AceKingFor some reason I have multiple volume slides when I click on my volume icon down by the clock. If I play a youtube video, I can't just use the scroll wheel on the mouse to lower, or raise the volume. I have to click on the icon, and choose the slide I want to adjust. Is there a way to unify the volume slides?00:01
AceKingI just figured it out. I changed the preferred sound card in Phonon00:05

unknwnquick question, i installed libboost-dev-all.16:26
unknwnwhere can i find the files to include in the project.16:26
unknwnsorry if its obvious just switched from windows to ubuntu16:26
sithlord48unknwn:  generally included files are in /usr/include16:27
unknwnok let me check :)16:28
sithlord48unknwn: you can also use muon package manager to view a packages installed files (click on the package and then installed files on the lower tab area)16:28
unknwnive used synaptic16:28
sithlord48unknwn: you can view in synaptic as well . just don't remember if its in the same location16:29
unknwnok its there thanks :)16:29
unknwnsorry i am still a newbie on ubuntu16:30
sithlord48your welcome . you shouldn't have to include the full path something like #include <boost> should work the system will check /usr/lib16:30
sithlord48using ubuntu or kubuntu?16:30
unknwnkubuntu16:31
sithlord48ok might want to refer to it as such when asking for help about GUI stuff . the main differenace this the GUI parts.16:31
daroktharunknwn the .so files are located at: /usr/lib/16:31
sithlord48same you some extra confusion.16:31
unknwnthanks darokthar16:32
unknwnwell i love kubuntu so far i must say16:33
unknwnhope programming on it will be a breeze in the future16:33
daroktharunknwn: If you are using cmake be sure to put set(Boost_USE_MULTITHREADED OFF) in CMakeLists.txt at least for me there are no *mt.so files. This therefore cmake will argue that it can't find the libraries16:33
sithlord48kde is awesome .it can do just abotu anything. and coding on linux is WAY better then doing it on windows or mac . if only because of the packagemanagement make is really easy to start.16:34
daroktharI have not yet found out, why there are no multi-threading library files. I didn't investigat cause i don't need them16:34
daroktharBut you could compile them yourself if you need them.16:34
unknwni see, well thats gonna be allot of reading i guess before im all set16:35
daroktharIt's less work than on windows with cygwin16:35
sithlord48unknwn:  what kind of app are you making?16:36
unknwnwell im working on all sorts of apps really16:36
unknwni freelance16:36
unknwnbut i took this whole month off to switch to linux16:36
unknwni figured i can develop on linux and later compile it on windows for customers16:37
sithlord48well for gui i would highly recommend QT and qtcreator . easy as pie cross platform, only need to build same code on differnt os16:37
daroktharAnd less | grep is a good friend when searching trough big not well documented projects16:37
unknwni already use qt creator16:37
unknwni used it before also in combination with visual studio16:37
daroktharYeah qt rocks16:37
unknwnohw yeah better then what microsoft provides16:37
daroktharThe documentation for qt is awesome16:37
unknwnthats why i figured why stick with this crap if i can move to linux16:38
sithlord48i would use qt creator on windows over visual studio any day16:38
sithlord48im not the best qt coder but if you need help feel free to ask16:38
unknwnwell i got trained with visual studio in school so that was my go to software16:38
unknwnbut i also do feel qt creator is better16:39
daroktharAnd writing programs with qt just feels good. Far better than trying to write something with the windows api...16:39
sithlord48school visual studio is all they teach.16:39
unknwnyup, i wonder why :P16:39
daroktharCause they get it cheap from microsoft, which makes them feel like they should use it.16:39
sithlord48yeah those discounted $500 student copies are so good...16:39
unknwnwhy use it though when you get free stuff16:40
sithlord48the free stuff is better , code made w/ use in mind not profit.16:41
unknwnand ofc not to forget the hidden bugs in visual studio that takes years to get solved16:41
=== fego is now known as codemaniac
daroktharWhen something is free most people think it is worth nothing. But if you get a program which costs a few thousand $ with a big discount it feels like making a good deal.16:41
unknwnsounds something my gf would do :P16:42
daroktharExactly16:42
sithlord48very spot on darokthar16:42
unknwnbut yeah im not gaming also anymore so why keep when then right16:43
=== thomas is now known as Guest59823
unknwnwindows16:43
unknwnand the new windows 8 makes you feel like an idiot when you just want to program16:43
daroktharLinux is fare better know with gaming then a few years ago. A lot of games run fine with wine. And valve is pusing it at the moment.16:43
unknwnwell i did try left 4 dead 2 but it stutters16:43
sithlord48wait till mesa 10 and the newer x stack and drivers hit kubuntu :D16:44
unknwni did manage to get hearts of iron 3 to run on kubuntu16:45
unknwnand it runs pretty smooth16:45
daroktharGabe Newell was impressed by the speed of the linux kernel. He thinks it is better than windows if you would like to write fast code. Becaust the kernel is really well optimized.16:45
unknwnyeah i switched my servers already to linux16:46
