LegendarioHi, I've made a simple package and uploaded to my ppa. I'd like some feedback. Can anyone help me? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/117332713:24
ubottuUbuntu bug 1173327 in Ubuntu "[needs-packaging] fonts-oflb-gnutypewriter" [Wishlist,Fix committed]13:25
cjwatsonLegendario: I suggest going through the Debian Fonts Team and getting it into Debian13:25
cjwatsonThey're fairly active AFAIK13:25
Legendariocjwatson, any useful url? I'm more used to the ubuntu community13:26
cjwatsonI guess https://wiki.debian.org/Fonts is a good place to start13:27
cjwatsonLinks to the fonts packaging policy, the alioth project, etc.13:28
cjwatsonhttps://wiki.debian.org/Fonts/PackagingPolicy13:28
Legendariocjwatson, hum... cool. I'll take a look at that13:29
Legendariocjwatson, how is the policy for new packages? Do they strictly need to get into debian first or can they make the opposite way?13:35
cjwatsonLegendario: They don't *strictly*, but we strongly encourage them to go into Debian first.13:36
cjwatsonIf they do then (a) that benefits more people and (b) they will automatically get into Ubuntu without any extra review being required.13:37
sreedeviHello, I am working on a minor bug in launchpad, I submitted a proposal to merge my branch to the main branch. This is pending for review, Could anyone please help me with this?14:23
maprerihypera1r: do you want to upload the fixed nautilus-dropbox package to saucy-proposed? (I subscribed the sponsors anyway)14:48
mitya57Mirv: do you have anything against /me uploading a qtsensors merge with Debian (5.1.1-2ubuntu1)?14:54
mitya57I need the renamed -dev package for my PyQt5 sync14:54
mitya57oops, wrong channel14:54
hypera1rmapreri: eh yeah sure15:44

Legendariohi, since ubuntu recommends people to submit packages to debian, in order to get them into Ubuntu, is it possible to use a PPA to test the Debian builds?17:01
mitya57Legendario: PPAs don't always match the Debian environment, it's better to use a tool like pbuilder for that17:04
Legendariomitya57, do you know if I can mix ubuntu and debian control files like I do to make multiples packages for diferent dists. Eg. saucy, raring, etc.17:07
mitya57Legendario: I don't understand the question. You of course can put whatever you want in the changelog, and control files are independent of the distro.17:15
Legendariomitya57, I can upload a package with multiple control files in order to build it for multiple versions. Eg. control.saucy, control.raring, control. control.quantal17:17
Legendariocan I mix those with a control.unstable?17:17
mitya57That sounds like a Launchpad-specific hack I didn't know of. But Launchpad doesn't support Debian at all — so no.17:18
Legendariomitya57, ok. thanks! :-) That would be a great feature though since it's the recommended path to get a package into ubuntu17:19
mitya57I think Launchpad will never support Debian. There is a much bigger chance that Debian creates its own PPA system.17:20
Legendariomitya57, that would be also a great stuff. PPAs make packaging and distribution of software much easier. Is the ppa system part of the open source Launchpad app?17:22
mitya57I think yes, but it's practically impossible to create a Launchpad instance different from launchpad.net..17:24
Legendariomitya57, I don't believe so... I know a launchpad developer and she told me anyone can install your own instance  and that it's pretty much modular17:29
Legendarioand it seems that it could be a lot easier for debian to have it's own ppa system if ubuntu one is open sourced17:30
mitya57Legendario: I googled and found https://quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/ which looks like a Launchpad instance with Debian support17:32
* ogra_ wonders if you guys are aware of the #launchpad channel next door ;)17:33
Legendariomitya57, where have you found it has debian support? I can't find it17:39
cjwatsonYou *can* install your own instance, but it's a giant amount of work17:45
cjwatsonIf you just want to build a few Debian packages, just use sbuild - way easier17:46
mitya57$(whatCjwatsonSaid), and ignore the previous link — project looks dead17:52
cjwatsonlaunchpad-buildd is just a smart-ish wrapper around sbuild, after all (admittedly an old version, but that's a bug)17:54
cjwatsonthe publication is harder work, but Debian already knows pretty well how to publish archives ;-)17:54
cjwatsoncontrol.$release isn't a Launchpad-specific hack; it's some kind of hack specific to a particular package.17:56
cjwatsonAnd it's a bad idea since lots of things assume debian/control exists before any code in the package runs.17:56
cjwatsonYou're better off trying to ensure that debian/control matches for all releases you care about, and if you can't do that then use a VCS to maintain separate branches.17:57
