perolaHello. I am using xubuntu 13.04 and I have configured power manager correctly for it to so to suspend on lid closure for both AC and battery, however, when I close the lid the laptop does not suspend, why could this be and how could it be fixed? Suspending explicitely works00:36

RJ45I want Xubuntu to save my screenshots like Ubuntu saved my screenshots, with the title of the window as the title of the screenshots, instead of just a date and time (which is stupid BTW).  PLEASE TELL ME HOW! 0_002:57
holsteinRJ45: i would look and see about adding that same screenshot tool..02:59
RJ45holstein: come on!, there's gotta be a way using Xubuntu's tool!02:59
RJ45some kinda running modifier?03:00
RJ45--something maybe?03:00
holsteinRJ45: im sure there is, and its all open.. wait patiently for a volunteer who might know.. cheers03:00
RJ45¬_¬03:00
holsteinall i can suggest is, if you want the funcitonality of a specific tool, just use that tool03:00
RJ45holstein: I wouldn't even know how to get that to run in background...03:06
holsteinRJ45: what screenshot tool are you using?03:07
RJ45well the default of-cause, 'xfce3-screenshooter'03:07
RJ45what I probably wanna use is 'gnome-screenshot'03:08
RJ45I'm guessing it's all 'bout keybindings?03:08
RJ45hold on, I'll try something...03:08
RJ45ugh.. I kinda figured it out, *sigh* close enough :/03:23
RJ45not happy.03:23
RJ45but close-enough for me to care :|03:23
RJ45great, not even the other tool is doing the same thing!03:31
RJ45x_x03:31
RJ45I just want my screenshots to automatically be named after the window!03:31
holsteinRJ45: well, you want them to be automatically named differently than they are being named by default03:32
holsteinRJ45: let me look for a config file...03:32
RJ45but gnome-screenshot is doing the exact same thing xfce4-screenshooter !, the thing I'ng trying to avoid! x_x03:32
RJ45I can't win :(03:32
holsteinRJ45: win?.. its just a screenshot, friend.. you can always just rename them.. but, let me look..03:33
RJ45renameing my screenshots, everyth single time I take a screenshot, to names often over 40 characters long!?!, lol, NOPE!!!03:33
RJ45gotta be automated03:34
holsteinRJ45: you want to name them over 40 charachers?03:34
holsteincharacters*03:34
RJ45and gotta be named after the window being captured03:34
holsteinRJ45: it doesnt "gotta" be.. you prefer it to be.. and, im sure it can03:34
RJ45I repeat, HAVE-TO be named after the window being captured03:34
RJ45why are they being named after the date and time in the first place!?!, that's that metadata's for! 0_003:35
RJ45so stupid03:36
holsteinRJ45: no need to repeat.. but, its a preference that you have, not a requirement, or "stupid"03:36
RJ45you gotta admit, it doesn't make a-lot of sense when there's exif for the date and time..03:36
RJ45not exif, I mean meta*03:36
holsteinRJ45: i prefer it, actually.. the time stamp03:37
RJ45but it's in the meta data anyways! x_x agh03:37
RJ45._.03:37
RJ45well whatever, I still really want my good ol' screenshots back :/03:38
holsteinRJ45: you mean, the naming scheme..03:38
holsteinRJ45: have you tried other screenshot tools?03:38
holstein!info scrot03:38
ubottuscrot (source: scrot): command line screen capture utility. In component universe, is optional. Version 0.8-13 (saucy), package size 15 kB, installed size 72 kB03:38
RJ45¬_¬03:38
RJ45holstein: r u for real? x_x03:39
holsteinRJ45: when i search and find folks with that issue, they suggest scrot03:39
RJ45gnome-screenshot is the one I used-to use!03:39
RJ45I just want it to work like it did in Ubuntu 10.0403:40
holsteinRJ45: you care to try scrot? while im searching, as a vounteer, for how to rename them in the xfce tool?03:40
RJ45I installed gnome-screenshot in hopes it'd work as it did in Ubuntu, but it's not.03:40
RJ45it's doing the exact same thin xfce4-screenshooter is doing :(03:40
RJ45thing*03:40
holsteinRJ45: scrot is a different one.. would you care to try it? or just wait for another volunteer?03:41
