penguin42shauno: Scary picture of their chunk of listing00:04
shaunohah, yeah.  "still small enough to fit in one listing"00:05
penguin42shauno: I'm guessing as in one box of fanfold00:18
shaunoyaknow, I don't miss fanfold.  I had a whole tonne of paper that was green & white striped fanfold, with the perforated truck strips on the sides, in landscape00:19
shaunoand I could never, ever, convince my printer to match the line-height of those green & white lines.00:19
AlanBellsuspect I still have some in the loft00:20
ali1234man... that old fan fold paper with the green stripes on it00:20
AlanBelland a 132 column dot matrix printer00:20
ali1234shauno: yeah, exactly... what were they for anyway?00:20
shaunoI suspect it was a test for OCD00:20
AlanBellI always thought it was something to do with accountants liking them00:20
ali1234http://www.pdp8online.com/images/greenbar.shtml00:22
popeyi used to set a job going over night, if it failed it would end up with a proper mush of green/white fanfold00:30
penguin42all the fanfold I ever used was just plain white00:30
penguin42shauno: No, the OCD is what happens when you're left with a pile of fanout with detachable holes, and you gently sit there peeling them off and tearing them up. Ahem00:31

MartijnVdSmorning MooDoo09:01
dwatkinsallo allo09:01
MartijnVdSThe Nexus 5 seems to be very light on battery usage09:01
MartijnVdSJust did an hour-long run, with GPS on, and battery was still at 96%09:02
dwatkinsI gather new phones don't need to use full power for the GPS.09:03
MooDoooooo thinking of getting one of them myself09:03
MartijnVdSdwatkins: it's gotten better through the years :)09:03
MartijnVdSit also has some kind of offloading chip for sound output, lowering battery use when playing music09:03
dwatkinsah, it's an Android 4.4 feature09:03
dwatkins"The feature is designed to poll sensors less frequently on the Nexus 5, but Google is partnering with chipset makers to make it available on other devices."09:04
MartijnVdSit's full of nifty tricks :)09:04
dwatkinsI still can't believe they had to partner with Nestle, perhaps they couldn't think of a pudding beginning with 'K'.09:05
MartijnVdSdwatkins: the original name was to be "Key Lime Pie"09:05
MartijnVdSbut nobody could remember that, I guess09:05
dwatkinshaha ok09:05
dwatkinsWhat's next, Android Lion Bar?09:05
MartijnVdSwho knows :)09:05
MartijnVdSLion Bar, M&M, Nutella09:06

dwatkinsindeed09:08
MartijnVdSdwatkins: people on reddit were suggesting L to be "Lollipop" or "Lemon Meringue Pie" 8-)09:09
dwatkinsIt'll be Lion Bar, I reckon.09:10
MooDoonot sure about that, too close to osx lion09:11
MartijnVdSMooDoo: and OSX Mavericks isn't too close to Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat?09:11
dwatkinsah yes, perhaps Life Savers or Licorice Allsorts.09:12
MartijnVdS, it may contain emulsifiers such as soy lecithin and flavors such as vanilla.09:12
MartijnVdSIn most of the, it may contain emulsifiers such as soy lecithin and flavors such as vanilla.09:12

MooDooMartijnVdS: ok good point :)09:12
dwatkinspaste stuff?09:13
MartijnVdSdwatkins: Life Saver would be a great name :)09:13
dwatkinsMavericks is a silly name, as it starts an entirely new theme, when the animals one was going great.09:14
MartijnVdSthey sort of ran out of big cats09:14
dwatkinsIt's like naming your servers after Star Trek characters, then suddenly switching to constellations.09:15
MartijnVdSsure the ocelot was still available, except Ubuntu took it09:15
dwatkinsThere are plenty of more awesome creatures... http://imgur.com/r/Otters/jN93zpe09:16
MartijnVdSbut.. not cats!09:16
dwatkinsI'm working up to cats.09:16

