darkxstjw12000, it should work, but it will be very slow, since it will use software rendering00:37

gnomerHi!17:06
gnomerUbuntu Gnome 14.04 will be LTS?17:07

roasted_darkxst: I just fired up a live USB of ubuntu gnome 13.10 without PPAs (of course) and it too failed to install a printer.19:48
roasted_doesn't seem to be 3.8 vs 3.10 related, but 13.10 in itself19:48
darkxstroasted, did it ever work previously?19:52
roasted_on 13.10, no19:52
roasted_I've tried 4 printers at this point, all network based.19:53
roasted_gnome 3.10 in opensuse 13.1... works fine19:53
roasted_definitely something centralized around the 13.10 release of ubuntu gnome, as far as I can tell, and it doesn't care if I'm on the default 3.8 or PPA'd to 3.1019:53
darkxsttry with a 14.04 image? I can install my network printer here on trusty+3.10 (although it never worked in the past)19:54
roasted_I can try it19:57
roasted_by the time this is done downloading I'll be hosting a training session, so I probably won't get to it until much later.20:01
roasted_is Ubuntu 14.04 changing much in terms of the GTK vs Qt war?20:01
roasted_Like will Gnome be integrated nicer in Ubuntu 14.04 or will it be heavily driven by PPAs and wizardry workarounds?20:01
darkxstroasted, it should be slightly better, but you will still need a PPA to get full 3.1020:05
roasted_;/20:06
roasted_darkxst: are you an ubuntu gnome dev?20:06
darkxstyes20:07
roasted_darkxst: I'm having a hard time understanding why gnome/ubuntu is a difficult relationship to overcome at the core level. I say this while looking as Xubuntu, who's GTK under the hood, and Mint 16 who have independent-ized Cinnamon to the point it doesn't matter what Ubuntu runs under the hood.20:08
darkxstroasted_, we have quite a few packages shared with Ubuntu20:13
darkxstwhere as xfce is largely independent of GNOME and cinnamon is a fork20:14
roasted_ah. :(20:18
roasted_this is the non-dev of me speaking but I would think, if nothing else, you could just pipe Gnome in its entirety to a single PPA and have it come down separately.20:19
roasted_That way shared libs with Ubuntu get upgraded and missing libs get installed and = Gnome.20:19
darkxstcan't just go replacing shared libs, it messes with the reverse dependencies20:24
roasted_oh :(20:30
roasted_it's a shame you can't seemingly have an ubuntu base with an independently (but heavily integrated) gnome instance20:31
darkxstroasted_, we will get there eventually, hopefully for 14.1021:03
roasted_darkxst: yeah, I have no doubt. It's just, as long as I can't print, things like that are major show stoppers for me, unfortunately.21:09
darkxstroasted_,  but you can? your printer installed via system-config-printer should work fine!21:11
roasted_well, yeah, I suppose21:11
roasted_still signs of a broken setup (blunt 2c)21:11
roasted_gotta run though. thanks again.21:12
