[10:52] ovidiu-florin, hmm, maybe you can help me get this project opened and building in qtcreator [10:52] I can try [10:52] I'd like to give it a try, it just, there were quite a few barriers compared to getting it running in kdevelop [10:52] ovidiu-florin, so it's just a simple OpenGL project in C++ using cmake (and GLFW for what it's worth) [10:53] ovidiu-florin, the first thing was I was require to create a code blocks project file? does that sound right? [10:53] ovidiu-florin, should I create a new project and import the code? or "open" an existing project? [10:53] open an existing one [10:53] and select the CMakeLists.txt file [10:53] the main one [10:54] ovidiu-florin, yeah did that it now says "the directory does not contain a cbp file" and asks me to run cmake and has a button [10:54] but when I click run cmake, "nothing happens" and the "finish" button is still greyed out [10:54] so I can't move forward [10:55] Tools -> options -> Build & Run -> CMake [10:55] find your cmake binary [10:57] ovidiu-florin, ok cool, should I "Prefer Ninja generator" ? [11:55] Joupi: not first [11:57] Joupi: what is the app for process checks [11:58] user___ : the only things I can think of for a slow down are usually : nepomuk, process taking the load, full memory, network or eventually graphics driver. Anything else would be weird else you had a wrong install or incompatible hardware. Check processes with top on a terminal ... [11:58] top? [11:59] ah [11:59] 13.04 didnt have this issue [11:59] yes, open a terminal and type the command 'top' [12:00] Joupi: no more than 50% of cpu is used [12:00] using top [12:00] Oh and I forgot the update proc which usually runs at startup [12:00] what are the main proc running ? [12:01] vlc and browsers [12:01] pulseaudio too [12:01] does that answer your question about main proc [12:01] if you start your system without any apps open, is it slow ? [12:02] actually it might just be opera, i think i need to test more [12:03] if you have some kind of heavy video/flash stuff open in web pages that could be it [12:03] plenty of flash stuff yes, but my system/video card should handle it fine [12:04] my graphic card driver install reported errors, did you see my earlier post? [12:04] not necessarily since all goes through xorg onto the screen afterwards. I have the same problem sometimes when xorg gets overloaded, the system goes to a crawl ... [12:05] no info about your previous post sorry [12:05] i feel like X could be running more smoothly/quickly. from this pastebin after installing my graphics driver does it seem like there are major errors i can easily fix http://pastebin.com/fAE6hrKA - kubuntu 13.10 [12:05] ^^ [12:05] I suggest you uninstall your proprietary driver then and try again [12:06] can you tell me what steps one would take to do that [12:06] OK I see, do an apt-get remove purge all nividia stuff and do a clean install [12:06] apt-get uninstall? [12:07] when you reinstall on top you still keep the old crapy stuff [12:07] so, clean install and don't use ati-amd driver for my card at all? [12:08] i was hoping that a couple more packages installed might make the driver work ok [12:08] but from what you see, i should avoid the driver altogether? [12:09] I see an error message saying : kernel module version mismatch. I believe either your install went wrong or you have an incompatibility somewhere [12:09] try to use the free graphics driver first and see if it works [12:10] if it works, then try a clean reinstall of your proprietary driver [12:10] Joupi: by free graphics driver you mean the one preinstalled with k13.10 [12:10] ? [12:10] yes [12:10] that does work [12:10] well [12:10] in 13.04 [12:10] that's clear then [12:10] assuming same one [12:11] normally when you install system, the proprietary driver is not installed by defaults, you have to install afterwards [12:11] Joupi: yeah, i was hoping the prop driver would yield a boost in performance, i just want to get it working right [12:12] then if you need your proprietary driver, you should first purge completely the old install, check the correct driver to install (providing you know which one you need) and redo a clean install [12:12] proprietary does not always lead to improved perf ;-) [12:15] Joupi: i don't know if i can improve installation conditions for the prop driver. this was clean install (not upgrade from 13.04), and i installed the prop driver without --force due to missing package dependencies. the best thing i could think to do would be new fresh install of 13.10 followed by installation of packages that the errors in the pastebin might be resolved and then finally installation of the prop driver itself, what do you think? [12:16] I believe yes, but 2 things : [12:17] 1- check prop. drivers in the update, you should have the one you need after clean system install [12:17] 2- make suer all dependencies are there else you will fail again === adrien_ is now known as Guest10519 === Steakanbake|slee is now known as Steakanbake [12:47] from this http://pastebin.com/fAE6hrKA what dependencies does it appear are missing === Vito_ is now known as Vito [13:39] can't seem to get wake on keyboard working from sleep state [13:40] trying to toggle cat /proc/acpi/wakeup doesn't work. unaffected by echo USBX > /proc/acpi/wakeup command [13:51] is it possible that networkmanager is broken on kubuntu 13.10? === Steakanbake is now known as Steakanbake|slee [14:03] Howdy folks === Doyle_ is now known as Doyle [14:47] i have hdmi cable plugged into audio/video receiver, when i boot into desktop i get wrong resolution what should i do [14:49] jarkko. to what kind of monitor is the receiver connected? [19:14] lordievader, Okay its done? [19:15] lordievader, yay its there [19:15] lordievader: You're going to gain weight with so many helper snacks.... [19:15] !helpersnack | lordievader [19:15] lordievader: Wow! You're such a great helper, you deserve a cookie! [19:16] I'm afraid I'm getting addicted to them :( [19:16] :) [19:16] Lovely factoid though. [19:16] lordievader, Okay but it doessnt change anything? [19:17] Duel: Have you set it as the screenshot of genii and logged out and in? [19:17] Duel: Might want also gtk2-engines-oxygen and gtk3-engines-oxygen [19:17] ( if not already installed now ) [19:18] genii, Installing gt2 [19:19] lordievader, what you mean set it as a screen shot? [19:20] Duel: genii gave you a screenshot of how it should be set up. [19:20] genii, re link please? [19:21] Duel: http://imagebin.org/index.php?mode=image&id=277760 [19:22] lordievader, Okay yes i got it now [19:22] brb [19:23] How do I change the metric value on networks (two nics) on Raring? Setting a value in network-manager doesn't seem to make any difference. [19:25] lordievader, now say If i download a theme how do I use it? [19:26] Duel: Depends on the theme. Usually in the theme selector in the Sysconfig window there is a button to download new themes. That is probably the easiest. [19:27] lordievader, In the appearance ? [19:28] lordievader, Found it and Does it matter what type of theme I get? [19:28] Duel: For example: System Settings -> Workspace Appearance -> Desktop Theme -> Get New Themes. [19:28] Duel: What type? What do you mean? [19:29] lordievader, Never mind that, But how do I set it? Where the oxygen-gtk theme is i just set it to the one I downlaoded?> [19:30] Duel: The usual theme for Kubuntu is Oxygen, so for the GTK settings you should put oxygen-gtk so that it matches your Kubuntu when you open for instance Firefox or other non-KDE stuff [19:30] Duel: I'm confused. What is your current problem and status. [19:30] oh okay. [19:30] lordievader: Ubuntu Software Center looks fugly :) [19:30] genii: No wonder, its the Ubu Software Center :P [19:32] ubuntu the dark secret of kubuntu... [19:32] lordievader, This is my current top, http://imgur.com/GYLQhmg [19:34] Is there anyway I can set terminal to ALT+t? [19:35] Duel: System Settings -> Shortcuts -> Somewhere (I usually make a custom one). [19:35] Duel: Is there anything wrong with that screenshot? [19:35] lordievader, Not really but I feel I need something more lol. [19:36] lordievader, For the Shortcut type what would i put? [19:36] Duel: Personal preferance I suppose, I like a clean desktop. [19:36] Duel: Global -> Command/url [19:37] lordievader, and then? [19:37] Duel: Alternately, Right-click on Application Launcher, choose Edit Applications, Navigate to where Konsole is ( System... Konsole) click Advanced tab, assign a "Current Shortcut Key" [19:39] Done Thank you [19:47] Thank you all for your help [19:51] Duel: As for the ADB and fastboot, the packages you want are: android-tools-adb and android-tools-fastboot [19:52] can I jsut install from Sudo? [19:53] Thx [19:54] Duel: Certainly, like: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot [19:54] genii, I jsut did them individually? [19:55] That works also. [19:55] genii, So then I click on the app "Run ADB" then do fastboot fast boot boot.img? [19:56] Duel: Might want to see that the command: sudo adb devices ...sees your phone [20:00] Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 70: non-double matrix element [20:00] what does that mean [20:00] yo [20:04] Now my sd card isnt mounting... [20:07] jarkko: Is this when you start up Steam? [20:09] accidentally did factory reset :/ [20:09] Duel: The sdcard in your computer or sdcard in your phone? [20:09] genii, phone. Idk why but it doesnt read it auto [20:11] genii, I can mount it in recovery but thats the only way [20:11] genii, and my charging port is about done. [20:12] Duel: Sounds like your phone might be physically failing [20:13] genii, owell. But the line Fastboot flash boot boot.img will work? [20:14] Duel: The fastboot commands and adb commands are independent of operating system. If there are paths though to the boot.img for instance, use the linux path to where it is and not a Windows-type path [20:15] genii, So then what would I do? [20:15] Duel: Where is the "boot.img" file? [20:16] in my downloads [20:16] It says waiting for device [20:17] Duel: If you are in Konsole and go: ls Downloads/boot.img ...does it appear? Make sure to use D and not d in "Downloads" [20:17] that means its not configured right === leona is now known as Guest20224 [20:18] Duel: It says this "waiting for device" when you issue what command? [20:18] fastboot flash boot boot.img [20:19] Duel: ctrl-c to interrupt that. [20:22] Duel: First make sure device is seen by adb, like as before I described: sudo adb devices ...should show some result. Then you have to make sure you have correct path to "boot.img" to put into the fastboot command. Then you have to put your phone into the mode that allows it to be flashed in the first place, which varies from phone to phone but is usually something like power-on-button+volume-up+volume-down together when starting it up [20:23] w8 it doesnt show devices [20:23] Duel: Then after it is in the correct mode for flashing, is when you issue the fastboot command, but only after you are sure where the image file is [20:24] Duel: If adb doesn't show the phone in it's devices list, check that the cable is a data transfer cable and not a charge-only cable. [20:24] ive done it before [20:25] Duel: For your android-specific questions which are not related to Kubuntu support, I will answer those in the #android channel, where I also am. === Jikai is now known as Jikan [20:42] fajita, incompetency [20:42] wops [20:48] sgclark: Hey Scarlet it's Rick.
