=== mkv is now known as m4v
=== Gorgothzilla is now known as Vinylourson
enchieIts a DLINK DWA-510 wireless adapter, lspci shows the firmware to be RaLink Rt2561/RT61 and where it says Capabilities it states <access denied> anyone know where i move forward from here?12:22
enchieI really just dont know how to use this thing (as i've never tried before)12:22
enchieanyone?12:24
enchiehello?12:25
enchieCan anyone help?12:35
enchieSo does anyone know how to setup a wireless adapter (pci)?12:41
enchieIf i go to LXDE Menu -> Preference -> Network Connections and there is only Wired Connection there, does it mean my wireless adapter needs drivers?12:47
enchieThis is really urgent :(12:49
enchieCan someone atleast respond with idk, I skeptical that my messages are even going through :/12:51
enchie#testing# earth to lubuntu IRC can anyone see this?!?!?12:53
enchieCan anyone see this?12:55
robford1Hi all, quick question. I love Lubuntu but want a few more desktop effects. Would you reccomend Compiz, Kwin or Gala?? got a fairly decent PC with nvidia graphics card.16:27
geniiThe only one of the three which you could use and still keep the Lubuntu desktop pretty much as-is would be Compiz16:31
holsteinand, i find, compiz upstream is catered, or was catering to unity16:42
holsteinoh.. gone anyways..16:42
leszekhi17:02
ibere_SProbford1, I've just posted some videos at Lubuntu Facebook group showing some Lubuntu with eyecandy: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185670117:07
ibere_SProbford1, one more: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=214446817:07

robford1Great thanks:D17:10
DeugsyHello17:40
Flazerhowdy17:40
DeugsyCould you help me about the compilation of Lubuntu kernel 3.11.0 ?17:40
DeugsyPlease17:40
Deugsydon't be afraid it's a simple question17:41
FlazerI don't have the experience to help with that, hopefully someone else chimes in17:41
Deugsyok17:41
FlazerI've never compiled anything17:41
Deugsytoo bad17:41
holsteinDeugsy: why are you compiling a kernel?17:41
DeugsyI want to hard compile nvidiafb driver for framebuffer17:42
Deugsyi already did it on another kernel17:42
holsteinDeugsy: you should be able to just go get whatever kernel you want and use it.. if you "already did it", then just use that kernel17:42
DeugsyDo you know if it is possible to start again the compilation after an error just when it stopped ?17:45
Deugsyto avoid to recompile all it was done17:46
holsteinDeugsy: you shouldnt need to compile, or recompile.. if you have a kernel that you have already done, you can use it17:46
DeugsyI compiled kernel 2.6?? and it was okay, i understand17:47
Deugsythanks17:48
FuqUmisthow do you increase and decrease the brightness of the monitor20:03
leszekFuqUmist: if you have xfce4-powermanager running the notebook/laptops fn-keys should work20:17
FuqUmistleszek yeah those keys work, but it is still too bright20:20
holsteinFuqUmist: are you sure thats all there is to it? thats the way to adjust.. i have occasonally passed kernel arguments to help brighten the screen a bit20:25
FuqUmistalso, does anyone experience file manager crashes sometimes when not clicking fast enough on the file?20:38
holsteinFuqUmist: nooo20:38
holsteinno*20:38
holsteinthe speed of clicking never has anything to do with anything in any filemanager for me20:38
wxlmaybe you should try clicking REALLY slow, holstein20:41
leszekFuqUmist: so on the lowest brightness level it still too bright you think ?20:42
FuqUmistyeah20:42
leszekFuqUmist: can you set the brightness when in bios ? Maybe if you set this to lowest there it might stick until lubuntu is booted20:43
leszekIf this does not work then I guess there might be a driver issue with the kernels driver. It is possible as the driver covers usually different panels that there is no specific driver for your particulary panel so it uses safe settings which tend to work for every20:44
leszekYou could try experimenting with xgamma to try set the gamma lower. This will lead to a darker overall image but won't change the lcd brightness in terms of power usage20:45
leszekTry for example xgamma -gamma 0.8  (type in a terminal and hit enter)20:46
* holstein agrees with looking into the driver20:52
xstefenHi, running Lubuntu 13.10 x64, I cannot get 'ping' to resolve Windows NetBIOS names, at all..22:48
holsteinxstefen: does anything on your network?22:49
holsteindoes ping work to the IP address?22:49
xstefenyes, pinging to IP works22:50
xstefenjust not hostname/netbios name22:50
holsteinwhat do you need to do?22:50
xstefenive installed winbind and edited nsswitch.conf and smb.conf22:50
