TrabbleHello anyone who's around. I'm having serious problems with the wifi-network manager on lubuntu. I was able to connect via wifi to my school's network once, but now it just forever spins and occasionally asks for the password again (I know the password is right, it's how my desktop and phone are connected to the same network)00:22
Trabbleis there a way to get this to run in a terminal so I can try to troubleshoot it00:23
Trabble(I've figured out that using service network-manager stop will let me start it from a terminal, but it doesn't keep the process open to show me any kind of erros)00:25
Trabbleah. it was beecause I'm using PEAP and it didn't have a certificate. changing the cert file =false in the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/APName fixed it.00:40

orion6596is there a way for me to tell if skype is playing back my microphone?02:03
geniiI believe they have a test line you can call02:04
IAmNotThatGuyUmmm, I don't know much about skype :[02:04
orion6596once it starts to dial the test line the blarring starts02:04
orion6596hmm02:04
* ianorlin hasn't used skype yet on lubuntu02:04
genii"Echo123" or some such, i think02:04
* IAmNotThatGuy never had a need to use in lubuntu ;P02:04
IAmNotThatGuygenii, you are the boss now ;]02:05

orion6596http://askubuntu.com/questions/157891/skype-and-vlc-sounds-sizzle-distorted-bad/201747#20174702:07
orion6596I am trying to follow those instructions but I cant find the line that he is talking about02:08
IAmNotThatGuyIf you don't have a line with load-module module-hal-detect, then search for following line:02:10
IAmNotThatGuymentioned in that post itself ;]02:10
orion6596It wont let me save the document it says i have no permission02:12
orion6596err denied02:12
IAmNotThatGuysudo gedit /etc/pulse/default.pa02:12
IAmNotThatGuyin terminal and that will give you root access02:13
Unit193*gksudo *leafpad02:13
IAmNotThatGuyif you are a vi fan, replace gedit with vi ;)02:13
IAmNotThatGuyerm sowwie02:13
orion6596I don't know what that means?02:13
IAmNotThatGuyorion6596, try gksudo leafpad /etc/pulse/default.pa02:13
orion6596does that go into the temrinal  thing02:13
orion6596Oh cool it opened02:14
* IAmNotThatGuy hugs Unit193, the savior 02:14
ianorlinyes and it launches leafpad with root access to edit the file in /etc/pulse/default.pa02:14
orion6596alright restarting hopefully this works :D02:17
orion6596Jesus this is much more complicated than I thought XD02:17
IAmNotThatGuy;D02:18

IAmNotThatGuyOne more? ;P02:23
orion6596_I am using a PS3eye to record sound on windows, on ubuntu it doesn't seem to register the micrphone02:23
orion6596_I see the webcam, but the audio even tho it shows up in pulse is not picking up on skype.02:24
orion6596_Is there a tool like a sound recorder that I can use to test the webcam to make sure its not system wide and just with skype?02:24
IAmNotThatGuyI would suggest you to check with google hangouts (it is not the best option though)02:25
ianorlinor can you use arecord -l to see if the microphone is detected02:26
orion6596_it does appear on arecord -l02:27
ianorlinwhat kind of microphone is it?02:27

ZeThomashey, does lubuntu have somewhere the same interface for installing/dealing with 'Additional Drivers'?17:08
ZeThomasthat would be very handy...17:14
yamoonsunI installed iTunes using wine with little luck, and after removing the program I'm stuck with a start-menu entry. How do I remove it.19:40
wxlyamoonsun: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/EditingTheMenu19:41
wxlyamoonsun: also, why did you want to use itunes? i could perhaps suggest another alternative (i trust you don't just want a music player)19:42
yamoonsunNot in particular, no; I have a client who wants to make their store computer faster, but I noticed they used iTunes to stream music from their iPod over the store speakers.19:44
yamoonsunUsing Audacious atm19:44
wxlyamoonsun: those speakers aren't plugged into the computer are they?19:45
yamoonsunI believe they are plugged into the back of the computer, yes.19:48
wxlfloola could do it19:48
wxlnot sure it's faster19:48
wxlaTunes19:50
wxl(ew java)19:50
wxlbanshee, exaile19:50
yamoonsunIf I was less mainstream I'm sure I'd agree with you; I'm not a super coder or anything.19:51
yamoonsunBy any means.19:51
wxlum, none of the above requires you to be a developer19:51
yamoonsunShould remote connect to my PC via Teamviewer and assist me with this start menu; I'm sure you'll have it done in seconds.19:52
wxloh!19:52
wxlamarok can do it19:52
wxlthat's a decent program19:52
Unit193Look in ~/.local/share/applications/ for it.19:52
yamoonsunEven if it was installed using Wine?19:53
wxlTeamViewer? phew, just ssh19:53
yamoonsunI dunno how, but sounds coo.19:53
wxli can't remember if sshd is installed by default…19:53
Unit193(Wine of course will be under ~/.local/share/applications/wine/)19:53
Unit193wxl: Nope.19:53
wxl!info ssh19:54
ubottussh (source: openssh): secure shell client and server (metapackage). In component main, is optional. Version 1:6.2p2-6 (saucy), package size 1 kB, installed size 29 kB19:54

