Makyojujugui can't get functional tests to pass in the charm on ec2 - it always times out or coredumps.  Going to see if I can get it to work elsewhere, but if not, I may need someone else to do the charm upgrade.02:55

rick_h__party13:35
hatchhttp://www.autoblog.com/2013/12/05/kids-more-distracting-than-texting-while-driving/ welp time to ban kids from cars13:38
rick_h__yea sorry, don't buy that one13:38
rick_h__I almost had an accident with some young person on a phone the other day13:39
rick_h__about had a fit13:39
hatchyour kid clearly isn't old enough haha13:39
rick_h__"hellooooo, you're at a busy intersection with lights changing colors...look UP!"13:39
hatchI smashed hard into a guy on his cell phone a few years ago13:39
hatchhe drove out of a parking lot while looking the wrong way....13:39
hatch^ probably not the cell phones fault, he was probably just super stupid13:40
rick_h__heh13:40
rick_h__well I bought a stick on my subaru because I did catch myself on my phone13:40
rick_h__makes it darn hard and broke my habit13:40
hatchhonestly though people used to text on the wheel while sortof watching the road, now that it's illegal they have to look down to 'hide' it13:40
rick_h__I'm all for killing it, maybe I do too much local/city driving that there's plenty of places to stop, and too much going on to not be looking13:41
hatchyeah I don't think people should be doing it either13:42
hatchbut it's not the cell phone/texting that's the problem13:42
hatchit's the stupid people13:42
hatchrick_h__ is this what your kids christmas list looks like? https://plus.google.com/113544134561435695482/posts/iBJwdcELap813:46
hatchlol13:46
rick_h__nice13:47
rick_h__hatch: heh, "My kid knows how to use goo.gl"13:48

gary_posterour charm rocks everything but mysql: http://store-charts.labix.org/#precise-downloads-last-week13:51
rick_h__woot!13:51
hatchniiiiice13:51
hatchhow many of those are us?13:51
hatch:P13:51
* hatch runs13:51
rick_h__and it's going to go up when people try out quickstart13:51
gary_posterhatch :-P we do use the ~juju-gui charm a decent amount at least13:52
gary_posterso we only pollute the stats *somewhat* :-)13:52
hatchhaha yeah13:52
rick_h__here, this will help13:52
rick_h__jcastro: http://jujugui.wordpress.com/2013/12/05/new-juju-gui-0-14-0-juju-quickstart-0-5-0/ dude it auto logs you into the gui now! :)13:53
gary_poster:-)13:53
hatchwe need to get DAU's for the gui :)13:53
jcastroI saw, that is awesome!13:53
rick_h__lol and he leaves13:53
gary_posterheh13:53
gary_posterwe can probably get DAU via the analytics stuff13:54
rick_h__Defense Acquisition University ?13:54
hatchdo we have any unique identifiers?13:55
hatchrick_h__ daily active users13:55
gary_posterDaily active users.  just need to set the charm's GA id to something unique13:55
* gary_poster taking kids to school13:55
rick_h__what's that browser tagging mechanism. That'll work :)13:55
hatchhaha13:55
hatchthe 'perma-cookie' 13:55
rick_h__https://panopticlick.eff.org/ there you go13:56
hatchoh noes I'm unique13:56
hatchit's crazy that it can get my system fonts from the browser13:57
rick_h__heh, not here. No Flash or Java fonts detected13:58
rick_h__so there's your method for getting it13:58
hatchno Flash?13:58
hatchwell I guess you don't even use a real mail client :P13:58
rick_h__nope, mutt baby!13:58
rick_h__I block flash by default13:59
rick_h__if I want to see it, I'll click on it to enable it13:59
hatchohh I suppose I should get a plugin for that13:59
rick_h__yep13:59
rick_h__I don't run ad-block, but I will block auto playing flash video craps13:59
hatchwhich one do you use?13:59

* gary_poster back14:19
jcastrohey hatch sorry for being lazy and not looking, but did you nginx up Ghost or just using the built in thing?14:54
hatchjcastro it uses it's internal server atm14:54
hatchI haven't had the time to charm up nginx or learn how to use the apache charm14:54
jcastroHey so I remembered that someone was working on nginx: https://jujucharms.com/fullscreen/search/~imbrandon/precise/nginx-7/?text=nginx#bws-readme14:54
jcastroit might be worth seeing if it's worth it to have it be a subordinate or something you can just attach to other stuff14:55
hatchyeah I saw these but nothing looked up to date14:55
jcastroindeed14:55
hatchunfortunately I just simply don't have a lot of free time these days haha 14:56
