[00:22] hey all, could use help with something on my ubuntu 13.04 server: recently set up iptables, however samba no longer broadcasts, can connect directly, but it does not list in Network Shares. [00:23] and yes i have rules for the samba ports in iptables === steve__ is now known as sbeattie [00:37] tboat: how about the 'nmbd' ports? [00:38] they should be in there [00:39] 137, 138, 139, 445, 389, 445, 901 [00:39] tboat: I find it useful to add an explicit log and then deny when I'm trying to get firewalls working [02:38] Hey all, if I have run a cmd such as "aptitude install mysql-server libapache2-mod-auth-mysql php5-mysql" on a server, how to I remove that? [02:38] this is on 12.04 LTS [03:15] !openldap [03:15] !ldap [03:15] LDAP is the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. For more information, installation instructions and getting clients to authenticate via LDAP see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenLDAPServer [03:20] Guys, I am wanting to be able to have my windows users be able to utlize single sign-on with a moodle website, am I looking at the right thing with ldap? [03:21] !single sign on [03:21] Arrick: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :) [03:21] !SSO [03:27] Arrick: you're thrashing [03:27] ok, please point me in the right direction [03:29] Arrick: is this website on the internet or on your private network? [03:29] private network [03:30] I have been able to install sites so that SSO works in the past, but not on Linux [03:30] I dont want the users to have to logon to the server every time they are doing training, just logon to thier windows PC, and have it authenticate for them when they hit the site. [03:31] SSO on a LAN typically involves Kerberos [03:33] and NTLM [03:33] LDAP was what our last 2 sites have utilized.. [03:34] but then, they were both windows servers running IIS. [03:35] LDAP is a protocol, what was the implementation? Windows or Linux? [03:35] the implementation was windows for the other sites, this one I need on Linux [03:36] so you were probably using AD then [03:36] Oh, yes, Active Directory is the authentication, sorry. [03:37] ok, AD incorporates Kerberos and LDAP, in its own strange way [03:38] yeah [03:38] its what I need, and you are definately on the right track, is there a single site that can help me get to where I need to be at? [03:38] if Windows clients adhere to the standards then they should be able to deal with a Linux-based Kerberos setup, but you never can tell with Windows [03:39] LDAP just stores information. you can therefore put your Kerberos info inside of LDAP if you want but you will still require a Kerberos server [03:40] if you use LDAP, i recommend OpenLDAP as its implementation [03:40] but LDAP & Kerberos can be fairly complex [03:41] and, no, i don't have a site for you. you'll need to do a fair amount of homework === gfrog_ is now known as gfrog [05:24] how do i get rid of 'quiet splash $vt_handoff' on a new saucy install? there is no quiet or splash in /etc/default/grub [05:25] yet the first 3 options are in my grub.cfg [05:26] weird, a 'sudo update-grub' got rid of them, no changes made by me === freeflying is now known as freeflying_away === freeflying_away is now known as freeflying === freeflying is now known as freeflying_away === freeflying_away is now known as freeflying === freeflying is now known as freeflying_away [10:37] hey, I've been trying to get nagios3 installed [10:37] but it just fails [10:37] http://hastebin.com/qutafitaki.vhdl [10:37] any clues on what I can do to get around this ? === gary_poster|away is now known as gary_poster [14:59] Hi, why do automatic updates download flash plugin on headless ubuntu server? [14:59] It seems like a waste since only lynx is installed; no ff, chrome, or etc. [15:01] AdminInNeed: it isn't installed by default. Seems you or something on your system installed it since installation, and thus it's being upgraded. [15:02] does anyone here have a cloud? [15:02] i tried to make a cloud :( it didn't go so well [15:03] AdminInNeed: i suggest you to install with the option --no-install-recommends or the relative option on apt config to avoid the installation of useless software [15:03] * LinuxGold is running Ubuntu 13.10 server in Virtualbox on iMac machine. have been running console for a while and decided to install xubuntu-desktop, couldn't run. [15:04] already apt-get install xubuntu-desktop [15:04] successfully installed, but couldn't start. [15:04] rebooted the vm [15:04] Raboo: remix_tj thanks you for the direction and advice. [15:18] hey [15:18] how does one terminate a subordinate charm that's in the state of dying :) [15:54] http://paste.ubuntu.com/6421788/ [15:54] this might help? [15:56] Hello I have installed BIND manually but I am a little bit confused about whether I am using named.conf or named.conf.local? Both need creating either way. Any help appreciated! [15:57] josh__: I suggest you use named.conf.local unless you have to change something in named.conf. [15:57] josh__: it allows the packaging to change the default named.conf on upgrades without interfering with you. [15:58] josh__: however, you may change named.conf if you wish, eg. to replace the default structure that packaging provides. In this case, you'll just be prompted to deal with it yourself on upgrade. [15:59] Thanks so much for the help. I am new to this admittedly but it's for an experiment I am setting up. A lot of the resources refer to named.conf.local but I thought that may be just for apt-get installs. [15:59] It seems strange that you have to create these files manually as well, is this normal when manually installing? [15:59] What do you mean by "manually installing"? [16:02] Well unpackaging the tarball that I downloaded on BIND's website and compiling it etc. This is how I installed as I wanted to ensure I was getting a particular version. === alex88_ is now known as alex88 [18:52] i want to untar an ubuntu cloudimg and chroot to it. possible? thoughts?
