[00:04] Shitttt [00:04] Lost4 connection there [00:06] Got one node [00:07] thats good [00:07] It is comissioning [00:08] Strange that the docs say that you can register nodes without the disk [00:08] but I couldn't get the controller to see the node unless I used the install cd [00:08] do you know, with maas, if i ssh into the head/master, can i use the hard drives in the slaves/nodes? [00:09] Not sure how to access the nodes [00:09] I think you will need to use a service on top of the metal to access a node's resources [00:09] I'm just beginning to scratch the surface of Juju [00:10] nice [00:10] lol [00:12] holy shit [00:12] http://askubuntu.com/questions/176504/how-can-i-add-packages-repositories-and-users-to-all-nodes [00:13] that actually helps me to understand quite a bit tbh [00:14] basically, from that, it appears that maas is meant to get everything talking to one another, it is the job of other tools, ie juju to do the more advanced work [00:16] Correct [00:17] The purpose of maas is [00:17] if I have a spare machine [00:17] and I want to add it to the cluster [00:17] it takes 30 seconds [00:17] that's really it [00:17] No need to manually install/image different machines [00:17] It's a really goo solution, in theory [00:18] If I can just get it to work, I will be thrilled [00:18] hah. i was thinking it did alot more [00:18] thats what other tools [00:18] are for [00:18] lol [00:18] Yessir [00:19] and Juju just happens to be another Canonical product [00:19] I'm sure you can use other provisioning tools in place of juju [00:19] But for me, one step at a time [00:20] so then how do i install packages across all nodes? [00:22] I think you need to use juju [00:22] http://ideasnet.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/ides-server-lets-see-how-to-set-a-maas-cloud-infrastructure-in-ubuntu-12-04lts-server-edition-part-3/ [00:23] So are your nodes working? [00:24] im not working with the system right now. i gotta roll for a couple minutes. gotta go take grandma to the airport then ill be back [00:24] ill be back in about a half hour [00:24] I'll be up, hahah [00:25] ill be in on my phone in a sec [00:25] Hahah if you wanna use gchat instead, im at jkurtisr32@gmail.com [01:12] im back now lol [01:13] Good to see you're still alive [01:13] I've been having some luck [01:14] Not really the way I imagined my Friday night [01:14] thats good to hear lol [01:14] i normally dont do much on fridays lol [01:14] or saturdays for that matter [01:15] I should be downtown right now [01:15] I am in marching band so during band I am always out and about. and on fridays and saturdays i am out partying all night [01:15] but after band season until winter break, i usually party in on the weekends [01:15] What school? [01:15] doesnt mean i dont get completely piss drunk some nights though [01:16] HAhaha [01:16] miami university in oxford ohio [01:16] haha [01:16] Wuuuttt [01:16] I went to Case [01:16] nice [01:16] Not far at all [01:17] I may actually be in canton in a couple weeks if my high school goes to state champs [01:17] colerain grad [01:18] Crazy [01:18] I guess Ohio is just full of us nerds [01:18] hahahahaha [01:18] that in an irc filled with people from all over the world [01:18] we have the same issue [01:18] with some obscure server tech [01:19] must be an ohio thing [01:19] lol [01:19] Hahaha [01:19] hell yeah [01:20] So tell me about the setup you got working [01:20] You had no router config [01:21] but you were still able to reg and config nodes to the maas server? [01:23] the way i had it running was head running both region/cluster controller with eth0 hooked up to the switch. the switch had each node connected. each node I then setup to pxe boot. I grabbed the mac address and would add it through the web interface. by the time the node requested the image to boot, the maas server would already know about the node, and would send it the image [01:23] I logged in before i started adding nodes and did the "accept-all" thing [01:23] I see [01:24] I successfully added 2 nodes, however, the 2 i added never came back online automatically because they do not support wol [01:24] did any of the machines have internet access? [01:24] well, let me correct [01:24] the bios/mb does not support wol itself [01:24] I see [01:24] but the NIC that i was using in both machines (they are identical) do [01:24] I see [01:24] and I had them configured to do so in their own config [01:25] Hmmm [01:25] But all of these things went through a switch, not a router? [01:25] however, i believe that since the mb doesnt support it, they dont have power to even smell/hear/receive/know about the packets [01:25] I think that is the case, because the bios would still have to flip the power somewhere [01:25] Router>Switch>Head,Node0,Node1,Node2,Node3... [01:25] agreed [01:25] I see [01:26] And you were able to COMISSION nodes, and they were "ready"? [01:26] because when I used that setup, the nodes wouldn't commssion [01:26] I got the first on to commission [01:27] yes, the second one no [01:27] because at 330 am last night [01:27] I got frustrated and said fuck it [01:27] lol [01:27] hahaha [01:27] ok [01:27] i didnt feel like figuring out why the second one wouldnt come back on [01:27] well, am thinking that both should work, but I think that running the dhcp server might be the best method [01:27] what I do need to find out though, is why maas shuts the node down completely [01:28] because in my case, the dell2950's that i have for the first 2 nodes do not like the reboot command [01:28] ideally, maas shuts them down because it thinks that it can turn them back on when they're needed [01:28] i understand that [01:28] i had an issue on an ubuntu install on the 2950 model before [01:29] hmmm [01:29] if i ran "sudo reboot" [01:29] the server would shut down and never power all the way back up, everything (fans, hdds) still spinning, screen still lit, but never booted back into os, network signal went down everything [01:29] it would go off? [01:29] and stay off [01:30] however, if i ran "sudo shutdown -r now" it would reboot like normal [01:30] That's what mine did [01:30] and come back without issue [01:30] correct, running reboot, I would never see it again without holding the power button physically for ~5s [01:32] Hmmm [01:45] You are still ahead of me [01:45] I can't get these fuckers to comission [01:48] Hmm [01:48] I am trying it your way [01:57] Interesting [01:57] I can't get it to work the way you did without telling my router where to send pxe boot clients [01:58] Are you sure that you didn't have to modify your router?