hatchi would like to get the ghost charm approved though so I could blog about it14:57
hatchgary_poster so I was able to dramatically speed up the issue down to about 0.5-1s from 3s by removing some code that I don't think we even use any more heh15:10
hatchit's still feels very sluggish though15:11
gary_posterhatch, heh, nice to remove code though :-)15:16
hatchMakyo are you in yet?15:16
hatchgary_poster http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~juju-gui/juju-gui/trunk/view/head:/app/views/viewlets/service-overview.js#L459 to 477 can be removed without consequence and removes a TON of DOM queries 15:18
hatchI just want to confirm that it doesn't have some hidden functionality that I just can't figure out15:18
hatch:)15:18
gary_poster:-) on calls15:18
hatchoh right, sorry15:19
gary_posterjujugui I need to be at an IS/CDO meeting at the same time as our standup.  Two requests.  (1) I would like one volunteer to run today's team standup.  (2) I'd also like to have a volunteer to join me on the IS call to eventually take point for https://bugs.launchpad.net/juju-gui/+bug/1249473 .  Bueller?15:44
_mup_Bug #1249473: jujucharms.com just spins at connecting to the environment <juju-gui:Triaged> <https://launchpad.net/bugs/1249473>15:44
hatch1) I can15:45
hatch2) I can15:45
hatchoh wait15:45
gary_poster#2 will be to coordinate with the plan I wrote up from my discussion with elmo15:45
gary_posterlol15:45
rick_h__no take backsies15:45
hatchgary_poster I can do both if they can be consecutive 15:45
hatchbut I'm guessing that's not the case15:45
MakyoI'll do the standup if not.15:45
gary_posterif they were consecutive I wouldn't need 1 ;-)15:46
rick_h__lol15:46
hatchhah ok15:46
hatchMakyo you got the standup15:46
MakyoGot it.15:46
rick_h__hmmm, maybe we should allow some backsies15:46
gary_poster:-) 15:46
gary_posterok thanks hatch15:46
hatchrick_h__ no you're not getting out of CI duty15:46
gary_posterthanks Makyo 15:46
rick_h__hatch: :P almost there man15:46
hatchhaha you gota admit it's pretty darn cool15:46

hatchMakyo when you get a chance http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~juju-gui/juju-gui/trunk/view/head:/app/views/viewlets/service-overview.js#L459 to 477 can be removed without consequence as far as I can tell and removes a TON of DOM queries - do you know why this was here in the first place?16:00
benjimarcoceppi: do you want me to land the project niceties branch?16:05
Makyohatch, those add the landscape URLs next to the unit names.  Is that not true anymore?16:09
hatchMakyo it's not doing it as far as I can tell in the simulator 16:09
hatchis it supposed to work in the simulator?16:09
MakyoI think so?  Let me try.16:10
Makyohatch, it's not adding the link, but I believe it's supposed to.16:13
hatchok beside the unit names in the landscape section?16:13
MakyoYeah, like the 'Upgrade' link next to the units in upgrade service16:14
hatchthanks for confirming16:15
hatchnow I just need to add them back in in a more performant way :)16:16
marcoceppibenji: see feedback, thanks again. Sorry it's been a busy week. I'll be more responsive to your reviews16:31
hatchmarcoceppi see what you get when you take time off? You just have to do that weeks worth of work the week you come back :P16:32
marcoceppihatch: I know :( I was inbox 0 before I left, now I'm so far behind it'll take another week off of work to catch up! :P16:33
hatchhaha16:33
hatchgary_poster whenever you have a moment I can give you a quick update on the perf issue16:35
gary_posterhatch, awesome.  https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/72cpjlk8sivm3i2qg3j9mslu1k?hl=en ?16:36
benjimarcoceppi: I've replied to your review notes on https://codereview.appspot.com/36190043/16:41
jcsackettgary_poster: a few weeks ago we talked about reports being added to charmworld. just letting you know that while we are now crafting reports, we're not adding them on charmworld after all, so no worries about us needing to coordinate efforts.16:43
gary_posterok thanks for update jcsackett 16:43
marcoceppibenji: how do I approve the review in codereview?16:44
marcoceppior do I do that in LP?16:44
* marcoceppi has never used codereview16:45
frankbangary_poster: time for a quick call?16:47

rick_h__jujugui please make sure you 'publicize your membership' in the juju members list. https://github.com/juju?tab=members17:28
