VivekI would like to join #ubuntu-beginners-dev, I am getting a message that the channel is full. Please help.07:19
ubottuFloodBot1 called the ops in #ubuntu-ops-monitor (repeated abuse from jmgk)07:45
Vivekubottu: Ok,07:45
VivekI am a reputed member of the FreeNode community, so allowing me in should not be a problem.07:46
FlannelVivek: From what I can tell, that channel doesn't exist anymore, which is why you can't get it.07:47
Flannel(it technically does exist, but it's been set up to not allow anyone in, and to forward everyone who joins to #ubuntu)07:48
VivekFlannel: So which is the channel for beginner Ubuntu Developers ?08:45
FlannelVivek: probably #ubuntu-devel08:45

ikoniais someone trolling me elsewhere asking people to just start asking me random questions in #ubuntu or offer me fixes for problems I'm not having ?18:32
IdleOneI haven't seen anything18:33
bazhangshauntablet seems familiar18:33
ikoniaseems like an honest mistake18:33
bazhangIgnore elitest does not18:34
ikoniano, it doesn't18:34
bazhangsomeone else said the very thing18:34
bazhangor perhaps same with new nick18:34
ikoniaI'd not been followed, once the guy asking for help said "I assume you're not trying to help" - I stopped helping and he can expose his machine on the internet, I don't care18:35
bazhangit was just an odd comment off the bat, with no real contextual reason for it18:37
ikoniaagreed18:38
=== k1l_ is now known as k1l
owHi, I have some questions/requests/etc.22:36
owASM is currently used to monitor #ubuntu and report issues and stuff22:36
owthe Floodbots are also used to monitor #ubuntu and report issues and stuff, and sometimes automatically quiet/ban/kick people22:37
owThe thing is, the Floodbots IIRC only communicate attention via !_ops22:37
owASM has a plugin system available, whereby another monitoring bot can report problems via something like ;plugin <channel> <threat level> <reason>22:38
ikoniaASM ?22:39
owAntiSpamMeta22:39
ikoniaahh, your bot22:39
ikoniamaybe worth talking to ljl and members of the bot team ?22:39
IdleOneI think your first step would be to speak with LjL about this22:40
owASM has been (for quite some time) configured to ignore !_ops calls from the floodbots, because (in ASM's case) that is only meant to be used as a user-generated trigger22:40
LjLwhy do you think ow would have skipped that first step?22:40
ow^ :)22:40
IdleOneI'm not sure.22:40
k1lthe question is what LjL answered :)22:41
owIn my communication with LjL, he basically said that 1) the floodbots were long overdue for a complete rewrite; 2) he had his doubts as to whether or not the #ubuntu-ops would trust me, given stuff that happened, and other stuff that was rumored to have happened, 3 or 5 or howevermany years ago22:41
owanyways. I'd be up for the task of rewriting the Floodbots, and then turning the reigns completely over to the #ubuntu ops, with the stipulation that the code I write would be GPL'ed, and that they be allowed to use ASM's ;plugin functionality so long as ASM continues to be a thing on Freenode22:43
owhowever, I wouldn't want to undertake that task unless I had some assurance that the #ubuntu ops would be interested in making use of the code once I'm done22:43
owi.e. I don't want to spend countless hours doing a rewrite only to have them say "nah we'll stick with what we've got"22:44
IdleOneMy first instinct is to trust LjL, especially when it comes to the floodbots. If LjL says you can be trusted I would accept that. All that said the decision is not mine.22:44
IdleOneso your next step I think would be to contact the IRCC22:45
LjLi think the fact ow's bot has been working and reporting issues in many channels for several years now can't go unnoticed22:46
owI've said my peace. I'm going to part now and come back in a day or two, and see if there's simply any interest in having me do a rewrite. If there is interest, those interested can handle whatever politics or paperwork the process requires - working with beauracracy is something I'm very much *not* interested in.22:46
IdleOneLjL: indeed22:47
