[00:22] Hello anyone who's around. I'm having serious problems with the wifi-network manager on lubuntu. I was able to connect via wifi to my school's network once, but now it just forever spins and occasionally asks for the password again (I know the password is right, it's how my desktop and phone are connected to the same network) [00:23] is there a way to get this to run in a terminal so I can try to troubleshoot it [00:25] (I've figured out that using service network-manager stop will let me start it from a terminal, but it doesn't keep the process open to show me any kind of erros) [00:40] ah. it was beecause I'm using PEAP and it didn't have a certificate. changing the cert file =false in the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/APName fixed it. [01:31] Hello I am having issues with my sound card not being registered in ALSA === lorenzo is now known as Guest16658 [01:31] Hello I am having audio issues in lubuntu 13.10 [01:32] I am not able to access my sound card [01:32] It was working in ubuntu just fine, I don't really know how to fix this. [01:32] I looked at the listed devices in the ALSA mixer and it is not appearing, but it is appearing in my hardward tool [01:38] ??? [01:41] Guest16658, can you try installing pulseaudio and pavucontrol and check whether it works? [01:41] sure :D thanks for the reply [01:41] thats sudo-apt get install pulseaudio in the LXterminal [01:42] KInda new to all this [01:42] sudo apt-get install [01:44] alright its been installed [01:45] Do i click on pulseaudio in my soundsettings? [01:45] you installed them both? [01:45] correct [01:45] If you are not able to click unmute in the volume control displayed, I believe a restart is required [01:46] alright ill restart [01:46] Okies.. Will wait for you [01:58] Hi [01:58] I got my sound settings working now the problem is a buzzing noise that is coming from my speakers [01:59] Did you try altering settings in volume control ? [02:00] Actually I think I just found the problem. [02:00] When I closed skype it stopped [02:00] hmm [02:00] THis is all very exciting [02:01] lol [02:02] Yeah everytime I use skype I get this blarring noise [02:03] is there a way for me to tell if skype is playing back my microphone? [02:04] I believe they have a test line you can call [02:04] Ummm, I don't know much about skype :[ [02:04] once it starts to dial the test line the blarring starts [02:04] hmm [02:04] * ianorlin hasn't used skype yet on lubuntu [02:04] "Echo123" or some such, i think [02:04] * IAmNotThatGuy never had a need to use in lubuntu ;P [02:05] genii, you are the boss now ;] [02:05] IAmNotThatGuy: Just putting it out there for consideration :) [02:07] http://askubuntu.com/questions/157891/skype-and-vlc-sounds-sizzle-distorted-bad/201747#201747 [02:08] I am trying to follow those instructions but I cant find the line that he is talking about [02:10] If you don't have a line with load-module module-hal-detect, then search for following line: [02:10] mentioned in that post itself ;] [02:12] It wont let me save the document it says i have no permission [02:12] err denied [02:12] sudo gedit /etc/pulse/default.pa [02:13] in terminal and that will give you root access [02:13] *gksudo *leafpad [02:13] if you are a vi fan, replace gedit with vi ;) [02:13] erm sowwie [02:13] I don't know what that means? [02:13] orion6596, try gksudo leafpad /etc/pulse/default.pa [02:13] does that go into the temrinal thing [02:14] Oh cool it opened [02:14] * IAmNotThatGuy hugs Unit193, the savior [02:14] yes and it launches leafpad with root access to edit the file in /etc/pulse/default.pa [02:17] alright restarting hopefully this works :D [02:17] Jesus this is much more complicated than I thought XD [02:18] ;D [02:22] Hi [02:22] I am back [02:22] good news [02:22] SOund is working!!!!! [02:22] Cool... Glad that it worked :] [02:23] Thanks guys. One last thing [02:23] One more? ;P [02:23] I am using a PS3eye to record sound on windows, on ubuntu it doesn't seem to register the micrphone [02:24] I see the webcam, but the audio even tho it shows up in pulse is not picking up on skype. [02:24] Is there a tool like a sound recorder that I can use to test the webcam to make sure its not system wide and just with skype? [02:25] I would suggest you to check with google hangouts (it is not the best option though) [02:26] or can you use arecord -l to see if the microphone is detected [02:27] it does appear on arecord -l [02:27] what kind of microphone is it? [17:14] that would be very handy... [19:40] I installed iTunes using wine with little luck, and after removing the program I'm stuck with a start-menu entry. How do I remove it. [19:41] yamoonsun: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/EditingTheMenu [19:42] yamoonsun: also, why did you want to use itunes? i could perhaps suggest another alternative (i trust you don't just want a music player) [19:44] Not in particular, no; I