rick_h__jujugui and make sure you've added your work email and set it as the default for the juju org in https://github.com/settings/notifications17:29
benjirick_h__: when you say "default" do you mean "primary"?  If so, why?17:30
rick_h__benji: just so that notifications for things go to your work account17:30
rick_h__benji: it's optional, just supposed most want gui emails to go to work address17:30
benjirick_h__: you can set notification email on a per-project basis; that's what I've done17:30
rick_h__benji: right, that link should show the projects at the bottom?17:31
rick_h__under notification email17:31
benjiyep17:31
rick_h__sorry, I guess default wasn't a good word. 17:31
hatchbenji like this https://www.evernote.com/shard/s219/sh/d2465177-0496-4771-a712-0337a29e2649/34afd365fb61ff1c2674abea0e91119617:32
benjiyep17:32
rick_h__hatch: yes, he's saying he's done that. I mentioned default which he read as I was asking him to change the primary. 17:32
rick_h__no never mind, carry on all :)17:32
hatchohh sorry17:32
benjiwouldn't want my Zope Foundation emails going to @canonical.com17:33
rick_h__heh17:33
* hatch googles Zope17:33
rick_h__hatch: where's your branch at? You've got the only gui branch in progress so tempted to put the freeze on now and work on getting the gui into github 17:33
rick_h__doh, sorry benji guess you do as well17:34
hatchrick_h__ do what you will mine will take a while17:34
rick_h__benji: if I move over this after noon vs tomorrow morning does it help/hurt your branch?17:34
rick_h__hatch: rgr, thanks17:34
hatchand I have to prep for my YUITheater call this afternoon17:34
benjirick_h__: It shouldn't affect me17:34
rick_h__benji: k, will start then17:35
benjiin fact, I'm starting to wonder if my first branch will contain any code :)17:35
hatchhaha17:35
hatchbest-branches-ever!17:35
benji:)17:35
rick_h__jujugui porting the repo over to github and will be working on getting the CI hooked in. If you need to land anything hold up please. 17:35
hatchjujugui the deprecated returnValue error in Chrome has been fixed in YUI trunk, so on it's next release we will need to upgrade https://github.com/yui/yui3/pull/146017:35
hatchfinally my github grid will be full of green squares17:36
Makyofrankban, still around for a bit?17:38
frankbanMakyo: yes17:38

Makyofrankban, https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/72cpjm9srhmt8t2urpku6lcnjc?hl=en17:40
marcoceppiWhat's the API URL? I thought it was https://manage.jujucharms.com/api/3/charms17:46
rick_h__marcoceppi: yea, https://manage.jujucharms.com/api/3/charm/precise/mysql is working17:48
rick_h__what were you looking to grab?17:48
marcoceppirick_h__: search endpoint17:48
marcoceppithat link above gives me a 40417:48
marcoceppinot yours, but mine17:48
rick_h__marcoceppi: right, that's not a valid api url17:48
marcoceppirick_h__: wheres the one I can filter against?17:49
rick_h__https://manage.jujucharms.com/api/3/search?text=apache17:51
marcoceppiOh, search. Weird. I thought it was charms17:51
rick_h__yea, not sure on that17:51
rick_h__http://charmworld.readthedocs.org/en/latest/api.html states it as /search though17:51
marcoceppirick_h__: OHH, charms was a v2 endpoint17:52
marcoceppidamnit, this makes things harder17:52
marcoceppihttps://manage.jujucharms.com/api/2/charms17:52
hatchjuju quickstart tells me ""sudo privileges required to bootstrap the environment"" even though it was run with sudo 18:03
hatchbug?18:03
hatchgary_poster I formatted/copied/reworded your post on the guiblog hope that's ok :) http://fromanegg.com/post/69088510986/new-releases-juju-gui-0-14-0-juju-quickstart-0-5-0 18:06
jcastrohah man guys, I totally missed local charm deployment in the release announcement18:12
jcastrojawesome18:12
hatchwoah18:13
hatchno18:13
hatchwhat?18:13
rick_h__hatch: quickstart uses a local copy of the charm I think is what he means18:13
rick_h__hatch: not any charm from local18:13
hatchohh *phew*18:13
hatchI was like "no plz don't say that!!!!"18:13
hatchhaha18:13
jcastrooh18:14
jcastroso I am confused18:14
hatchwhere is the confusion?18:14
jcastroI was assuming I can just drag and drop a local charm into the GUI?18:15
hatchohh no18:15
hatchdrag a 'deployer' file18:15
hatchI'll add that word18:15
jcastrodeployer file or bundle?18:15
hatchyou can drag and drop a deployer file18:15
hatchjcastro ""You can now drag and drop a bundle deployer file or the Charm browser."" better?18:16