wxl↑ install that yamoonsun19:54
wxlone of those :/19:54
wxlthen you can just ssh your_username_on_remote_machine@remote_machine19:54
wxlthen you can just play in the terminal as if you were in front of the computer19:55
wxlanyways, amarok should solve your ipod issues cleanly19:55
wxloh wait19:55
yamoonsunWhat's the apt-get for it?19:56
wxlthat's all kde crap19:56
wxlnevermind19:56
yamoonsunlmxe looks kde enough to me19:56
bioterrorKDE <319:58
yamoonsunAny music production software for gnu/linux?19:58
bioterroryamoonsun, depends what you want to do19:58
bioterrorI've been using hydrogen for drums and ardour for multitracking19:58
yamoonsunWell, something similar to FL Studio, seeing as how that's what I'm currently used to. Synth Pianos would be nice.19:59
bioterrorholstein knows more about those stuff20:00
Unit193Yes he does, as does #opensourcemusicians, and perhaps #ubuntustudio.20:02
yamoonsunCheers20:08
yamoonsunI also got that program removed from my start menu, cheers again.20:08
yamoonsunAmarok is software or a user?20:08
wxlyamoonsun: amarok is software but it has tons of kde requirements, so you don't want it20:08
wxlkind of inconsistent with lubuntu20:08
wxlsorry, i use kubuntu at work and get confused sometimes :)20:09
Viprozhi20:09
wxl!info gtkpod20:10
ubottugtkpod (source: gtkpod): manage songs and playlists on an Apple iPod. In component universe, is extra. Version 2.1.3-5 (saucy), package size 341 kB, installed size 954 kB20:10
wxlhey look at that yamoonsun20:10
Unit193wxl: That other one I said is a fork of an older version, and only deps on qt rather than KDE.20:10
yamoonsunOnce installed iPhone should work?20:10
wxlhaven't used it, but…20:10
wxlUnit193: i missed that, which one?20:10
wxlcuz amarok is really nice!20:10
Unit193!info clementine20:11
ubottuclementine (source: clementine): modern music player and library organizer. In component universe, is optional. Version 1.1.1+dfsg-2ubuntu1 (saucy), package size 5055 kB, installed size 12469 kB20:11
wxlTHAT is a amarok fork?!20:12
wxlc++ too, nice20:14
wxlfloola is java from what i remember. bane of my existence20:14
wxlclementine is pretty darn cool. you should get that, yamoonsun20:15
Unit193Hah, well someone I know likes it a bit.20:15
wxlamarok uses gtkpod for ipod management (i.e. to grok the dumb apple database), so i'm guessing clementine does, too20:16
yamoonsunWell, just wondering, but did Lubuntu go and make itself a second swap partition? http://i.imgur.com/npsEtCZ.png20:18
yamoonsunAnd that will work to access iPhones? I need to restore them and whatnot.20:18
wxlhmmm restoring iphones? that might be asking for a lot20:19
wxlask apple to make a linux version of itunes20:19
Unit193Hah, yer funnah.20:19
wxlthat's what i thought20:20
yamoonsunSo they might be better off sticking with Windows then?20:20
yamoonsunCurrently I'm duel booting, but if I remove Lubuntu and the swap partition, is the grub loader going to get stuck again?20:21
wxlno, but windows/os x will handle restoring iphones20:21
yamoonsunWell ffs20:23
yamoonsunAlso, what about grub? Does it auto remove?20:26
Unit193Nope, but in windows recovery you should be able to  fixmbr  or  fixboot  or whatever that command was, done it before.  Just need to reinstall the Windows MBR.20:28
yamoonsunDoes transmission accept magnet links?20:28
yamoonsunI tried that previously but I was stuck with grub for whatever reason =/20:28
yamoonsunEver take a look at that screenshot? Did lubuntu make a 2nd swap?20:34
Unit193zram is a bit different.20:34
Unit193yamoonsun: lsblk in terminal may show you better.20:35
yamoonsunIt's a tad bit confusing. Here's the screencap http://i.imgur.com/Qr2C8Y4.png20:42
Unit1938.6G swap?  Heh.  OK, so it's telling you that you have sda (and the layout), sr0, zram0, and zram1 as disks.  sr0 is your dvd or cd rom drive, and zram are "virtual" ram blocks.20:48
yamoonsunWhy is sda3 1k and in use? Is it hosting the virtual ram? If so, why create/list sda5?20:50
Unit193I'd say that's the start of the "extended" partition.20:51
yamoonsunIt's bothersome is all, I wish it would just list it as a single partition.20:53
abradleyI've installed rsync via synaptic but how do I run it?20:53
yamoonsunI imagine via terminal20:54
Unit193rsync -avhP backup.txz abradley@8.8.8.8:~/backups/20:54
Unit193!rsync20:54

Unit193ZeThomas: Software Sources > Additional Drivers.22:41
Unit193ZeThomas: Or from a terminal:  software-properties-gtk --open-tab=422:41
ZeThomasUnit193, thanks. How can I get it to show the drivers I require for my nvidia card though? The Ubuntu pages make it sound like it's just handed to you in their interface...22:45
Unit193The interface of that application should show you the drivers, yes.22:45
ZeThomasthey don't, nothing shows up there.22:46
ZeThomasAll I get is: 'No additional drivers available'22:47
ZeThomasCould it be because there is also onboard Intel graphics? I'm having enourmous trouble getting my videocard working...22:48
Unit193http://i.stack.imgur.com/WirsA.png should be what you see.  Are you sure your drivers work with it?22:48
yamoonsunMicrosoft Lifecam detected, but won't broadcast audio.22:52
ZeThomasUnit193, I see for a second: 'searching for drivers...' and then in the middle of a grey rectangle (where your screenshot has the bullets): No additional drivers available22:55
Unit193But your NVIDIA device does show up in  lspci  ?22:55
Unit193!nv22:55
