adyzx | hope it ain't off-topic, but looking for a robust gui email client for lubuntu | 04:03 |
---|---|---|
adyzx | any suggestions? | 04:03 |
adyzx | tried mutt but the learning curve is a bit steep for me right now :) | 04:04 |
Unit193 | sylpheed, thunderbird, geary, alpine, etc. Mutt is technically TUI (as is alpine.) | 04:06 |
Unit193 | claws-mail exists too, but it's somehow related in sylpheed in some way, IIRC. | 04:07 |
adyzx | Unit193: will read up. what's your fav client? | 04:09 |
Unit193 | I use either alpine or gmail, though thunderbird isn't bad, just heavy. | 04:09 |
adyzx | Unit193: yes. I see geary uses gnome | 04:10 |
Unit193 | I didn't like the UI either, too basic so isn't for me. | 04:10 |
adyzx | Unit193: looking at screenshots claws-mail UI looks sharp. | 04:12 |
adyzx | Unit193: sticking with lubuntu's default for now: sylpheed | 04:15 |
adyzx | Unit193: thanks | 04:15 |
Unit193 | Alrighty-o. | 04:15 |

Ryoshia | I was using http://andym3.wordpress.com/projects/the-broadcom-wireless-card-guide/ to get my wireless card up and running and it tells me that b4=fwcutter isn't a command | 20:29 |
Ryoshia | b4-fwcutter* | 20:29 |
genii | b43 | 20:31 |
Ryoshia | doh will try that real fast | 20:40 |
Ryoshia | sudo: b43-fwcutter command not found | 20:44 |
Ryoshia | is what was said | 20:44 |
Ryoshia | Every other command worked up until that one | 20:46 |
genii | Ryoshia: What says the result of: apt-cache policy b43-fwcutter | 20:46 |
Ryoshia | unable to locate package | 20:47 |
Unit193 | It's in main, is this a new install, and it is actually lubuntu? | 20:48 |
Ryoshia | yeah it's Lubuntu on a Dell Vostro A90.. | 20:49 |
Ryoshia | the Wireless didn't work so I have to get the drivers enable which is kind of tough to do without Ethernet | 20:49 |
Unit193 | Yes, I've done it before. So, b43-fwcutter isn't installed by default, but it's on the live CD as a deb, and it should be in the repo (apt-cache policy b43-fwcutter), I suppose maybe since you haven't run apt-get update somehow it's very minimal. | 20:50 |
Ryoshia | so you mean I'll have to plug the Live USB in and type apt-get update? | 20:53 |
Unit193 | Not quite, the file is under pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/b43-fwcutter_017-2_amd64.deb | 20:54 |
Ryoshia | WOOHOO it worked! | 20:59 |
Unit193 | I'm lazy, I have a firmware-b43 package. :P | 21:00 |
Unit193 | (Also great for backup, in case something happens.) | 21:00 |
ianorlin | is it on alt installer as a deb? | 21:17 |
Unit193 | Should be. | 21:18 |
Ryoshia | I doubt much will happen I was doing this for a guy that comes into burger king all the time | 21:18 |
Ryoshia | he's an old guy and was using Ubuntu 8.04 and wanted something more up to date | 21:19 |
Ryoshia | I couldn't put Ubuntu 12.04 on his computer because it only have like five gigs of HDD space.. -_- | 21:19 |
Unit193 | Erm, well then. | 21:20 |
Ryoshia | kind of depressing if you ask me.. | 21:20 |