RJ45holstein: I appreciate your free help, I really do, it's just.. you've said nothing helpfull :/03:41
RJ45thanks anyway I guess ._.03:42
holsteinRJ45: the old gnome screenshot tool has changed..03:42
RJ45oh no03:43
holsteinRJ45: ?03:43
RJ45ohy please no03:43
RJ45oh the horror03:43
RJ45what the hell is with the Ubuntu devs these days!?03:43
holsteinRJ45: we now its changed.. im looking for the config on how to change the naming scheme for the current tool you are using..03:43
holstein!language | RJ4503:43
RJ45they, like, flipped03:43
ubottuRJ45: Please watch your language and topic to help keep this channel family-friendly, polite, and professional.03:43
holsteinRJ45: this is not the "ubuntu" channel.. the tool would bascially be inherited from upstream xfce03:44
RJ45holstein: thank you very much kind sir, but seriously, 'cos I said 'hell'!?, are you for real?03:44
RJ45holstein: anyway, I really do appreciate your help here03:45
RJ45holstein: seriously, thanks in advanced! :D03:45
holsteinRJ45: this is relevant http://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-commits/2009-October/003886.html03:45
RJ45lol, this is sausage to me x_x03:46
RJ45please bear in-mind that although I have a working understanding of many things Linux-ey, by IRC standards I am a noob :P03:46
holsteinRJ45: have a look at the /topic and guidelines03:47
RJ45why?03:47
RJ45what's up?03:47
RJ45o.o03:47
holsteinRJ45: enjoy your stay.. please try and keep the channel clear of anything besides support related questions and answers.. good luck!03:48
RJ45would booting-up Ubuntu 10.04 in Virtualbox, and copying a particular config file over work?, or just screw things up?03:48
RJ45holstein: I never said anything off-topic! o.O03:49
RJ45hahah, starting a whole virtual machine just for a config file XD  , but I'm desperate and willing to do so.03:50
RJ45holstein: so, would it work?03:50
RJ45hmm, I wonder if installing an older downgrade of gnome-screenshot would work?, it's a stab in the dark for sure...03:52
holsteinRJ45: its not something i would be interested in for that particular functionality.. i would try scrot, which should allow easily selecting a filename when the screenshot is taken03:59
RJ45holstein: lol, so does xfce4-screenshooter and gnome-screenshot, but what I am really desperate for is for my 'AUTO name after captured window' functionality back :(04:01
holsteinRJ45: i open a terminal, and type "scrot filename.png" and a screenshot named "filename.png" is in my home directory04:01
holsteinRJ45: i dont use xfce4-screenshooter, and when i have, i have always just renamed them, if needed, after taking them. when i search, i see that it seems customizing the filename has been commited upstream. i do not see where to set that functionality04:02
RJ45holstein: does that automatically name the screenshot after the window that was captured?, what, it doesn't? oh.. ¬_¬04:03
holsteinRJ45: nothing has been removed from xubuntu, however. you are used to the functionality of the gnome tool, which has been changed upstream as well04:03
holsteinRJ45: when you refer to "it" above, are you asking how scrot names the file? it names it as i specify by the command i gave04:03
holsteinRJ45: "scrot windowname.png" for example04:03
RJ45*sigh*, I'm gonna go ahead and risk seeing if an old deprecated package will do what I want04:03
holsteinRJ45: it will likely be problematic. gnome changed drastically since 10.0404:04
RJ45yes, but I'm on Xubuntu :D04:04
RJ45so I'm feeling confident :)04:04
holsteinRJ45: ok... gtk has changed drastically since ubuntu or xubuntu 10.0404:05
RJ45hmm, welp, wish me luck :/04:05
holsteinRJ45: i actually suggest you dont try it.. but enjoy!04:05
RJ45what's the worst that could happen?04:06
RJ45dodgy screenshots?04:06
RJ45"Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: gnome-utils-common (>= 2.30)"  oh boy, well, that sucks :(04:07
RJ45guess I'm stuck then ._.04:07
