, from teh TV, my laptop screen goes lank16:59
bjrohanblank16:59
bjrohanPerhaps this is also wonky? I can't get my audio to work properly either :-(17:00
Whiskey`Wonkathat is likely cause your tv is for primary and then mirrored to the lcd17:00

bjrohanI don't think so, in other words if I have thunderbird open, and then create a message, it doesn't show 2 open items, but just one Thunderbird icon, that when hovered over, displays the 2 realted Thunderbird tasks?17:09

bjrohanWhiskey`Wonka: I found the settings for that (right click on task panel) edit settings. I changed mine to always group. In my example above when I hovered over the Thunderbird in my task panel, and scrolled with my mouse, it changed to scrolled through the actual open tasks on the dekstop17:19

AddleMountainX: Try adding the nomodeset option to the kernel boot parameters.17:53
Addle!nomodeset17:54
ubottuA common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter17:54
MountainX@Addle: btw, I don't see any errors in the Xorg.0.log.17:54

MountainXAddle: are there other ideas I can try too? I'd like to get all the info I can before I try rebooting again.18:02

Addleuser1: You'll need the -r flag for 'recursive'.18:50
user1k18:50
Addleuser1: Though you can also use 'mv' to just rename, if appropriate.18:50
user1did the chmod but no use18:52
user1now deleting .kde18:53
Addleuser1: I generally would move it, not delete it.18:53
user1yes18:53
Addleuser1: Better safe than sorry. :)18:53
user1nop18:55
user1Addle,  well how can i make the new user as sudoer . I would just copy my / home data to the new user and delete the old one18:56
=== jalcine_ is now known as jalcine
Addleuser1: Add that user to the 'sudo' group.18:57
Addleuser1: There's probably some proper way to do that, but I always just edit the /etc/group file and add the user to the correct place on the sudo group's line.18:58
Addleuser1: Should look like 'sudo:x:27:someuser,anotheruser'18:59
Addleuser1: If the '27' is another number, don't worry about it.18:59
Addleuser1: Seems a bit drastic to fix it this way, but frankly, we could be here all day trying to figure out what broke without an error message stating where it failed.19:01
user1k19:01
user1is that an offer?19:02
Addleuser1: LOL19:02
user1:|)19:02
user1brb19:02
Addleuser1: Just make 100% sure you copied everything of value before deleting your old user's home, obviously. :)19:03
Addleuser1: A good time to tout the benefits of having a backup or two. This message brought to you by backups. Because if you don't have them, it's just a matter of time before you lose it all. lol19:04
ray_BluesKaj: Btw installed those but it didn't help neither with the fglrx problem. Something is really screwed there. Installation runs fine. Deinstallation with the GUI not (GUI stays greyed out). But deinstallation via the terminal runs fine again.19:05
BluesKaj ray_ ??, did you use a different nick earlier ?. I'm not sure about your reference19:07
ray_BluesKaj: Yup sry. Realized it after I already sent the msg. It was RayZa.19:08
=== ray_ is now known as RayZa
BluesKajok RayZa19:08
RayZaBluesKaj: Last msg by me was 17:12:0619:10
BluesKajRayZa. yeah , but I'm in a diff time zone and I rebooted since we spoke last19:11
RayZaBluesKaj: So I could install fglrx but then it wouldn't let me past the bootscreen. It apparently got stuck there visually but not the rest since I could shut it down gracefully by shortly pressing the power button.19:13

AddleQuest: Good :)19:20
Questlost configs and settings though. will make  a fresh start19:20
AddleQuest: Always annoying, but at least you're up and running.19:20
Questwell question to all: how to make file display as details for ALL dirs what so ever, when so ever in dolphin?19:20
QuestAddle,  yes. thats what matters19:20
AddleQuest: There's an option to turn that on by default. Let me check...19:21
=== jalcine_ is now known as jalcine
QuestAddle,  ok. brb in 519:22
AddleQuest: Well, I thought I saw an option. Anyways, the View meny has a toggle for it. Also, Alt+.19:22