jcastrolet's just roll with "bundle" for everything I think18:16
jcastroif we start interchanging bundle and "deployer file" it'll just confuse people18:16
hatch""You can now drag and drop from a bundle file or the Charm browser.""18:17
jcastro\o/18:17
hatchchanged!18:17
hatchjcastro fyi core is working on the supporting infrastructure we need for local charm deployment via the gui 18:19
hatchnot idea on eta though18:19
rick_h__dammit, test-prod won't pass on the jenkins box.18:23
rick_h__oh lovely, add a console.error and it passes18:23
rick_h__wheeee for stable tests18:24
hatchrick_h__ *facepalm*18:25
hatchI have some ideas on some test refactoring but you know....18:25
rick_h__I get this sometimes as well in the fixture to load json data18:25
rick_h__I think the ci machine is fast enough to hit a timing issue18:26
hatchohh yeah I hit that all-the-time18:26
hatchwe need to cache that18:26
hatchthat's priority 1 on my test refactoring list18:26
hatchhmm I found a bug with quickstart18:29
hatch`juju status` doesn't work18:29
hatchcannot read environment info for "local": open /home/hatch/.juju/environments/local.jenv: permission denied18:30
frankbanhatch: this is an error from core a suspect, who owns that file?18:33
hatchfrankban root18:33
rick_h__heh, it's because you were sudo :)18:33
hatchit said I had to be18:33
hatch""sudo privileges required to bootstrap the environment""18:33
hatchit even said that AFTER I used sudo :)18:33
frankbanhatch: that's true indeed, you can try deleting that file and then starting quickstart again18:34
hatchfrankban should I file this as a bug somewhere?18:34
frankbanhatch: still not sure, jenv files are not created by quickstart and juju-core should write them with the correct permissions18:35
hatchhmm becuase this is the same machine I usually use for juju lxc testing and i've never run into that before18:36
hatchI can do some more digging18:37
hatchI just ran an upgrade so maybe something else broke18:37
frankbanhatch: wait, you used "sudo juju quickstart"?18:42
hatchyeah18:43
hatchit said I had to 18:43
frankbanhatch: no, it was asking your password to become sudo18:43
hatchohh, we should clarify that :)18:43
hatchi'll try now without sudo18:44
frankbanhatch: and explaining why it requires sudo privileges: maybe we should, but it subsequently asks for your password18:44
frankbanhatch: now you need to remove that jenv file18:44
frankbanhatch: before retrying18:44
frankbanhatch: also check  /home/hatch/.juju/environments/ permissions18:46
hatchfrankban if I don't use sudo I get this error https://gist.github.com/hatched/3e8a13af98250c236c9d18:46
frankbanhatch: what files/dirs do you have in your .juju?18:50
rick_h__jujugui it's up https://github.com/juju/juju-gui/pull/218:51
Makyo\o/18:52
* benji pulls a rope and confetti falls from the rafters.18:52
hatchfrankban charmcache/ current-environment environments/ entironments.yaml local/ local-cert.pem local-private-key.pem18:52
hatchyay!!! go rick_h__ !18:52
frankbanhatch: delete the environments/ and local/ dirs, and retry18:52
hatchrick_h__ can we PLEASE use ╯□)╯︵-┻━┻ for merges18:53
hatchfrankban ok18:53
hatchtrying18:53
frankban:-)18:53
rick_h__hatch: veto18:53
hatchfrankban same18:53
hatchrick_h__ so is there an idiots-guide-to-using-the-gui-with-github somewhere now?18:54
gary_posterrick_h__, awesome!18:54
gary_posterhatch, nice blog post.  you made all the images I thought about making and left out. :-) I should steal from you!18:55
hatchhaha feel free!18:55
frankbanhatch: any file in your juju home still owned by root?18:55
rick_h__jujugui so everyone please go press the fork button https://github.com/juju/juju-gui18:56
hatchfrankban the (newly created) local/ has an agents/ and server.pem which is owned by root18:56
hatchI had deleted that directory as requested18:56
gary_posterrick_h__, forked18:57
Makyoforked18:57
frankbanhatch: that's ok, what about the db?18:57
frankbanlocal/db18:57
benjiWe need to rename README.txt to REAME.rst (stupid github)18:57
gary_posteryeah18:57
hatchfrankban journal/ and mongod.lock is owned by root18:57
hatchforked18:58
frankbanhatch: readable by all?18:58
hatch-rwsr-xr-x18:58
hatcher18:58
hatch-rwxr-xr-x18:58
frankbanhatch: same here, but I don't have that error, juju version?18:59
hatch1.16.4-precise-amd6418:59
hatchon 12.0418:59
