Gaming4JCHello, I got the idea that my webhost Ubuntu Server doesn't have enough space for e.g. the uploads folder. Is it possible to have a folder accessible to the main server while actually uploading to the second server? If so what program/method would you guys suggest?01:03
jrwrenGaming4JC: are you looking for a network filesystem?  NFS?01:12
sarnoldnfs? cifs? ceph? nbd? iscsi? s3 or similar "object" storage?01:13
Gaming4JCjrwren: perhaps. My idea is to have a website to provide package files for a distro, however I can't mirror them all on one server since the HDD is too small.01:13
Gaming4JCso I wanted to break it up by having one of the biggest folders on another server, while still acessible for anyone downloading01:13
Gaming4JCfrom the main url.01:13
jrwrenGaming4JC: if it is just web, use a CDN01:13
Gaming4JCright but I'm too cheap for paying for a CDN, I'd rather make my own :D01:14
Gaming4JCsarnold: jrwren: NFS + remote mounting should do the trick, thanks for the tip guys :)01:28
sarnoldGaming4JC: cool :) have fun!01:29

mattcenHi all. I'm trying to debug a running cupsd instance with gdb (I want to check it's calling a specific function). I've tried installing cups-dbg, followed by cups-dbgsym (from ddebs.ubuntu.com), but no matter how invoke gdb, It says it can't find debugging symbols for /usr/sbin/cupsd. Any ideas?07:53
sarnolddoes it need to be gdb? ltrace or latrace may be easier07:53
mattcenI've never heard of either of them07:54
mattcenThey appear not to be available on Lucid (yes, I realise I'm dealing with a really old OS, please don't judge; it'll be going away in a couple of months)07:55
mattcenOh nevermind, I wasn't looking hard enough07:55
sarnoldmattcen: latrace perhaps not, I only found out about it a few weeks back; but ltrace is as old as the hills..07:56
mattcenDoesn't look like it's giving my anything useful07:57
mattcen"unexpected breakpoint" followed by "Child exited"07:58
sarnold!07:58
sarnoldwell that's strange07:58
mattcenEither way, in order to inspect the contents of the binaries I need to be able to load the symbols, and that's what appears to be failing07:58
mattcenKeep in mind this is a running instance; it may behave differently if I started a new instance07:59
sarnoldright :/08:00
mattcenOh dear. Cups forks into the background, and it's not letting me follow the process (if I start a new cups instance that is)08:01
mattcenSo yeah, new ideas appreciated...08:02

pjetrHi, a bit of a noob question. I've removed ruby 1.8 and installed 2.0 by compiling it from sources. The command ruby still points to the old /usr/bin/ruby instead of /usr/local/bin/ruby09:51
pjetrhow do I update this?09:51
pjetrokay, and could anybody help me rephrase that so that I get results when I google?10:04

zetheroo!webmin12:02
ubottuwebmin is no longer supported in Debian and Ubuntu. It is not compatible with the way that Ubuntu packages handle configuration files, and is likely to cause unexpected issues with your system.12:02
zetherooI am wondering if there is any more specifics relating to this issue with webmin from the Official Ubuntu camp .. !?12:03
rbasakzetheroo: I'm not sure that anybody in the "Ubuntu camp" actually uses or develops webmin.12:16
rbasakzetheroo: so if you use webmin, you quite severely limit the number of people who might understand the situation and be able to help you if you get stuck.12:17
rbasakzetheroo: however, it's all free software, right? So there's nothing to stop you from using it.12:18
jamespagezul, golly the neutron unit test suite takes along time to run!12:19
rbasakOr if there's a separate group who can help you with Ubuntu Server and webmin, then that works, too. I'm not just sure that group exists; they're certainly not here.12:19
cfhowlettwebmin is no longer recommended.  consider you options.12:22
zuljamespage:  more tests more awesomeness12:29
jamespagezul, I'm trying to get the test suite to a point where we can gate on it again12:30
zuljamespage:  ack12:31
jamespagezul, almost have the ml2 stuff working - that's my pre-christmas objective12:31
zetheroo rbasak: I do use it .. but I am using it very carefully because I am wary of what Ubuntu is talking about when it says the above ..12:34
rbasakzetheroo: you can use it, but just be aware that there are not many people who can help you if you turn out to need help, and nobody knows how well it works. Also, if you do ask for help, please be sure to let people know that you're using webmin, so you don't waste their time, since they're just going to get confused about the state of your system and misadvise you on that basis anyway.12:36
jamespagezul, why would the waitress unit tests not run in a package build?12:37
zuljamespage:  i dont remember right now still waking up :)12:38
zetheroorbasak: sure, of course. Just to be clear though, I am not asking for help so much as I am asking if anyone knows the details behind the message above ...12:38
zuljamespage:  i think it tries to access a webpage to scrape it12:38
yolandajamespage, at the moment, send the MP for charmhelpers: https://code.launchpad.net/~yolanda.robla/charm-helpers/rabbitmq_ha/+merge/19945312:40

bgardnerzetheroo: The last time I investigated this, the major difference was where webmin expects to find config files & what the correct methods to read or update them are vs where Ubuntu places them.13:32
bgardnerzetheroo: My conclusion was to listen to ubottu and walk away from webmin.  :P  I liked webmin, but the risk is not worth the reward.13:33