QuestAddle,  thanks any way !19:47
AddleQuest: Yep, still here.19:47
AddleQuest: And you're welcome :)19:48
Questfound the dolphin thing?19:49
AddleNo, but you can toggle it on in the View menu or Alt+.19:49
AddleQuest: Oh there it is!19:50
AddleQuest: View menu -> Adjust View Properties.19:50
AddleQuest: Set it up how you like as default behaviour and then set Apply View Properties to "All Folders" and check "Use these view properties by default".19:51
QuestI see control>dolphin settings> view modes only19:51
AddleQuest: Oh, you have the menu still disabled. I turned it back on. Let me turn it off and see where it ends up.19:52
AddleOh, the Adjust View Properties is right there in the control menu.19:53
Questk19:53
Questgreat Addle  works.19:54
Questthanks again19:55

dhqhey people i just recently updated to 13.10 .... how do i force a resolution ... i have 1600*1200 i need 108020:02

lordievaderdhq: Read this: http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/guerrilla-tactics-force-screen-mode-ubuntu20:04
soeelordievader, wouldnt easier be using nvidia-settings ?20:06
soee(for propriety drivers)20:07
lordievadersoee: I usually use xrandr for such things, works like a charm.20:07
soee:)20:07
soeei think the native resolution should be detected by default ?20:07
dhqsoee: its an external monitor connected to my laptop20:27
dhqi dont know what do do with xandr20:29
nafgHello20:58
nafgI just upgraded20:59
nafgWhenever I move the mouse to the edge of the screen a blue "halo" line appears20:59
nafgWhat is that?20:59
nafgBtw muon always crashes21:00
BluesKajnafg. upgraded what ?21:01
nafgBluesKaj: To Saucy21:01
nafgwhat else ;)21:01
BluesKajok nafg , then run sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade21:02
Addlenafg: The blue glow thing is probably just a screen edge hotspot. Should be configurable in the settings in Workspace Behavior -> Screen Edges.21:02
nafgBluesKaj: Why? what will that do?21:03
BluesKajfinish upgrading some packages in suacy21:04
BluesKajerr saucy :)21:04
nafgAddle: thanks, that's probably what it is, since there's a glow also when I move to the corner. But I only have one corner edge action, and 8 glows.21:05
nafgOTOH that setting dialog only lets you configure actions on the *corners*21:05
nafgIIRC it used to allow edges too but now seems not21:05
nafgSo doesn't adequately explain the glows21:06
BluesKajghost tin the machine21:07
=== d3k4 is now known as d3k4^Asleep
Addlenafg: Might be the "Switch desktop on edge" setting. And you should see boxes for 4 edges and 4 sides in the monitor graphic.21:07
BluesKajok , enough for one day ..later21:07
AddleLater, BluesKaj21:07
nafgBluesKaj: great, just what I needed21:07
nafgAddle: I don't though :(21:08
Addlenafg: Ok, that's rather odd then.21:08
nafgAddle:21:08
nafgaha21:08
nafgit depends on the setting you mentioned21:08
Addlenafg: Ah, yes I see. :)21:08
Addlenafg: Makes sense.21:08
nafgessentially it *is* an edge action, that comes 4 edges at a time21:09
Addlenafg: Yep21:09
nafgbut doesn't explain the other 3 corner glows21:09
nafgnow they're also gone21:09
nafgalso, IMHO the glow should only appear when there's another desktop in that direction21:10
nafgor if they wrap around21:10
nafgbut I think ATM I prefer it disabled so I'm ok21:10
nafgin general the glow is a very good improvement21:10
Addlenafg: Mine do wrap around.21:11
nafgit's a setting somewhere IIRC but mine don't.21:11
Addlenafg: Yep, I see it in the Virtual Desktops settings. Agreed that it shouldn't glow if there's no desktop there.21:12
nafgalso if you have 2 desktops even with wrap around there are only 2 valid edges21:13
nafgunless it "wraps around" to itself21:13
Addlenafg: Ok, now you've made me want to test that. :)21:14
nafgmuon discover at least opens21:14
nafgis old muon software center supposed to be removed?21:14
nafgbut discover is slow21:15
Addlenafg: WIth one row, it no longer switches on the edge, and no longer shows the glow on the top/bottom edges. For me, anyways.21:15
nafgthat's good21:15
nafgso it needs to check if wraparound is off21:15
nafgso slow21:15
nafg!!21:15
Addlenafg: Muon seems to be coming along, but I still end up using synaptic anyways.21:16
Addlenafg: Not as user friendly, and it's harder to find what you want, but it's still one of the first things I always install.21:17
nafgi often just use command line, but still21:17
nafgthis is made with qt "quick" right??21:18
Addlenafg: I have no idea.21:20