xstefenits worked on every ubuntu like setup ive done before, until trying this. I would like to for instance, "ping kelly-pc" to get IP address or if they're offline etc22:51
xstefenon our local network22:51
Unit193Did you try kelly-pc.local ?22:51
xstefenalso unknown host22:52
holsteinxstefen: i do that with a local name server22:52
xstefenRight, but theres ~75 PCs here, and I havent had this issue in the past22:52
holsteinthis is the only machine on the network that cant ping to host names?22:53
xstefenYes, since i installed Lubuntu 13.1022:53
xstefenOn my Xubuntu 13.04 partition it works fine, same with my mint and ubuntu setups22:53
xstefenAll machines except for mine and the servers are Windows22:53
Unit193Great, now I wonder what I installed to get that...22:53
xstefenI'm seriously stumped, I've done anything and everything I could find/think of/have done before22:54
xstefenand it just wont work22:54
holsteinxstefen: all dynamic ip's?22:55
Unit193You did restart the service I'd presume?22:55
xstefenI have restarted services and rebooted as well22:56
xstefenAll machines on network are either Static or DHCP22:56
holsteinxstefen: and this on in particular? is it static?22:57
xstefenI'm currently DHCP22:57
holsteinxstefen: you cant ping *any* of them?22:57
xstefenNope, unknown host22:57
xstefenWhat's funny is, if i open pacman and smb://namegoeshere, that works fine22:58
Unit193dpkg -S /usr/sbin/nmbd /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba322:58
Unit193samba: /usr/sbin/nmbd22:58
Unit193samba-common-bin: /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba322:58
xstefenI have same return on that22:58
Unit193nmblookup kelly-pc  gives you what?22:59
xstefenstefen@itnix-lubuntu:~$ nmblookup kelly-pc22:59
xstefenquerying kelly-pc on 192.168.255.25522:59
xstefen192.168.5.26 kelly-pc<00>22:59

Unit193And you did say you put the right workgroup in smb.conf, welp.  Can't say I know why it even works for me, I don't use the dang thing.23:02
xstefenYeah I have wins support enabled and workgroup changed and ufw to allow netbios and wins added to hosts in nsswitch and everything lol23:03
xstefenThis is sad, everything else in Lu 13.10 is beautiful and amazing, but this is a killer for me lol23:03
xstefenbrb cig23:03
Unit193I can confirm it does indeed work in 13.10, though not sure how. :D23:03
xstefenI wonder if something didn't install right for some reason23:08
xstefenFirst time I haven't been able to fix this23:08
holsteinhttp://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DHCP/x369.html maybe23:09
Unit193apt-get purge && apt-get install  :P23:09
holsteinoption netbios-name-servers 192.168.1.1;23:10
xstefenstefen@itnix-lubuntu:~$ ping foxserver223:10
xstefenping: unknown host foxserver223:10
xstefenstefen@itnix-lubuntu:~$ ping fileserver23:10
xstefenping: unknown host fileserver23:10
xstefenstefen@itnix-lubuntu:~$ ping linuxmysql23:10
xstefenping: unknown host linuxmysql23:10
xstefennot even our *nix servers...23:10
xstefeni purged and reinstalled winbind23:10
holsteinthe one machine seems to not be getting names from a name server23:10
Unit193xstefen: Well, that doesn't work on mine, but haven't tried to enable it.  I need to prepend .local23:11
xstefenwinbind and adding wins to hosts in nsswitch, IN THE PAST, will allow u to ping without .local23:11
Unit193Ah, yeah.  That does do it.23:13
xstefenholstein, /etc/dhcpd.conf doesnt exist on my machine, not sure where to check that option23:13
xstefenUnit193, :)23:13
xstefenfrom a windows machine, i can ping this one lol23:14
holsteinxstefen: i would check by creating whatever is needed to reference a name server on your network, and ask for names23:14
Unit193dhclient for me is requesting netbios-name-servers,23:15
Unit193grep -ve ^# /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf23:15
holsteinxstefen: can you check and see if your's is?23:15
xstefenusing that command, it says that it is also23:16
Unit193Then I'd also check the files under /var/lib/NetworkManager/23:18
xstefen3 lease files, a .conf, a NetworkManager.state, and timestamps23:34
xstefenconf and 3 lease files are for my eth023:34
xstefenbrb testing something23:38
Unit193holstein: You got any ideas? :P23:41
holsteinim the kind of guy who loads up a live CD and tests..23:42
xstefenno luck :\23:45
Unit193OK, I have no idea what to tell you (clearly), fresh out of ideas.23:45
Unit193I think it's time to try #ubuntu23:45
xstefenThanks for trying to man, really appreciate it23:47
Unit193Sorry I'm of no use. :P23:47
xstefenMe too! :(23:48