RJ45I don't know much, but I've been using Ubuntu and Xubuntu long enough to know that if I install that, I am gonna have BIG problems :/04:08
RJ45holstein: wait wait wait, what if, I were to open the deprecated deb in archive manager, extract just the config file, and use that with the newer package?04:11
RJ45could it work?04:11
RJ45:o04:11
holsteinRJ45: you are asking for a config for a piece of software the is not made anymore, basically04:11
holsteinthat is not made*04:11
Poisoned_DragonWhat is RJ45 trying to do, again?04:11
RJ45hmm04:11
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: oh boy...04:11
holsteinPoisoned_Dragon: wants custom filenames (automatically) from the screenshot tool..04:12
Poisoned_Dragondefine custom04:12
holsteinPoisoned_Dragon: window name?04:12
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: do you remember how in the days of Ubuntu 10.04, screenshots of windows were automatically named after the window being captured?04:12
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: well, I DESPERATELY want that back :/04:13
holsteinRJ45: assume no one remembers, or used gnome at all04:13
RJ45holstein: aw man :'(04:13
holsteinRJ45: say what you want.. what is the filename *exactly* that you want?04:13
Poisoned_DragonActually, I wasn't heavy into ubuntu at 10.0404:13
Poisoned_DragonI came in around 11.1004:13
* RJ45 silently weeps04:13
holsteinRJ45: only questions or answers please.. thanks04:14
holsteinRJ45: state an *exact* sample filename04:14
Poisoned_Dragonusing xubuntu, RJ45?04:14
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: yes04:14
Poisoned_DragonSo, you want to know if xfce4-screenshooter can do this?04:15
holsteinPoisoned_Dragon: from http://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce4-commits/2009-October/003886.html , i read that it can, or could04:16
RJ45say I wanna screenshot a web-page, I'm on some weird website, instead of the screenshot being named the date and time, I want it to be automatically named after the window, in this case let's say 'Cute Guys With Blue Eyes - Firefox.png'.04:16
holsteinRJ45: i can use scrot and type "scrot CuteGuysWithBlueEyesFirefox.png" and get that.. is that not acceptable for you?04:17
RJ45holstein: I REALLY can't be typing the name every screenshot, for me at-least, it really MUST be AUTOmatically named after the window 0_004:18
RJ45holstein: also, as I've said 3 times now, what you say 'scrot' can do, both tools I've tried already do.04:19
RJ45holstein: if I could settle for that, I wouldn't even be here, you have no idea just how important it is to me, for every screenshot to be automatically named according to the window being captured (just like in Ubuntu 10.04)04:20
RJ45this is, sooo important to me, I really can't stress enough how much I need this.04:21
Poisoned_DragonI see what he wants.04:21
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: :D04:21
Poisoned_DragonBut, there doesn't seem to be a -option to create that effect.04:22
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: I know, I checked :(04:22
RJ45in Ubuntu 10.04, it just, worked :/04:22
RJ45I have Ubuntu 10.04 live .iso open in a VM right now, I can get anything from there that could help in this situation, any requests?04:23
RJ45well, the man pages are exactly the same :|04:24
Poisoned_DragonWell, ubuntu 10.04 used a different DE04:24
Poisoned_DragonSo, wasn't that a different capture tool?04:24
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: different to Xubuntu?, well yes, 'gnome-screenshot', I tried installing it on Xubuntu though, and it named the files exactly the same as the one that came with it did x_x  (xfce4-screenshooter)04:26
RJ45you see, this is where it gets quite problematic, isn't it?04:26
Poisoned_Dragonhmm... that depends.04:27
Poisoned_Dragonlemme google-fu some more.04:28
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: I can't try installing an old deprecated version of it, as of-course, that package depends on gnome-2 stuff, and gnome-2 stuff on a 12.04 system...04:29
