bennypr0fanehello, how can I mount a webdav network share with thunar?01:06
Unit193It'd be worth a shot, I know mount.davfs works.01:09
bennypr0faneUnit193, command line?01:11
Unit193It's a normal mount command, but thunar may do it as well.01:12
bennypr0fanein Gnome/Nautilus, you can just "connect to server", choose webdav, enter the url, done01:12
bennypr0fanebut I can't find a "connect to server" equivalent in thunar01:13
bennypr0faneIf I enter the URL in hte location bar and press enter, nothing happens01:13
bennypr0faneUnit193, I mean I don't care how I mount it, command line or GUi. THe important things is that I can always see the webdav share in the file manger after that01:14
bennypr0fane:-D "file manger" lol01:15
Unit193Does Go > Open Location do what you want?01:19
bennypr0faneUnit193, no, it doesn't do anything01:37
Unit193OK, then davfs2 and mount.davfs it.01:53
bennypr0faneactually, I think Gigolo is GUI meant for this01:54
bennypr0faneI just mounted a sahare using Gigolo, and when double clicking it, it opens it in the file manager, so I guess that is the solution I was lookin for01:55
bennypr0faneUnit193, still have to check if it sticks across reboots. thanks, have a good one!01:55
* David-A have tried left-hand-mouse for a couple of weeks, now back to right-hand-mouse03:33
ObrienDaveLOL why, oh why, would you want to do that? ;))03:37
Poisoned_DragonI could offer insight but it's inappropriate and extremely off topic. Move along. :)03:39
lennoxmy screen is going garbled and everything locks up when i open firefox any ideas?03:44
David-APoisoned_Dragon: don't worry, it's not that, not only that03:45
David-AObrienDave: some weeks ago i felt some strain in my right-hand-fingers. it has improved sligtly, and now I feel strain in my left shoulder.03:45
Poisoned_Dragonheh, you can't win.03:46

ObrienDaveheavy mouse? ;)03:46
Poisoned_Dragonthe strain in your shoulder is probably from not being use to it.03:46
Poisoned_Dragonheavy arm03:46
David-AObrienDave: to the picture, i have added a separate numeric keypad placed to the left, so I have numeric keypads to both the left and right, and using one where I currently have less finger strain03:48
Poisoned_Dragonsmart03:49
David-AObrienDave: more to the picture, I have mapped the arrow keys to keypad 4,5,6,+ so I use all 4 fingers for arrow keying.03:49
David-AObrienDave: (similar to the h,j,k,l arrows in vim, but different order I think)03:51

DonnieI completely forgot the terminal commands for searching for drivers when adding hardware... like usb hardware that might need special drivers..09:23
well_laid_lawnDonnie:  lsusb will list the usb devices, the modules(linux has modules not drivers) should be loaded by the kernel when the device is found/inserted09:29
well_laid_lawnwhen you insert a usb device running   dmesg | tail   should show what the kernelcould do for it09:29
ochosikoegs: afaik the place of the gtk3 ini file was changed10:09
ochosiso it might be that apps that haven't been updated to a newer standard look in the wrong place10:10
ochosibut i'm not sure10:10
koegsstrange thing is, in the xubuntu-session everything looks ok, so i am trying to think from that direction10:11
koegshow does xfce set the theme?10:11
ochosiwith xfsettingsd10:12
ochosiobviously that's not the full answer, but i don't know how exactly it does it10:12
koegsochosi: thx, that might help, actually, when i start xfsettingsd, the apps use the correct theme, but not the font size, i can work with that10:13
ochosikoegs: good to hear!10:15
ochosibasically you might have to start some of the stuff the xubuntu session starts10:15
koegsochosi: thx, works like a charm, only thing is a wrong background on the nm-applet icon in the systray, but i think that has to be fixed in the theme10:40
ochosikoegs: yeah, it's an indicator, no?10:41
koegsyes10:41
ochosithen you oughta use a theme that themes indicators correctly10:41
ochosiwhat theme are you using atm?10:42
koegsochosi: http://sixsixfive.deviantart.com/art/simpliX-Xfwm-Xfce-Notify-GTK2-GTK3-34640445210:42
ochosiah, i love sixsixfive's stuff10:42
ochosibut he's not using xubuntu, so no indicator support ;)10:43
ochosishouldn't be very hard to fix though10:43
koegsochosi: https://mytestarea.de/10:43
koegsthere you can see my desktop, only nm-applet is wrong :D10:43
ochosisweet :)10:44
ochosilooks nice10:44
ochosiit's very far off the default, i like it10:44
koegstook a lot of work, but i am very happy with it10:44
ochosiyeah, can imagine10:44
ochosiwhat icons are you using?10:44
koegs"any color you like" (ACYL 0.9.4)10:45
ochosiah10:46
ochosiweird, that theme seems to have some problems10:46
ochosimenuitem-hover doesn't work here.10:46
ochosieven in gtk210:47
ochosithat's rather odd10:47
koegsit is white on white?10:47
ochosiyup10:47
koegsyeah, seen that too, but it did not bother me a lot10:47
ochosirly? how? :)10:47
koegsthat is not a thing i see very often other than the nm-applet :D10:48
ochosiit's quite a grave issue imo10:48
ochosikoegs: try this, open xfcepanel.theme and add:10:50
ochosiwidget "*indicator-applet*"style "xfcepanelsystraytogglebutton"10:50
ochosiwidget "*indicator-button*"style "xfcepanelsystraytogglebutton"10:50
ochosiafter line 9310:50
ochosithen restart the panel (xfce4-panel --restart)10:50
ochosi(and if it works, please send it to 665 as a patch)10:51
koegscan you put it in a pastebin? i think it got broke by pasting it in the irc-client10:53
koegsochosi: got it alrady10:54

