abraca78okay, found it00:38
xubuntu434Another help. is how do I install Skype ?00:38

holstein!skype00:39

xubuntu338hello !02:22
ddsssis gigolo is kinda de-facto standard for mounting things? or are there other frontends?03:35
theStewHey there. I'm wanting to dual boot a desktop with Windows and Xubuntu. Would you recommend installing Windows first on just a partition of half the disk then installing Xubuntu on the other partition?06:16
cfhowletttheStew, windows first, yes..06:17
theStewSomeone said that I could install Windows on the whole disk then just take a chunk off a partition a bit for a Linux install. But to me it just seems more logical to partition the disk into 2 and install windows on one and linux on the other.06:19
cfhowletttheStew, that is the recommended practice.  a 50/50 allocation of disk space works well.  Set that up in the windows partitioning: 1/2 for windows and the other 1/2 blank06:21
theStewthat I'll do. Thanks06:22
sludgehi, i've been trying to get an analogue video capture card working, installed v4l from git and now have no /dev/video* entries. I'm not sure if they are renamed or if I've done something false.07:48

commander_Hi, does anyone know if there's a way to get my screen resolution to change, it only has 1 option in the display section but I have a 1920x1080 screen17:17
commander_Also, is there a way to get windows to min/maximize by double clicking on them?17:18
GridCubecommander_, if xrandr shows you just one setting there is no easy way to change the resolution, except ofcourse forcing the xrandr options, and for the double clic do the double clic on the tittle of the window you want to enlarge17:22
GridCubeyou can also press alt-F10 to maximize faster17:23
commander_GridCube, I see in the window manager setting double click should work but it doesn't and i also noticed that my scroll button doesn't work :/17:26
GridCubecommander_, you might need to tap twice pretty fast on the tittle, on the words of the title of the page17:27
GridCubealt-f10 is way faster17:27
xubuntu910Hey there17:30
xubuntu910totally new to this whole stuff here17:30
GridCube!hi | xubuntu91017:30
ubottuxubuntu910: Hi!, Welcome to #xubuntu! Feel free to ask questions and help people out. The channel guidelines are at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/Guidelines. Enjoy your stay!17:30
xubuntu910So here's my question17:31
xubuntu910I got this old netbook running on Windows 7 startert and I want to use it at a test stuff to learn about linux and such17:32
xubuntu910I want to install xubuntu instead of W7, I got the ISO but of course no CD reader on the netbook, so I try to mount the ISO. But then, when I reboot nothing happen17:33
xubuntu910any clue ?17:33
churlDo you have a spare usb drive?17:34
xubuntu910Hu churl ; yup, the ISO is on the USB drive17:34
churlxubuntu910: is it just the iso file on the drive?17:35
xubuntu910yes17:35
xubuntu910the mounted CD is on virtual drive17:35
churlSo you'll need a windows program that will use the ISO file and make the USB drive into something bootable17:36
GridCubexubuntu910, thats not how it works17:36
GridCube!unetbootin | xubuntu91017:37
ubottuxubuntu910: For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent17:37
xubuntu910thanks ubottu, I will read those links again17:38
churlxubuntu910: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/17:38
GridCubeunetbootin is the easier way yes, but do read the tutorial17:38
xubuntu910Thanks GridCube and Churl I'll look forward to all this17:38
churlit takes the ISO and takes files out of it and sets up a file system on the usb drive.17:39
xubuntu910OK17:39
xubuntu910hey there again18:10
xubuntu910Thanks forUNetbootin18:11
xubuntu910did the stuff with the ISO on the SUB drive, then rebooted18:11
GridCubeperfect :)18:11
xubuntu910Alas, in the BIOS, the only option is Windows 718:11
GridCubethe BIOS has not saying on what system is installed18:12
xubuntu910Note that the USB is in FAT 32 so that should be OK I guess18:12
GridCubeyes18:12
GridCubexubuntu910, when rebooting press the key that lets you choose the booting medium18:12
GridCubeit usually says in the bios screen, its usually or F8 or F1218:13
xubuntu910GridCube I'll try again, but I did try with backspace and F1 and the result was the same, no USB option to boot18:13
xubuntu910I'll try F8 and F1218:13
GridCubexubuntu910, read wht the bios screen says18:13
GridCubeit usually is there a "press F# for boot options"18:14
GridCubeunless ofcourse this is a UEFI machine18:14
GridCubein that case im like jon snow18:14
xubuntu426Hello xubuntu91. Try "Del" key too. =)18:15
xubuntu910F8 : propose me to boot in different Windows mode, like "mode sans echec" (don't know how to translate : boot without fail ?"18:15
xubuntu910but no USB option18:15
GridCubexubuntu910, :/ you might have an uefi machine?18:15
GridCubedisable secure boot in that case?18:16
xubuntu910IDK, it's an eeePC from Asus, not exactly the last stuff on the market18:16
GridCubewhat model is it?18:17
xubuntu9101015PEM18:18
GridCubefirs google result says: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186479518:18
xubuntu910GridCube thanks I'll play a little with those solutions to see what happen18:20