RJ45you get the picture.04:29
RJ45BTW guys, I really, do appreciate all of your effort, despite not being able to get very far, I'm humbled by your willingness to try :)04:31
akishi. today the system asked for 2 updates (i dont remember what about) and after these updates lightning 2.6.1 (as add on of thunderbird)  doesn't work and the tab looks gray without any editing possibility. any idea of what happened?04:39
holsteinakis: could be a user config issue.. i would try (if you are not comfortable juggling config files) testing as a different user. other than that, you can try stepping back the version of thunderbird and testing04:41
RJ45akis: it's soo many problems like this resulting from updates which is why I always disable updates and all my Linux installs, they're supposed to be important for security, and even 'fix things', but all I've ever heard (and experienced) is problems.04:42
akisthunderbird works fine. just lightning is "grey". Yesterday evening everything worked perfect and i updated my data normally04:42
RJ45simply install Linux OS of your choice, disable updates, and fine-tune everything from there, that's all I'm saying.04:43
RJ45holstein: sorry for slightly straying from 'topic' just expressing a small point., sorry.04:43
akisi am pretty sure that today's 2 updates are responsible for this issue because the same issue appears to my 2nd machine after update was allowed. any idea how can i see those 2 today's updates justo to realize how they affected the syste?04:44
well_laid_lawnit will depend on what was updated04:45
well_laid_lawna new thunderbird means it's probably the addon that isn't compatible anymore04:45
akisi didnt notice. no thunderbird update.04:46
well_laid_lawntry starting thunderbird from a terminal to catch any error messages04:47
akisit starts normally. it gave the following message: [calBackendLoader] Using libical backend at /home/user/.thunderbird/ngwzktg8.default/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/components/libical.manifest04:48
akispaste04:49
akiswhen i tried to open lightning tab i got the following message in the consol http://paste.ubuntu.com/6304435/04:51
akiswell_laid_lawn: any idea about these messages?04:53
well_laid_lawnlooks like the addon isn't working right04:54
well_laid_lawna java or xulrunner update might have done it04:54
akisthat's right. but it worked perfect some hours ago. the problem appeared toady morning after those 2 damn last updates04:55
holsteinRJ45: you switched versions, and prefer functionality that is in an older version.. this is not an upgrade breakage issue04:55
akisis there any way to trace those 2 last updates?04:56
well_laid_lawnapt should have a log04:56
holsteinakis: how is it as a defferent user? to remove your user configuration from the equation04:56
akisi have not a different user profile.04:57
holsteinakis: you might want to consider either checking as a different user, or by temporarily moving the user config and testing04:58
RJ45holstein: I never said.. err, what?04:58
Poisoned_DragonRJ45, it looks like I'm striking out.04:59
RJ45holstein: I just want it to work the way I want it to work!, isn't that what Linux is all about?, having it *your way*?04:59
RJ45Poisoned_Dragon: :/04:59
holsteinRJ45: disabling updates would have no effect on you likeing something from 10.04 and running a newer version now04:59
Poisoned_DragonIt might have been a feature that was removed.04:59
Poisoned_DragonStrangely, I can't seem to find evidence that it existed04:59
RJ45holstein: I never said anything like that!04:59
holsteinRJ45: the code is all open, so you *can* have it the way you want. it just might not be "easy".. i would refer to upstream xfce04:59
RJ45holstein: what are you even talking about!?!04:59
kingbeowolfhow can i make it so the username that appears in the top right corner looks more like the gear symbol in unity?05:00
holsteinkingbeowolf: do you have a screenshot of what you are looking for?05:00
