=== ingo is now known as gaben [06:55] hi, a very quick question [06:55] my brightness controls stopped workin in 13.10 [06:55] is xorg the right package to file a bug against? [06:55] they worked fine ever since 12.04 [06:57] just saw some bug about it [06:58] oh you filed it [06:59] gaben: you could try an earlier nvidia driver [07:00] okay, i will try that [07:00] yes indeed it was me, just checking whether it was the right place to file it ;) [07:02] it's fine [07:03] thanks [07:08] I can only find 304 and 319 in the saucy repos [07:08] is there a ppa for other driver versions? [07:11] dunno, but 304 should support your card [07:28] indeed, but i don't get all the performance fixes of later version [07:37] it would confirm the bug is in the new driver.. [07:51] I'll reboot now and try it out [07:53] @tjaalton [07:53] jackpot [07:53] 304 works [07:53] ok [07:55] ingo: there's also nvidia-319-updates which is a bugfix release that might work [07:56] good, i will try that one [07:57] actually i was using that one [07:58] DkmsStatus: nvidia-319-updates, 319.60, 3.11.0-12-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-319-updates, 319.60, 3.8.0-31-generic, x86_64: installed [07:58] from my log. if i'm not mistaken that means that that one was running, doesn't it? [07:59] yes [08:01] Is there a way/or shoulld I inform NVIDIA of this? [08:17] there is nvidia-bug-report.sh or such [08:17] a script you could run to report it to nvidia === shadeslayer_ is now known as shadeslayer === psivaa is now known as psivaa-lunch === psivaa-lunch is now known as psivaa [13:03] i don't know how much longer they'll bother with 319, and there's a beta driver [13:23] bjsnider: what's your point? [13:23] i wonder if the issue is already fixed in the beta [13:24] yeah I thought about that too [13:25] what issue? [13:25] bug 1241745 [13:25] bug 1241745 in nvidia-graphics-drivers-319 (Ubuntu) "[regression] Changing the screen brightness does not work anymore in 319.xx" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1241745 [13:27] oh, I'm wondering if something changed in the kernel but then why would 304 still work? [13:29] I've just subscribed NVIDIA, just in case... [13:31] is there a safe way for that guy to test the beta? [13:34] bjsnider: I have a package he could test [13:35] tseliot, he's in here, ingo [13:36] ingo: if you want to test the latest driver, you can remove the driver that you're currently using and install the following http://people.canonical.com/~amilone/nvidia-331-updates_331.13-0ubuntu0.0.1_amd64.deb === mdeslaur is now known as chuck_ === chuck_ is now known as mdeslaur === psivaa is now known as psivaa-afk === seb128_ is now known as seb128 === ara is now known as Guest23418 [21:03] What is the proper method of assigning which graphics card X outputs to? I installed a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 card to a board with integrated Intel graphics. I downloaded and ran the latest NVIDIA driver for my system (304.108). It created a new xorg.conf file, and the installation appeared to go ok. Upon restarting the computer, the output is still to the old integrated DVI port. With `lspci -C video` I see the new card a [21:03] ttached to physical id: 0. Using a suggestion from a Wiki article, I added `Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP"` to the Screen section in the xorg.conf file. I appear to have extended my knowledge of this. Any tips or articles I should know? [21:11] SunPowered, why not just disable the intel chip in the bios [21:13] good idea, didn't think about the BIOS. I'll give it a whirl [21:18] bingo. Thanks bjsnider. Learned something today === jono is now known as Guest78132
