JaySeeSo i'm not sure how to go about filing this bug... Basicly what's wrong is the alx driver seems to crash when i let unity do it's thing and sleep my laptop when i close the lid, select it from the menu, etc. If i run pm-suspend though, the driver seems to be fine20:43
penguin42what's alx?20:45
JaySeealx is the name of the driver for my ethernet card. you use the name when you go to modprobe it and such20:52
penguin42ah ok, so ether driver20:52
penguin42and you say it crashes, in what way? It just stops working or do you get an oops or any debug?20:52
JaySeejust stops working20:53
JaySeewhen waking the laptop back up, it simply doesn't detect an ethernet connection20:53
JaySeestill detects that there's an ethernet port though20:53
penguin42does everything else work ok?20:53
JaySeeeverything else works fint20:53
JaySeefine20:53
JaySeei generally work around it by running "sudo rmmod alx && sudo modprobe alx"20:54
penguin42do you have wireless as well on it ?20:54
JaySeeyup20:54
penguin42ok, so I'd report the bug against the linux package, makesure you use a subject like suspend in the title, and I'd make the report by doing   ubuntu-bug linux     on the system over wifi from the system after you've woken it with the ethernet in the broken state20:56
JaySeethat sounds reasonable20:56
penguin42and put the note in about how pm-suspend works; I doubt unity itself has anything to do with it, it could be some interaction with network-manager or something but shrug20:57
JaySeejust wasn't sure what package to file it against20:57
penguin42JaySee: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Suspend.2C_Hibernate.2C_and_Resume20:57
JaySeeit's worth reporting20:57
JaySeeas soon as this large file transfer is done...20:57
penguin42JaySee: Yeh, I'd say since it's hardware specific I'd go with the kernel20:57
JaySeewell the driver wasn't even in a ubuntu package until 13.10...20:58
JaySeebut now it's installed by default20:58
JaySee:D20:58
penguin42right, so some progress21:00
JaySeeyup21:00
penguin42JaySee: When you report the bug, a bot will ask you to try the latest upstream kernel from a url it will give you and ask you to fill in some notes21:01
