Eliyahu`so when should we expect an ubuntu 13.10 release for some tablet device to run the full OS02:10
=== Namidairo`bnc is now known as Namidairo
nhainesEliyahu`: err, never?06:00
nhainesTablet support is scheduled for 14.04.06:01
nhainesAnd if you mean convergence support, it *might* make some kind of appearance in 14.04, but from the sounds of thinks, probably not until 14.10.06:01

bhaluHow to install ubuntu touch in arm dev boards06:12
nhainesbhalu: start compiling.  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting06:17
bhalunhaines: my board is a arm7 architecture , can i install prebuild images directly06:24
nhainesbhalu: no.  You'll have to port it to your architecture and do all the work from scratch.06:26
bhalunhaines:   http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/20131125/     ---> this link providing a armv7 processors prebuilt ubuntu touch images06:28
bhalunhaines: why can't i use the same image on my board since architecture is same06:28
nhainesBecause hardware drivers.06:29
bhalunhaines: ok, any pointers to build it from scratch . I am not getting from info from porting page06:35
nhainesSorry, I don't have additional information.06:36
bhalunhaines: thanks for help06:37
nhainesbhalu: I hope it's a starting point!06:37
fahadashCan I install ubuntu on iPad ?07:01
bhaluHow to install ubuntu touch in arm dev boards07:41
bhalu?07:41
nhainesfahadash: no.09:18
fahadashIt sucks09:20
fahadashWhy ?09:20
fahadashI hate this09:20
fahadashHas Apple made the hardware details so confidential and locked up that you guys cannot reverse engineer ?09:20
fahadashOr does either ubuntu or ipad-hardware suck ?09:21
fahadashIts very hard for me to swallow09:21
nhainesfahadash: Because no one has ported Ubuntu to the iPad.09:21
fahadashAnd why is that ?09:21
fahadashBecause no one can ?09:22
nhainesProabably for the same reason you haven't.09:22
fahadashI haven't because I am not expert in the subject09:23
fahadashSo you're implying that ubuntu-community seriously lack the juice ?09:23
nhainesThere aren't any Linux drivers for iPad hardware, much less Android drivers.09:24
fahadashAnd why so ?09:24
nhainesBecause Apple doesn't care about this.  Their hardware is built only to run Apple software.09:24
fahadashYou guys wrote linux drivers for hp laptops, why didnt you take an extra step ahead and wrote some for ipad ?09:24
nhainesThere's no "you guys" here.  HP uses commodity PC hardware.09:24
nhainesSo almost all of the hardware on my current HP laptop, which I'm typing on now, was already just supported by the standard drivers.09:25
fahadashDo you mean, its up to Apple to release drivers for linux ?09:25
nhainesBut ARM hardware is all proprietary.09:25
nhainesYes, either to release drivers or to publish technical specifications so that drivers can be developed.09:25
fahadashThat doesn't mean any single company can be sued for writing linux drivers for ARM, because open-source communinity is like peer2peer, they cant get lawsuit unless they are a business entity which opensource community isnt09:26
fahadashnhaines, Publish tech specs ? Can't somebody reverse engineer or get in cahoots with chinese firm who is making those ARM hardwares ?09:27
nhainesIt does, however, mean that developers tend to favor hardware that has documentation or manufacturer support.09:27
nhainesfahadash: it's incredibly hard to so do.09:27
nhainesfahadash: if it were easy, you could do so over the weekend.09:27
nhaines(If it were easy, even *I* could.  And I'm a programmer, not a hardware developer.)09:27
fahadashSo you're saying Apple is badass and linux-community sucks ?09:27
nhainesfahadash: I'm saying that it's like trying to understand Hittite or Phoenecian without a Rosetta Stone.  Very time-consuming and difficult, if not impossible.09:28
nhainesAnyway, if I were a developer working in my spare time for free, I'd probably rather buy cheaper hardware that was Linux friendly, not Apple hardware that had no documentation.  So that's likely the reason there's no Linux support.  That's presuming that Apple isn't trying to lock out other firmware, like they do with iPods.09:33