MooDooah ok15:13
UldicsHi!15:27
AlanBellhi Uldics15:29
MooDoohello Uldics15:30
UldicsI know this is walking on edge. But simple and sincere things. I am bonified now. I wish to install Windows 7 on my Ubuntu box, just for games. I have the sticker and all the legal stuff is orrrighty. The hurdle seems to be in MS way to get people legally to their OS. It seems impossible. First I tried downloading (from official distributor) an ISO file of Win7 PRO. It would not even start installing from USB flash - it finds disks, can delete15:34
Uldicsand create a partition to install on, but when it comes to installing, then its all halfsix and nothing is possible - it can not even find its own created partition. That seems rather strange if I may only use polite words. Then I bought the obsolete form of empty media - DVD-R, burned same image to it and can install. But the legal PC can not accept the registration, the key is not good - I have Win 7 PRO OEM sticker, which has no ISOs15:34
Uldicsavailable. So it can be installed, but not registered. What a bummer. So I need an ISO editor on Ubuntu. But I can not get it, as the ISO is UDF. How can I do it, oh Lord_15:34
AlanBellcan't say I have tried to install anything newer than XP15:37
MooDoonormally I do it the other way around, install windows first then ubuntu....15:38
AlanBellperhaps the folk in ##windows could help you, it just isn't a problem we are likely to know the answer to15:38
UldicsThe problem now is to get editing UDF15:38
Uldicswindows first then ubuntu I know, the stupidest system first :D15:39
MooDoohttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=155937415:39
UldicsI have unplugged all other disks when installing W715:39
UldicsThat forum post have been on, no help15:40
Uldicsisomaster doesn help15:40
Uldicsthat is exactly what I want to do, delete that one file15:40
Uldicsbut my system only shows a txt with text that this is udf system15:41
MooDooI think you just need to "ubuntu edit udf iso" search for that in google, there are loads of pages regarding it15:42
UldicsAlanBell: The #windows people do not know anything about othe file systems than fat32 and ntfs15:42
Uldicsloads of pages, but any good? Will try now15:42
Uldicshehe, all pages been on :D :(15:43
AlanBellseems there have been a few attempts to support UDF, but not that great, and no longer really supported15:43
Uldicsok, that explains15:44
AlanBelljust not a particularly valuable problem to solve I guess15:44
AlanBellhttp://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-udf/ somewhat abandonned in 200815:44
Uldicsthen what the hell, just need to download the illegal version and keep on15:44
AlanBellhttp://www.bitwizard.nl/udf/ stopped in 199815:44
MooDooisn't downloading the iso of windows ok as long as you have a valid license?15:45
AlanBellyou would have to ask Microsoft15:46
Uldicsit is, but you can not get an image of OEM version15:46
UldicsMS says, you just buy, NOW!!!15:46
Uldicshave been on their forums15:46
MooDoowell you sholdn't need to as you mentioned you had a valid oem license...15:46
Uldicsexactly15:46
MooDoostrange....15:47
Uldicsthats why I need to manipulate their ISO to remove one file, so it accepts also OEM key15:47
Uldicsit is to mee too indeed strange15:47
Myrttiplease tell me that the roundabouuts feel not so horrible if you're driving and not the passenger16:01
MooDoo;)16:01
mungbeananyone used acetoneISO ?16:02
mungbeanUldics: might help you16:03
mungbeanAcetoneISO will let You mount typical proprietary images formats of the Windows world such as ISO BIN NRG MDF IMG and do plenty of other things.16:03
Uldicshmm, I think I have it, but it didnt help, will check right now16:09
Uldicsgot it mounted, thats a step forward16:11
Uldicsbut just after unsuccessful point and click , which gave a correct terminal command to get it16:13
Uldicsnow the question gets, how to get it changed and still bootable - it mounted it only read only16:13
UldicsI understand I can just copy files to a new folder16:14
Uldicsbut when I will try to make a new iso, it will not be 1. UDF and 2. bootable like normal W7 DVDs16:14
Uldicsor should I forget the UDF and make new bootable DVD (plain ISO) with unetbootin?16:16
AlanBellor use a real operating system :)16:17
Uldicsyes, I am using, just wanted to play some games since I have got a hold of a PC with legal sticker16:17
Uldicsand the newest games arent ready for Linux16:18
Uldicsnot that I dont like it16:18

* DJones gives up on Canonical/Ubuntu answering a question on askubuntu, basically, we've changed our policy, but have no idea how it will affect users, we haven't thought that far ahead18:20
daftykinswhat was the question?18:21
DJonesdaftykins: If you're using 12.10 how will you upgrade in February 2014 & onwards, 13.04 goes EOL in January 2014, but 12.10 not until April 2014, so if you use 12.10 and don't upgrade to 14.04 before January and then to 13.10, how will you upgrade in future?18:23
shaunohopefully the answer is a nice simple "we won't turf 13.04 off the mirrors the moment it's EOL, so you can upgrade to one and then the other"18:24
daftykinsdon't the repos stay available, just slightly more awkward to update with? when a release goes EOL18:24
DJonesThats what you would hope, but trying to get somebody to confirm it is impossible18:25
shaunothey stay available on old-releases.u.c, but they're rarely expired off the main mirrors the moment they're EOL18:25
DJonesAnswers so far have been to manually amend your sources list to oldreleases etc, but for the new/inexperienced users thats not a good reply18:26
shaunousually it's a few months later when people who meant to upgrade but put it on the backburner completely forget about it, and then act surprised when apt-get goes blank18:26
DJonesshauno: Yeah, but 3 months?18:26
daftykinshehehe18:26
DJonesI honestly don't think the people who decided to reduce lifespans actually though the consequences through18:27
DJonesIts a one off, won't happen against after 12.10, but, now is too late to be making a decision about it18:27
daftykinsi still come from the old school thinking that 'upgrades' are risky and go funny :D18:29
daftykinsbut then i don't run Ubuntu on the desktop anywhere really, that would give me any exposure to how well it works18:29
shaunoI only have ubuntu-desktop in VMs, where it tends to get delete because it's boring, long before it needs upgrading19:16
diddledaneww @ pink re: the hello kitty keyboard from earlier19:33
diddledanthe keyboard doesn't offend me other than that and the azerty layout19:33