have a client who wants to make their store computer faster, but I noticed they used iTunes to stream music from their iPod over the store speakers. [19:44] Using Audacious atm [19:45] yamoonsun: those speakers aren't plugged into the computer are they? [19:48] I believe they are plugged into the back of the computer, yes. [19:48] floola could do it [19:48] not sure it's faster [19:50] aTunes [19:50] (ew java) [19:50] banshee, exaile [19:51] If I was less mainstream I'm sure I'd agree with you; I'm not a super coder or anything. [19:51] By any means. [19:51] um, none of the above requires you to be a developer [19:52] Should remote connect to my PC via Teamviewer and assist me with this start menu; I'm sure you'll have it done in seconds. [19:52] oh! [19:52] amarok can do it [19:52] that's a decent program [19:52] Look in ~/.local/share/applications/ for it. [19:53] Even if it was installed using Wine? [19:53] TeamViewer? phew, just ssh [19:53] I dunno how, but sounds coo. [19:53] i can't remember if sshd is installed by default… [19:53] (Wine of course will be under ~/.local/share/applications/wine/) [19:53] wxl: Nope. [19:56] that's all kde crap [19:56] nevermind [19:56] lmxe looks kde enough to me [19:58] KDE <3 [19:58] Any music production software for gnu/linux? [19:58] yamoonsun, depends what you want to do [19:58] I've been using hydrogen for drums and ardour for multitracking [19:59] Well, something similar to FL Studio, seeing as how that's what I'm currently used to. Synth Pianos would be nice. [20:00] holstein knows more about those stuff [20:02] Yes he does, as does #opensourcemusicians, and perhaps #ubuntustudio. [20:08] Cheers [20:08] I also got that program removed from my start menu, cheers again. [20:08] Amarok is software or a user? [20:08] yamoonsun: amarok is software but it has tons of kde requirements, so you don't want it [20:08] kind of inconsistent with lubuntu [20:09] sorry, i use kubuntu at work and get confused sometimes :) [20:09] hi [20:10] !info gtkpod [20:10] gtkpod (source: gtkpod): manage songs and playlists on an Apple iPod. [20:10] Once installed iPhone should work? [20:10] haven't used it, but… [20:10] Unit193: i missed that, which one? [20:10] cuz amarok is really nice! [20:14] c++ too, nice [20:14] floola is java from what i remember. bane of my existence [20:15] clementine is pretty darn cool. you should get that, yamoonsun [20:15] Hah, well someone I know likes it a bit. [20:16] amarok uses gtkpod for ipod management (i.e. to grok the dumb apple database), so i'm guessing clementine does, too [20:18] Well, just wondering, but did Lubuntu go and make itself a second swap partition? http://i.imgur.com/npsEtCZ.png [20:18] And that will work to access iPhones? I need to restore them and whatnot. [20:19] hmmm restoring iphones? that might be asking for a lot [20:19] ask apple to make a linux version of itunes [20:19] Hah, yer funnah. [20:20] that's what i thought [20:20] So they might be better off sticking with Windows then? [20:21] Currently I'm duel booting, but if I remove Lubuntu and the swap partition, is the grub loader going to get stuck again? [20:21] no, but windows/os x will handle restoring iphones [20:23] Well ffs [20:26] Also, what about grub? Does it auto remove? [20:28] Nope, but in windows recovery you should be able to fixmbr or fixboot or whatever that command was, done it before. Just need to reinstall the Windows MBR. [20:28] Does transmission accept magnet links? [20:28] I tried that previously but I was stuck with grub for whatever reason =/ [20:34] Ever take a look at that screenshot? Did lubuntu make a 2nd swap? [20:34] zram is a bit different. [20:35] yamoonsun: lsblk in terminal may show you better. [20:42] It's a tad bit confusing. Here's the screencap http://i.imgur.com/Qr2C8Y4.png [20:48] 8.6G swap? Heh. OK, so it's telling you that you have sda (and the layout), sr0, zram0, and zram1 as disks. sr0 is your dvd or cd rom drive, and zram are "virtual" ram blocks. [20:50] Why is sda3 1k and in use? Is it hosting the virtual ram? If so, why create/list sda5? [20:51] I'd say that's the start of the "extended" partition. [20:53] It's bothersome is all, I wish it would just list it as a single partition. [20:53] I've installed rsync via synaptic but how do I run it? [20:54] I imagine via terminal [20:54] rsync -avhP backup.txz abradley@8.8.8.8:~/backups/ [20:54] !rsync [20:54] rsync is a fast remote file copy and synchronization program - For more see: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/rsync [20:55] yamoonsun: gparted may make more sense to you? The Ubuntu pages make it sound like it's just handed to you in their interface... [22:45] The interface of that application should show you the drivers, yes. [22:46] they don't, nothing shows up there. [22:47] All I get is: 'No additional drivers available' [22:48] Could it be because there is also onboard Intel graphics?