RJ45kingbeowolf: hahah, dream on05:00
RJ45¬_¬05:00
kingbeowolf:D05:00
holsteinRJ45: use the OT channel for that, please05:01
kingbeowolfI'd just like to replace my username with an icon05:01
RJ45kingbeowolf: I'd like peanut butter on my chocolate :P05:01
well_laid_lawnthat's not very constructive ...05:02
kingbeowolfi don't know how customizable xfce is05:03
kingbeowolfwas just curious if it was something some one already did05:03
kingbeowolfAre panels some kind of script file?05:03
Poisoned_DragonI have mine very tricked out05:06
Poisoned_DragonI even use Plank05:06
Poisoned_DragonWanna see a screenshot?05:06
kingbeowolfi use docky how is plank different?05:06
kingbeowolfsure05:06
Poisoned_DragonPlank is a simpler version of Docky. No widgets and suck. But, Plank will be the basis for Docky3, which will have the fancy stuff.05:07
kingbeowolfI noticed docky crashes when using ubuntu software center does plank?05:08
Poisoned_Dragonnope05:09
kingbeowolfwell thats good05:09
Poisoned_Dragonhttp://www.picpaste.com/kCLwBvWv.png05:09
kingbeowolfso far that is the only thing that crashes on xubuntu05:09
akisother users faced the same issue  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92582305:11
ubottuMozilla bug 925823 in Lightning Only "Lightning 2.6 not working with TB 24.0.1 on Linux [Failed to load native module libcalbasecomps.so: libxul.so version 'xul24.0' not found]" [Blocker,New]05:11
Poisoned_Dragondid you see, kingbeowolf?05:12
kingbeowolfthe bug report?05:13
Poisoned_Dragonno, the screen cap05:13
Poisoned_Dragonlol05:13
kingbeowolfoh ya one sec05:13
kingbeowolfthats pretty good05:15
Poisoned_Dragon:)05:15
kingbeowolfplank seems alot different05:15
kingbeowolfwhat are those black sqaures with icons in it?05:15
Poisoned_DragonOh... you can load folders in plank with shortcuts.05:16
Poisoned_DragonSo, I made folders to group certain apps together.05:16
Poisoned_DragonThe folders have symbolic links to the .desktop files.05:16
kingbeowolfi see thats cool05:17
Poisoned_Dragongives it that app drawer look05:17
kingbeowolfmy desktop looks similar05:18
Poisoned_Dragonlemme see05:18
kingbeowolfhttp://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-10252013-102539pm.php05:26
kingbeowolfPoisoned_Dragon: ^05:27
kingbeowolfsorry it took a second usually i use screen cloud05:27
akishow can i update my thunderbird version from 24.0 to 24.0.1 so i fix the issue between thunderbird and lightning as i read already. 24.0.1 is not in synaptic. i downloaded from mozilla site but what do i have to do to install it?05:27
kingbeowolfit doesn't work in 13.10 for some reason05:27
Poisoned_DragonThat's cool. But, with Plank installed, I took out my window buttons plugin05:27
Poisoned_DragonMade room for other things in my primary panel05:28
kingbeowolfyeah totally05:28
kingbeowolfi just installed xubuntu today :D05:28
Poisoned_Dragon:)05:28
kingbeowolfi was using Unity but got tired of programs crashing05:29
Poisoned_DragonWell, Docky seems cool with the widgets. You used that to your advantage by removing the clock from the panel.05:29
kingbeowolfit has a few more widgets that are ok05:30
Poisoned_DragonPart of me wanted to use Docky but, I didn't need it to be too fancy.05:30
Poisoned_DragonI wanted to keep it light05:30
kingbeowolfyou cant really get rid of the xfce panel because you still need the notification area05:30
kingbeowolfi think docky needs a widget for that or what ever plank calls it05:30
kingbeowolfthen with synapse you wouldn't even need the xfce menu either05:31
Poisoned_DragonWell.... You could make the panel smaller. Ofset the notification and indicator plugins to the end.05:32
Poisoned_DragonEven make it so that the panel doesn't even span the whole edge of the screen.05:32
Poisoned_DragonAww, crud. Now you got me thinking about my layout again.05:33
Poisoned_DragonI just got done perfecting it 2 days ago.05:33
kingbeowolfhahah05:34
Poisoned_DragonYou know what, I might make my top panel into two.05:34