xubuntu886Is ubuntu secure? (therefore xubuntu)14:15
cfhowlettyes14:15
cfhowlettxubuntu886, the biggest threat sits between the keyboard and the screen14:16
xubuntu886what if canonical allowed backdoors?14:16
baizonxubuntu886: linux is open source, so everybody can review the code14:16
cfhowlettxubuntu886, it's open source.  pretty sure it would be found, don't you think?14:17
xubuntu886no I read somewhere about binary packages or something that are difficult to read14:17
koegsochosi: would it be possible to give me a hint, i am lost when it comes to gtk-theming :(14:18
baizonxubuntu886: well you can compile everything by yourself from the sources14:18
ochosikoegs: well tbh i'm not sure why that particular trayicon behaves different from the rest14:18
baizonxubuntu886: the community is to "big", that nobody would notice a backdoor14:18
xubuntu886I am a windows user, i dont know this stuff14:18
knomexubuntu886, as long as you use common sense and think twice before typing your password, you are fine.14:19
ochosikoegs: i can try to patch it a little later14:19
koegsochosi: thx a lot, testing can be done by me :)14:20
ochosikoegs: well i have to test it, otherwise i can't *really* fix it ;)14:21
xubuntu886The community is not big, a very common bug about the sound control is still there after a month of official release14:21
koegswell put, my dear friend14:21
fartbonerxubuntu886: why not compile everything yourself14:21
xubuntu886how would anyone then see a backdoor?14:21
ochosikoegs: hm, works here: http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-11272013-032148pm.php14:22
fartbonerxubuntu886: by reading the source code?14:22
ochosikoegs: that's with xfce4-panel and nm-applet as trayicon14:22
knomexubuntu886, the former is a xubuntu-only issue, the latter are ubuntu-wide issues14:22
koegsochosi: hm, maybe i need to take a deeper look at my config, when i am at home14:22
fartbonerxubuntu886: plenty of people use xubuntu14:22
ochosikoegs: yeah, could be a problem with the icon too14:23
ochosikoegs: but it's hard to say, anyway from the gtk-theme code things look okayish14:23

knomeas the release notes say, some of the indicators are broken in 13.1014:39

hurdorbsdActually I ve used pretty much raw XFCE so I have no idea .. I used Debian XFCE before .. it was 4.8 raw version almost14:39
hurdorbsdXubuntu isn't the best xfce Ubuntu I guess14:40
koegsknome: is the message indicator re-integrated? in 12.10 it was removed14:41
knomexubuntu886, there is a general problem with indicators which will be fixed in 14.0414:41
knomekoegs, i can't remember exactly, we've unfortunately lost the indicators one by one14:41
knomebut as i said, they should be all back for 14.0414:41

It doesn't seem that there's a particular problem with Xorg; lightdm works. And my applications have started; I can use my keyboard shortcuts to interact with my screen and keyboard backlights. But there is nothing displayed on the screen. It's all black.19:42