Vairam??11:05
nhainesVairam: you can't.11:06
Vairambut some people mentioned its possible in some websites11:07
nhainesBetter follow up with them, then.  It's not listed on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices.11:07
Vairammy mobile is listed there11:12
Vairambut not in bold11:12
Vairamwhat does this mean??11:13
nhainesIt means you can see the link under the "Status Page" column to see what the status was and whether or not there are instructions.11:14
VairamWHen are they planning to release ubuntu for phones officially??11:18
nhainesThey already have.  But as far as official support, you'll have to buy a handset that comes with it preinstalled.11:18
nhainesAnd handset manufacturers never talk about this information beforehand.11:19
Vairamthat sound great11:20

randomcppwhy if I install a click pkg manually with pkcon install-local I can't see it listed in Applications?11:58

PoltoS_Is it possible to use cyrillic letters in contacts? All my cyrillic contacts are under # letter. Also how to add russian keyboard and allow switching between en/ru?16:14
lopsThe UI is in the works, but according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/ReleaseNotes#Language_and_keyboard you can change the language in the terminal, but even that is limited to a few languages ('en_us', 'es', 'fr', 'pt', 'de', 'zh_cn_pinyin')16:17

PoltoS_And what about list of contacts? The problem seems to be really minor (just allow not only latin to be as key in the list). Could you point me to a place I can contrubute? (is it in some git?)16:44
lopsPoltoS_, I think all that info in here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Contribute16:47
lopsANd i believe those are the laguanges you get, atthe moment16:49
TheShahinI'm currently trying to install Ubuntu Touch on my Nexus 7. It says "ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?". Now, the installation guide says to just wait through screens that seem like they need input, but this hasn't changed for 20 minutes. Shall I keep on waiting or is there something wrong?17:17
TheShahinIt also lists a lot of no's and a "Yes - Disable recovery flash"17:17
lopsany devs tried saving files in ubuntu touch? i'm pretty lost, so any help is apreciated -.-20:13
randomcpplops, which kind of files?20:17
dobeylops: apps are contained on ubuntu touch. so you can't just save files anywhere. i don't know where exactly apps have access to save to by default, but you'll get a better answer tomorrow when people are actually around20:17
randomcppubuntu touch uses a sandboxed enviroenment for third party apps20:17
randomcppenvironment**20:18
dobeyrandomcpp: type doesn't matter. location does20:18
randomcppdobey, I know it very well :)20:18
lopsoh, people are not around now. ok xD20:20
lopsyes, i know there are restrictions, that is expected.20:20
lopsI read about policires the other day20:20
randomcppyou should look for Ubuntu.Content component20:20
lopsin the mean time, I also tried stackoverflow. I'll focus on the UI for now then.20:21
randomcppto access and export files from your app20:21
lopsrandomcpp, thx. will look it up20:21
randomcpplops, if you only need to save config file or app data you should write in $XDG_DATA_DIR/$APP_ID directory20:22
lopshm thanks. my problem is how to write on file from QML20:23
randomcpplops, then you have to use c++20:24
lopsdo i need a C++ main?20:24
randomcppc++ main or qt c++ plugins20:25
randomcppin my app I use a c++ plugin20:25
randomcpphttps://github.com/random-cpp/saucybacon20:25
lopsthank you20:25
randomcppyou can copy everything you need, just respect the license :)20:26
randomcpplops, using c++ main instead of a plugin seems to be a little easier20:26
dobeyconfig files should go in #XDG_CONFIG_HOME, not $XDG_DATA_DIR20:35
randomcppdobey, yeah you're right20:38
randomcppdobey, for some reason I've used XDG_DATA_DIR and I don't know if I'll switch at the moment20:42