kingbeowolfits like a strange obsession05:34
Poisoned_DragonSeperating my indicators and things from the app menu end.05:35
Poisoned_DragonIt is!05:35
Poisoned_DragonWay more exciting than windows. :)05:35
Poisoned_DragonI've never felt so good about a DE until xfce. Then Plank sealed the deal.05:36
kingbeowolfyeah i tried finding AWN but it hasn't been updated05:36
Poisoned_DragonAWN?05:36
kingbeowolfa lot of good apps aren't being updated any more05:37
kingbeowolfavant window manager05:37
kingbeowolfanother dock05:37
kingbeowolfit was what i used in the past05:37
Poisoned_DragonOh, I've heard of that, in passing05:37
kingbeowolfit has a lot of cool features05:38
kingbeowolfi tried to compile it but it wouldn't build05:38
kingbeowolfkeep getting dependency errors05:38
Poisoned_Dragonawww :(05:39
kingbeowolfyeah i also tried to compile the newest version or miro and it would't compile either05:39
kingbeowolfthe version or miro bundled in 13.10 is so bad i am surprised they bundled it.05:40
Poisoned_DragonI'm not a big fan of miro05:41
kingbeowolfi also used screencloud a nice screenshot program but it isn't compatible with 13.1005:41
kingbeowolfi have a few podcasts i listen to and it seemed to manage that stuff really well and predictably05:41
kingbeowolfbanshee is ok but doesn't look as pretty05:41
Poisoned_Dragonheh05:42
kingbeowolfPoisoned_Dragon: check this out http://forum.pinguyos.com/Thread-How-to-customize-Xfce-4-1005:42
Poisoned_Dragonkingbeowolf, http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-to-install-avant-window-navigator.html05:43
Poisoned_DragonIf you're feeling daring05:43
Poisoned_DragonEver looked into DockBarX?05:44
kingbeowolfnope05:44
kingbeowolfthat ppa includes ALOT of programs05:44
kingbeowolflooks like it might work though05:44
Poisoned_Dragonkingbeowolf, http://www.webupd8.org/2012/10/dockbarx-sees-new-release-now-available.html05:45
Poisoned_DragonThere's the article on dockbarx05:45
Poisoned_Dragonpick your poison05:46
Poisoned_DragonDocky is cool but, you might be longing for the avant days, or looking for something nicer.05:46
Poisoned_DragonI'm waiting for Plank to hit 1.0 so that they start pushing out Docky3.05:47
kingbeowolffor sure05:48
Poisoned_DragonI managed to contribute 2 bug reports.05:48
Poisoned_DragonThey led to fixes. :)05:49
Poisoned_DragonI'm so proud of me.05:49
kingbeowolfnice haha05:49
kingbeowolfit is always cool when something gets accepted by the community05:49
kingbeowolfi worked on packaging documentation for Ubuntu and that got accepted.05:51
kingbeowolfthats about all i have done05:51
kingbeowolfi work to much to be of any more help05:51
kingbeowolfi would definately maintain the projects i mentioned if i had the time, or got paid to do it.05:52
Poisoned_Dragonheh05:52
kingbeowolfright now i program on other peoples projects05:52
Poisoned_DragonI wish I had the mindset for programming. It just doesn't seem to be my cup of tea.05:53
Poisoned_DragonI seem to be a better tester, than a programmer.05:53
kingbeowolfprogramming for me started when i was playing games05:54
kingbeowolfBaldur's Gate have you heard of it?05:54
Poisoned_DragonSounds familiar.05:55
kingbeowolfyeah it was a D&D game i got into when I was a kid.05:55
kingbeowolfyou could control the characters and other characters in the game with a form of scripting05:55
Poisoned_DragonOh wow05:56
kingbeowolfit was pretty neat when i was like 13-15 or what ever05:56
userhow can i manually install to TB 24.0.1 over 24.0?  Ubuntu Center is still shipping Thunderbird 24.0.0 but i need to be updated.05:58
Noskcajuser, You can get a .deb from somewhere, add a PPA, or install it from source05:59
kingbeowolfive never installed thunberbird any where other then from the repository05:59
Poisoned_DragonWhat is so important that you really need that .0.1?05:59
kingbeowolfusually stuff gets updated between versions....that didn't really happen in 13.1006:00
kingbeowolfPoisoned_Dragon: i think he said the calender plugin had some issue06:00