ScriptwriterAnybody know why, when I click on the desktop and select "Create from template", thunar doesn't show the template I stored in ~/Templates ? This has never worked for me since I started with Xubuntu (quantal I think)21:31
krytarikScriptwriter: Have you already checked that -- XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/Templates" -- is in your "~/.config/user-dirs.dirs"?21:49
mastershakequestion22:57
mastershakewhy the hell22:57
mastershakeis it so goddamn difficult22:57
mastershaketo configure a freakin' proxy in xubuntu?22:57
bekksto write on one line? :P22:57
knomeplease mind the language, this is a family-friendly channel22:57
mastershakeit's retarded22:58
mastershakewas this specifically designed for users that would never use a proxy??22:58
Unit193I use a proxy, no problem-o.22:59
mastershakeediting /etc/environment does nothing. editing /etc/profile does nothing.23:00
mastershakei just want to configure a system-wide socks proxy. can anyone here help me or am i just going to switch distros?23:00
krytarikFyi, he's talking about Chrome. :P23:01
krytarikWith Tor.23:01
mastershakei can configure chrome to use a proxy through terminal just fine23:01
krytarikGood, so you managed that earlier today.23:02
krytarikSo where specifically is the problem now then?23:03
mastershake$google-chrome-stable --proxy-server=socks://127.0.0.1:9050 ... that's not what im looking for.23:03
krytarikSo for what?23:04
krytarikmastershake: Btw, reg. Chrome with Tor, you may want to have a look at this guide, specifically "Method 1" there: http://justplainobvious.blogspot.de/2011/03/how-to-configure-google-chrome-for-tor.html23:07
mastershake...kthx23:12
mastershakewhoops, just saw all that.23:12
mastershakewell krytarik , what about setting for system wide?23:15
krytarikmastershake: There -- http://askubuntu.com/questions/150210/how-do-i-set-systemwide-proxy-servers-in-xubuntu-lubuntu-or-ubuntu-studio -- and there: http://askubuntu.com/questions/24116/what-is-the-all-proxy-environment-variable-used-for23:17
=== Lothenon is now known as Rochvellon
Scriptwriterkrytarik, Sorry for the delay. I haven't checked that because I had no idea I needed to.23:25
ScriptwriterEverything I saw when I was researching the problem said to just drop the files into "~/Templates"23:25
ScriptwriterSo thanks for the pointer, apparently now it's pointing to my home directory, so I'll see what happens if I change it.23:26

xubunethi great people!23:54
xubunetCan anyone help a noob with soundcloud issues?23:54
Unit193What issue?23:54
xubunetIt just wont play either in firefox or chromium - it just sits there after I hit the play button :(23:55
xubunetI'm new to xubuntu and not so hot always at deciphering what people are talking about on message boards to fix this.23:57
Unit193Well that's pretty stupid, they don't work with the 11.2 series of flash, only 11.9 -_-23:59
xubunetSo this is a browser issue; the newest version of flash is not supported by these browsers in xubuntu?23:59
