[01:42] Hello [04:26] Bugreporting has 2 wrongs: [04:26] 1. Being only available for (L)Ubuntu-users makes it a real hussle [04:27] 2. Being only available on a (L)Ubuntu system makes impossible to report bugs which prevent a successful instalation [04:27] for me that is, since my old computer died, and my new one comes with windows to start with [04:29] ExploWare: anyone can report [04:29] !bug [04:29] If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs. [04:30] there are ways to report from any OS.. any web browser [04:30] the command ubuntu-bug is not available for windows;) [04:30] ExploWare: and, thats not the *only* way to report [04:30] Oh, I didn't see those on the site [04:31] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReportingBugs doesnt refer to any other way of reporting [04:32] So I report my bug here: the Desktop installer for 13.10 crashes, but thats reported in the known bugs, BUT: That means I need the Alternative installer, which doesn't work with USB keyboards on systems [04:32] !bugs | ExploWare [04:32] ExploWare: If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs. [04:32] ExploWare: the bit about "for other ways to report bugs" [04:33] So I report my bug here: the Desktop installer for 13.10 crashes, but thats reported in the known bugs, BUT: That means I need the Alternative installer, which doesn't work with USB keyboards (on systems which do have PS/2 connectors) [04:33] ExploWare: the wiki's are editable as well, if you feel something else needs to be referenced [04:33] ExploWare: this is not the place to report bugs.. you could get someone to help confirm a bug.. [04:34] ExploWare: i woul confirm the md5 sum.. i would try nomodeset [04:37] it happens to be a known bug on google, just not on lubuntu launchpad [04:37] http://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=63 [04:38] !kali [04:38] There are some Ubuntu derivatives that we cannot provide support for due to repository and software changes. Please consult their websites for more information. Examples: gNewSense (support in #gnewsense), Linux Mint (see !mint), kali-linux (#kali-linux), CrunchBang (support in #crunchbang), BackTrack (support in #backtrack-linux) [04:38] ExploWare: if you are using kali, use their support venues.. lubuntu/ubuntu doesnt use the kali bug tracker [04:38] exactly my point, isn't it? [04:38] I'm using Lubuntu [04:39] kali has already resolved this issue [04:39] ExploWare: kali is not ubuntu.. nor lubuntu [04:39] ExploWare: the issue could be quite different.. or irrelevant [04:40] i would download the normal lubuntu iso, not the alternate.. confirm the md5 sum [04:40] !md5 [04:40] To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows [04:40] nope... to bad it is quite the same issue and very likely to be the same. Since there are lubuntu users reporting the problem [04:40] then, if you get a black screen, try.. [04:40] !nomodeset [04:40] A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter [04:41] ExploWare: then, if you still have issues, try and be more specific about the error messages you are getting either here, and/or a mailing list, or in a bug report.. try and get someone to confirm the issue [04:41] I'm a quite experienced user, MD5 hashes matched, destop and alternative. Nomodeset is a thing I can try, although it has nothing to do with the graphics [04:42] ExploWare: what specifically is the issue then? if not the graphics? [04:43] and jumping back to the reporting bugs: I can not find anything on other ways for reporting [04:44] holstein: The keyboard does not work [04:46] The boot menu (first thing to show when booting from a USB disk or DVD) works, I can select the right line, for example Install Lubuntu of Check disk for errors [04:47] but when I select Install Lubuntu it starts the installer, and comes up with the language selection. At that point the keyboard (nor mouse for that matter) work. The powerlight on my mouse is even switched off) [04:48] Like in the bug reported on the Kali site I just showed you in a link [04:48] It's most likely the init.rd package doesn't have/load the HID module [04:51] ExploWare: you can just go to launchpad and report from there [04:52] http://4chandata.org/g/trying-to-install-lubuntuboot-from-CDlanguage-selection-screenno-keyboardOS-war-general-a147117 [04:52] ExploWare: the iso load fine for me, and many others.. so its likely related to some of your hardware specifically [04:52] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1017635 [04:52] Ubuntu bug 1017879 in linux (Ubuntu Quantal) "duplicate for #1017635 External USB keyboard stops working when d-i starts" [Critical,Fix released] [04:53] ExploWare: so, the only issue is the USB keyboard failing during the install? [04:54] Yes [04:55] all i can think of are work arounds [04:55] And that only applies to the ALTERNATIVE installer [04:55] ExploWare: why not use the regular one? [04:55] have you tried the mini iso? does it meet your needs? [04:55] !mini [04:55] The Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want. The installer is text based (rather than graphical as used on the Desktop DVD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD [04:56] and I need that one since the DESKTOP image has a known bug affecting me [04:57] ExploWare: the desktop one will likely be getting the most attention.. so the alternate doesnt work with the USB.. the desktop has a different bug? and you havnet commented about the mini.. correct? [04:59] Correct. So: is there a miniCD for Lubuntu ? Or will I be able to select a Lubuntu-desktop package during such an instalation [04:59] ExploWare: the mini is mini.. has no DE. its small you install and add what you like/want/need afterwards [04:59] Ah, ok [04:59] ExploWare: i havent been in a scnario where i have bothered with USB like that during the install [05:00] i did run into that on a server machine i was sitting up that had only USB and no PS/2, years back.. but i just took the hard drive to another box and installed [05:00] I will give the minicd a try than. Thank you for thinking along [12:43] is it possible to automatically switch to desktop the active application-window is on? like click on thundebirds incoming mail popup and switch to the desktop thunderbird uses [14:51] how many people are working for lubuntu? [14:53] dead people