frankbanhatch: last idea, sudo juju destroy-environment -y and then remove those files again, then retry19:03
hatchfrankban same19:03
frankbanhatch: and the same just with "sudo juju bootstrap -e local" I suppose19:04
hatchit sits for a bit on ""sudo privileges required to bootstrap the environment"" then throws that error19:04
hatchtrying19:04
hatchfrankban right....19:04
hatchcrap19:04
hatchasking in juju-dev19:05
frankbanhatch: yeah, quickstart just reports errors from juju-core in those cases. pinging core devs can be a good idea19:06
hatchalright thanks, sorry to bother you, I probably should have tried doing it normally first :)19:06
frankbanhatch: np, if that message was confusing for you we should fix it. please feel free to file a bug, (... and propose a branch, merge it, fix the bug :-)19:09
hatchlol19:10
hatchwell it's supposed to prompt me to enter the password?19:10
hatchI haven't even gotten that far yet I guess19:10
frankbanhatch: it prompts you right after that message, but it avoids doing that if your password is already in the sudo cache19:12
hatchohh ok19:12
frankbanhatch: FWIW sudo -k deletes the cache19:12
hatchahh ok now I get it19:13
frankbanhatch: cool, EOD, have a nice evening19:14
hatchyou too19:14
hatchcya19:14
gary_posterhey marcoceppi or rick_h__ , does proof already enforce that a charm have a maintainer?  If so, could you clarify whether that's for charm store ingestion or promotion into "recommended" status?19:21
marcoceppigary_poster: proof has it, but it's not required by charm store ingestion. It's just a warning19:22
marcoceppiThere are, I believe, 7 charms currently in the store with no maintainer field19:22
gary_postermarcoceppi, ack.  But we require it for recommended charms?  This is from a discussion with sabdfl, fwiw19:22
marcoceppigary_poster: describe recommended19:22
marcoceppiis that promulgated charms, or charms we highlight?19:23
gary_postermarcoceppi, promulgated.  19:23
marcoceppiIt's been required since it was added, however, there is somethng like 7 promulgated charms without maintainers a19:23
marcoceppicharms that were promulgated prior to it being policy19:23
gary_postermarcoceppi, ack, thank you.19:24
marcoceppigary_poster: I've got a slack task to find maintainers for these charms19:24
marcoceppijust haven't had time to do so. I might mail the list and say they'll be removed in X days if no one steps up19:24
gary_postermarcoceppi, cool.  Yeah, I think the X days warning sounds like a good way to go19:25
marcoceppigary_poster: also, most all oneiric charms don't have maintainers19:28
marcoceppiand are in the store19:29
* marcoceppi cant' wait to sunset oneiric charms19:29
gary_postermarcoceppi, :-/ ack19:29
hatchrick_h__ how do we see why CI failed?19:35
rick_h__hatch: which one?19:35
hatchhttp://ci.jujugui.org:8080/job/juju-gui/16/19:35
rick_h__hatch: that's the same failure as I was getting before19:35
rick_h__it's the erratic failure in the json loading test helper19:35
rick_h__same place every time19:35
rick_h__retry and it works :/19:36
rick_h__see the later manual run19:36
hatchright, but where does it say that?19:36
gary_posterhatch, click on "Console OUtput"19:36

gary_posterscroll to bottom19:36
hatchohh ok now I see19:36
hatchcool thanks19:36
gary_posterwelcome19:37
rick_h__oh heh :)19:37
rick_h__yea, welcome to the aweome UI of jenkins 19:37
rick_h__benji: readme updated 19:38
hatchrick_h__ before you're done you should include caching the json calls in our tests as part of your CI work :) It's gota be reliable afterall .....19:38
* rick_h__ *sighs* 19:38
rick_h__you mean ditches this whole test runner? :P19:38
hatchlol well locally it's the huge IO caused by the multiple json requests which crashes the tests19:41
hatchso as long as we cache that we should solve the major issue19:42
rick_h__hatch: not sure, I didn't check to see if that one is the first or a subsequent pass on that data file19:42
hatchsubsequent 19:43
hatcha lot of times19:43
hatchhaha19:43
rick_h__heh, k19:43
hatchbasically I figure we should never make two requests for the same file19:44
hatchthere are a lot of image requests and whatnot19:44
hatchthat we should fix too19:44
rick_h__loading the file shoudn't fail. :/ it's a sync operation19:44
hatch-every- crash locally is during an IO call19:45
hatchmy guess is that 'something' gets overwhelmed and it just shuts down 19:46
* rick_h__ runs away for the day. 20:04
hatchcyaz20:13