Poisoned_Dragonoh06:00
Poisoned_DragonI don't use it. So....06:00
kingbeowolfyeah me either06:00
Noskcajkingbeowolf, It depends on who's available and if it's out in time06:00
kingbeowolfNoskcaj: ya but netbeans, eclipse, banshee, etc... seem like popular applications that would be important thats what i wish i had more time so i could make sure this stuff stays up to date and tested06:01
Noskcajkingbeowolf, You could help us with packaging them ;)06:02
kingbeowolfNoskcaj: some day i will i am sure of that gotta work like a dog to pay the bills right now though06:03
Poisoned_Dragonuser, if you're feeling daring, download the tarball from mozilla.06:03
userNoskcaj:Poisoned_Dragon:  i found it here http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and i downloaded already, but what next? i unzipped to my temporary directory.06:04
Noskcaj!source06:05
ubottuYou can easily fetch a package's source with apt-get. See: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/ch-sourcehandling.en.html06:05
Poisoned_Dragonugh, I just deleted it too....06:05
Poisoned_Dragonone sec06:05
Noskcajnope, wrong thing06:05
Noskcaj"./configure && make && sudo make install" normally works06:05
Noskcajopen a terminal from the folder06:06
Noskcajand run that06:06
Poisoned_DragonNoskcaj, there is no compiling necessary.06:06
Poisoned_DragonIt's self contained.06:06
Noskcajoh06:06
Noskcajgood06:06
userwill this manually installation affect my /home/.thunderbird configuration?06:07
Poisoned_Dragonuser, you can literally run the thunderbird executable from within that folder.06:08
Poisoned_DragonI believe there are install instruction in the thunderbird folder.06:08
Noskcajuser, no, it won't06:08
userok. thanks. i found also a deb file named: thunderbird-mozilla-build_24.0.1-0ubuntu1_i386. can i proceed with this one?06:09
Poisoned_Dragonwhere did you find that?06:09

majklhi guys, I have Xubuntu 12.04 and I would like to upgrade xfce to 4.11 whether some of you have some issues with new xfce14:12
Poisoned_DragonWell, I'm still using 4.10 on Ubuntu Studio 13.1014:14
Poisoned_DragonI didn't know there was a 4.11. I know 4.12 is on the horizon14:15
majklPoisoned_Dragon: i will go for 4.10 though... thanks14:32
vespakoenHey guys! I am trying to make a  xubuntu vagrant box via veewee (basically a VM, built with a script), veewee provides an example preseed for Ubuntu, and uses the following command after booting the installer and hitting escape a couple of times "/install/vmlinuz noapic preseed/url=http://%IP%:%PORT%/preseed.cfg", hoever, after that ran, it tells me "Could not find kernel image: /install/vmlinuz", so I am guessing it is located so14:49
vespakoenmewhere else for xubuntu, does anyone know more about this?14:49
Poisoned_Dragonwhere does the preseed.cfg file point to as the location of the kernel image?14:50
Poisoned_DragonThat would be my first place to look.14:50
vespakoenthis is my preseed: http://paste.laravel.com/11Zm/raw14:51
vespakoenthis is my veewee defenition http://paste.laravel.com/11Zn the interesting part is within "boot_cmd_sequence"14:51
vespakoenahaa, so this is probably incorrect: d-i base-installer/kernel/override-image string linux-server  ?14:52
Poisoned_Dragonis /install/vmlinuz the correct location?14:54
Poisoned_Dragonare you suppose to put your own ip and port in http://%IP%:%PORT% or is tht filled in for you?14:55
vespakoenthat is filled in for me14:55
vespakoenI guess the location is incorrect, but don't know how to figure out the correct one14:56
Poisoned_DragonI don't have much experience in this, but the logical conclusion is figuring out what points where.14:56
Poisoned_DragonI gave that override-image line a funny look too14:56
Poisoned_DragonIt was the first thing to stand out14:56
Poisoned_DragonYou might have to do some more reading before you proceed.14:57
vespakoengoing to try without it14:57