daroktharAt least that is what i remember from some interview16:46
unknwnand i must say it saved me allot in hardware costs16:46
sithlord48servers running linux  is a good idea.16:46
daroktharAnd they are easier to maintain because almost everything is configured in textfiles which could be edited easy.16:46
unknwnyes i know now but at school it was windows here and windows there16:46
unknwnand just speaking about linux felt like blasphemy16:47
sithlord48its nice you can use the cli . not even run X locally and still be able to ssh or NX in if you need to.16:47
unknwnwell it is a big switch but i must say everything runs smoother16:47
sithlord48they are fools. i know people like them . never used anything but windows but talk about another os and they start sputing FUD.16:48
unknwnand almost no more system resets wich is nice :)16:48
daroktharYeah, if you got linux running it will run for years without any hickups. And if something goes wrong it is usually logged somewhere16:48
daroktharNot like windows. Where you will have to guess and then trial and error till you get a solution.16:49
sithlord48also is much easier to set up now then it used to be.16:49
daroktharhttp://devo.ps/blog/2013/03/06/troubleshooting-5minutes-on-a-yet-unknown-box.html Like this blogpost.16:50
daroktharTry this with windows16:50
sithlord48i remember when i was using mandrake (7) the install was a dozen cd's  with almost completely manually package selection.16:51
daroktharThe last actions with a wizard are never logged. You will never find recent changes...16:51
unknwnyeah and honestly that made me stop using mandrake16:51
sithlord48well i had a problem too , i would install like every package cause why not right? and things would be broken16:52
daroktharIf you are running a server it might be worth the effort. Software not running on a system is no security risk.16:52
sithlord48gnome , kde , open box sure. oh lets get sawfish as well try that out..16:53
unknwnyeah that was my 10 year old self16:53
unknwnjust install everything that would be fine :P16:53
daroktharYeah, but after a while you stick with the stuff you like and skip the rest.16:53
unknwnwell back there i kinda gave up16:53
unknwnalso since no game was running on mandrake16:53
unknwnonly tux racer :P16:53
sithlord48that kind of stuff seamed to not work so well w/ mandrake. i was maybe 14 . would need to reinstall all the time16:53
sithlord48tux racer worked good16:54
unknwnyeah but it gets boring quick16:54
sithlord48sure did16:54
daroktharI had quake III running. But as there were no decent ati drivers it sucked... But this the fault of ati and not of linux.16:54
sithlord48i think when i ran mandrake i had a geforce 2 w/ 16mb of ram or so. i had to use teh nvidia driver, worked 1/2 the time . i didn't understand the X set up much either knowing it could have helped a lot.16:56
unknwnits now called mandriva not?16:57
sithlord48think so i have not followed it much i switch from that to random distros for a while when i could download them. used openSuse for a bit then debian then eventually kubuntu16:58
unknwnwell lets hope this month i can switch all my work over16:59
unknwnand ill be a happy man17:00
sithlord48i have switched maybe 30 people over in the past few years to kubuntu just because i refuse to fix windows its a waste of time its just gonna break again.17:00
unknwnwell the reason i switched was because skype pushed me a update that was bound to a virus17:01
unknwnno way how they did it but that was the end for me17:01
unknwnmy typing is awsome when im drunk lol :P17:02
sithlord48i stoped using windows around the release of vista, needed new hardware didn't want to buy it . had been using linux on and off and figured it was now stable enuff for my needs. have not been back since.17:03
unknwnwell trust me windows 8 will make you wanna switch17:03
sithlord48have not used win8 yet i have run win 7 in vms for building but not really much else.17:04
unknwntrust me its shit17:04
unknwnthis new interface17:04
unknwnthey try to turn your desktop computer into a tablet pc17:05
sithlord48yeah one interface to rule them all plasma workspace..17:08
daroktharI'll stick with kde. I'm used to it since 1996. But my 81 year old aunt wants to learn how to use a pc. I'll install here ubuntu with the unity desktop.17:13
daroktharThree icons and thats it.17:13
daroktharLibre office Firefox and Thunderbird.17:13
daroktharThen an increased font size and bigger icons.17:14
sithlord48why not just do it w/ kde ?17:14
daroktharI would have to configure more. Throw out every plasmoid she does not need etc. I think unity is cleaner from the start. And if she likes to get a smart phone i could try to grab a ubuntu phone.17:15
daroktharThen she will feel home on her phone asap17:16
daroktharIf she ever likes to get a smartphone.17:16
sithlord48guess if they release an ubuntu phone anytime soon17:16
daroktharAt the moment she is confused by her phones. The lcd displays and the menues are not intuitive enough and the font sizes are too small17:17
unknwnthey actually sell phones already with ubuntu touch?17:21
daroktharunknwn not yet. But i guess if my aunt ever wants to get a smartphone it will be released17:25
unknwnyeah get a nexus 5 then :P17:25
unknwnim also selling my lumia so i can buy a nexus 517:26