alesanhi I have updatd to kubuntu 13.10 and now my PTP camera does not open anymore22:47
alesanany hint to at least debug the issue?22:47
alesanif I go to camera:/ in konqueror it does not show anything22:48
Addlealesan: I don't have one, but perhaps it just needs to be configured in the system settings? There's a digital camera entry in Hardware.22:51
zacariasDoes someone know if the bug with the 13.04 to 13.10 upgrade is already fixed?22:58
alesanAddle, I see it in the control panel but it doe not allow me to copy the data22:58
Addlealesan: Don't have one to test, but mass storage mode probably works ok. All I can think is make sure you have libgphoto2 installed.23:05
alesanmass storage works but my D700 unfortunately does not have it. Damn Nikon23:05
Addlealesan: Note to self: Don't buy one of those.23:05
alesanAddle, OK, but with 13.04 it was working23:06
alesanand you won;t easily find a camera with such low noise performance23:06
alesanso the real note to self would be: do not update to 13.1023:13
Addlealesan: At least if you have a PTP camera.23:14
Addlealesan: All I can say is maybe post in the kubuntu forums, or check the bug tracker and log a bug report if it hasn't already.23:14
alesanthe procedure to report a bug is cumbersome... I prefer to find a workaround and wait for the next release23:17
Addlealesan: Might want to see if it works in some other software, like digikam.23:17
alesandigikam has way too many dependancies, it's crazy23:18
Addlealesan: Sure, but it does help others and helps make the software better.23:18
alesanI counted 52 I have to install in my system23:18
alesanso now I'm about to try gphoto from the command line/interective23:18
Addlealesan: Or other software, I suppose.23:18
Addlealesan: Worth a shot.23:19
alesangphoto2 --get-all-files !!! it works and it's so simple!!!!23:22
alesanI do not think I will use konqueror anymore for this23:22
Addlealesan: Excellent! Problem with konqueror I guess.23:22
alesanor dolphin, it's the same23:22
alesanbye!23:22
amichairHola, I just upgraded to 13.10 and apache2 is broken, is there any doc somewhere on what changes need to be made to configuration to fix it?23:28
Addleamichair: Mine is a fresh install of 13.10, but apache2 works fine for me. So doubt there's a doc on it. But maybe there's some clues in the apache2 logs?23:30
amichairAddle: from what I understood the problem is that upgrading from Apache 2.2 to 2.4 there were various configuration changes, and that's what causes it to break. 13.04 had 2.2, 13.10 has 2.4.23:32
amichairAddle: I don't see anything useful in the logs yet23:32
Addleamichair: Ah, that could well be. Hope there's something in the logs, otherwise debugging it may be "fun".23:33
amichairAddle: do you have conf.d mentioned anywhere in the configs?23:34
AddleNo, though I do have a conf.d directory.23:36
amichairAddle: ok, I thought there might be an include statement missing somewhere, but I guess it's hardcoded23:36
amichairAddle: may I ask what files you have under sites-available?23:37
Addleamichair: 000-default.conf and default-ssl.conf23:37
amichairAddle: hmmm... I also have a 000-default.conf.dpkg-new and default.dpkg-dist, though the dates are not from now23:38
Addleamichair: I suppose those might have some clues on how to change the files.23:40
Addleamichair: This might be useful: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/upgrading.html23:41
amichairAddle: thanks, I went through it and made some changes but it wasn't enough23:43
Addleamichair: Might want to start it in debug mode (-X flag). Really should be some sort of error somewhere when it fails.23:44
Addleamichair: Also, -t runs a syntax check on the config files.23:45
amichairAddle: it doesn't totally fail, just appears to ignore all custom configuration and just show the standard welcome page23:45
Addleamichair: Do you have symlinks in sites-enabled to the relevant ones in sites-available?23:49
amichairAddle: I have them all defined under conf.d (one file with several virtualhosts), nothing in sites-enabled and only 000-default in sites-available (this has always worked)23:51
Addleamichair: Hm, might try just symlinking them then. According to the to of my apache2.conf, that's the way it should be.23:51
amichairAddle: all config files everywhere are of the same format right?23:53
Addleamichair: I think so, but I haven't worked with apache config files in eons.23:54