TG_hi guys, I have an issue with an HP Pavillion dm4. right click and left click works only when I soft pad it. it does not work when I fully press left click or right click. I would like to have it working when fully pressing instead of trying 10 times to get the right amount of pressure to produce a right click.17:13
TG_can anyone point me in the right direction please.17:13
holstein!touchpad17:17
ubottuFor a comprehensive Synaptics Touchpad guide, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad17:17
holsteinassuming its a synaptics touchpad.. i have a few that i just dont use anymore, or i have worked out workarounds17:18
XLVdoes the installer allows for raid1 setup directly from within the isntaller? i dont see any related option17:26
GridCubeXLV, nope17:27
GridCube!raid17:27
ubottuTips and tricks for RAID and LVM can be found on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SoftwareRAID and http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/LVM-HOWTO - For software RAID, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowto17:27
XLVGridCube so i have to use ubuntu server install iso?18:14
GridCubeXLV, or the mini18:15
XLVyou mean the network install?18:15
GridCubeand while using the mini choose the xubuntu desktop instead of the whole mainbuntu desktop, or simply install xubuntua dn install RAID afterward18:15
GridCubeXLV, yes18:15
XLVok, thanks18:15
GridCubesadly RAID support during install got lost a few releases ago18:16
XLVi'll instal the server thn add xubuntu meta pacakges18:16
GridCubeXLV, probably this will help http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=214317918:17
bekksusing the mini iso, it is still there.18:17
well_laid_lawn!mini18:17
ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want.  The installer is text based (rather than graphical as used on the Desktop DVD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD18:17
GridCubebut as XLV said, the mini is a netinstall, the server is not so its faster18:18
GridCubenot everyone has 100mb of interwebs18:18

UkeofJerseyGreets!  I've got what I hope is a quick question:  I'm in 13.10 and when I try to create new app launchers in the app menu, it doesn't matter which folder I'm in, it always makes my new launcher in "Other".  How can I remedy this?22:12
Poisoned_DragonYou can't22:17
UkeofJerseyI'm trying to make a Launcher for Chromium Incognito and at first I was tearing my hair out because it didn't look like xubuntu was doing anything at all!  I don't like to be ignored by this machine that is supposed to be working for me.  It was purely accidental that I found about 5 copies of my launcher but in the "Other" folder instead of "Internet" where any normal human being would want it.  Anyone have any ideas as to wh22:17
UkeofJerseyy the launcher isn't created in my current folder?22:17
Poisoned_DragonWhere are you making the launchers?22:18
Poisoned_DragonOr trying to make the launchers.22:18
UkeofJerseyclicking Edit Menu in the Applications Menu22:18
UkeofJerseyit brings me to the screen with a bunch of checkboxes along all the different launchers.  I was assuming that by clicking "new item" whilst in "Internet", the new item would be created there and not some other, seemingly arbitrary folder22:20
bobsleehi. upgraded raring to sauce.. now my macbook synaptics/touchpad doesn't work.. any clues?22:21
Poisoned_DragonIt doesn't seem to work that way, UkeofJersey. User made menu items might not be given a specific categorization. So, they always show up in other.22:22
UkeofJerseythat is surprising to say the least...  It doesn't seem like it's terribly much to ask, does it?22:24
bobsleeanybody?22:27
Poisoned_DragonUkeofJersey, be thankful you can add menu items at all. Xfce out of the box, on debian, doesn't have a gui for it. Gotta do it by hand.22:31
XLVGridCube you were right.. grub install on raid1 was borked23:51
XLVcomplaint about something about embedding not active then about embedding needed for lvm/raid123:52
XLVsolvable easily, from a quick search, but i prefered to use a usb stick as /boot23:53
