[01:06] heh [01:06] rick_h__: Sorry to hear that. We're missing you already! [01:07] but not doing wife's holiday party = A+ [01:07] well I'm on bath duty wheeee [01:08] And there wasn't a dry eye in the house [01:08] or tile, or ceiling or wall or ... [01:26] ummm, you guys drinking the good stuff? [01:41] I meant since it was bath time there might be splashing [01:42] also widox is throwing coffee at everyone. [01:42] WATCH OUT [01:42] lol [01:42] ow my eye [02:48] waf: https://www.dashlane.com/ [11:26] morning [12:48] morning [12:59] almost feeling human again yay [14:16] rick_h__: Woo woo! [16:00] greg-g: You monster! https://twitter.com/KarlTheFog/status/413545177957941249 [16:10] brousch: heh [16:10] lol, love the headline "Mac Pro: So, how many thousands of dollars do you want to spend?" [16:14] at almost $1000 per display, and I'd like 6 displays... oh crap. [16:23] yeah, the 4K monitors aren't cheap. [16:28] Anyone using owncloud? [16:31] no, becuase, why? [16:32] "universal access to your files via the web," I have that, its called secure shell :p [16:41] I haven't looked at it either for mostly the same reasons [16:41] that and todotxt's Android app requires Dropbox. [16:45] mathomastech: yes. we set it up at work [17:01] brousch: I guess so :) [18:19] Hows the afternoon so far? [18:20] is it friday yet? [18:20] I don't think so [18:20] I have the productivity of a dead horse at this point [18:20] boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo [18:20] small little bacterial machinations but no horsepower. [18:21] Apparently we're not getting that nasty weather they were promising. [18:21] so that's good. :) [18:21] well double boo [18:22] yay, only freezing rain [18:22] I think you and JoDee are the only people that get excited over bad weather. [18:22] Though she's not a fan of the snow like you are. :) [18:22] hehe, I got to play in the now [18:22] it was fun [18:22] http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:48067.1.99999 [18:22] darn snow tires and heavy car aren't as much fun as the subaru was though :/ [18:23] *rolls eyes* [18:24] This holiday break needs to hit badly. I've lost motivation and as of last night the woodshop is cleaned up and ready for serious work [18:25] bah, this rainy stuff is going to make things sucky [18:25] I think rick_h__ and I are the chairmen of the "Snow Nerd Obeisance Workshop" [18:25] seriously, I'd rather have a foot of snow than an inch of "rain" that's just pre-ice [18:25] (it took me a while to find a reasonable o-word there) [18:26] word [18:26] ice is fun [18:26] no, ice is dangerous [18:26] Ice kills [18:26] snow is fun [18:26] exactly [18:26] my wife and the subaru and go out in snow [18:26] in ice...nfw [18:27] I like snow. I hate ice. [18:27] cmaloney: wtf this link. Saturday "Ice Pellets" [18:27] yea, yay us for not getting snow...but "Ice Pellets" [18:27] That's when the freezing rain gets pissed off [18:28] Snow and ice accumulating 1 to 3 inches. [18:28] that's the sucky stuff. Going to be heavy, have to shovel it, salt will wash away. Ugh [18:28] * rick_h__ hides in heated workship all weekend [18:28] workshop [18:28] heh [18:29] kinda bummed there's no CHC for next week [18:29] yea, I missed two weeksn and then holidays for two more [18:29] I'm going stir crazy [18:29] You're going to lose your gold star attendance award. [18:29] I'm going to be "that one dude that was here before...you know...the bitchy one" [18:29] hah [19:07] damn dad. Get him a pebble for christmas and it goes in the mail today. [19:07] so of course I get an email today "Hey, I see Best Buy has the pebble on sale, how do you like yours. I think I'm going to go get one" [19:14] rick_h__: Hah [19:15] Ummm. I sold my pebble. To a monk. Who will in turn give it to me as it's not part of his vows to accept technology. [19:15] Because he's an Amish monk. [19:16] Damn Craigslist. [19:24] widox: waf trevlar cmaloney what's the interest in a post-christmas CHC on a thurs after the holiday? [19:24] would evening still work best or interest in a day-time event? [19:24] you and your vacation time [19:24] greg-g: woot! [19:24] we only get the 25th off [19:24] actually it's mandatory shut down [19:25] :( :( [19:25] we had to save vacation days to cover it or go unpaid [19:25] we also only get the 25th [19:25] as far as 'official' [19:25] I mean, yay for you, but I'm bummed about WMF's holiday stuff [19:25] ah [19:25] nevermind [19:25] I'd be interested but unfortunately couldn't commit yet [19:25] :) [19:26] yea, the whole 'mandatory shutdown' thing is annoying, especially when the holiday falls as it does [19:26] I had to save up 3 days all year to cover those [19:26] fortunately I've got 4 days left, so Tues - Tues ftw! [19:27] nice! [19:27] rick_h__: I might be interested, depending on what J has planned. [19:27] I'm going to lobby for unlimited vacation :) [19:27] cmaloney: coolio, keep it in mind [19:27] rick_h__: I like the idea, not sure that I'll be in town though [19:27] greg-g: heh, yea I could never work for a place like that. I think I'd have too many days of "Meh, I can't think today. I'll be in the woodshop" [19:28] widox: boooo :P but ok [19:28] Even if we just got together that would be awesome. [19:28] rick_h__: well, that's where good management (or whatever the right word is nowadays) comes in. [19:28] heh, after next Tues. I don't have to go back to work till Jan 6 :p [19:28] cmaloney: +1 [19:28] widox: pulls out the giant "you suck" card and drops it on the table [19:28] free week off FTW [19:28] I could get used to an unlimited vacation policy. :) [19:29] widox: where do you work? [19:29] At least I'd love the option to try. :) [19:29] I don't have metered time off, either [19:29] greg-g: http://www.sentryds.com/ [19:29] at least, the IT staff doesn't have set PTO [19:30] cmaloney: yeah, I think it makes sense. You have your goals and priorities as you normally do, and if you don't meet them, you better have a good reason why (like now), so what's the diff if I take 2 weeks off in Dec if I got all of my end of year stuff done? the idea that its all about "butt in the chair time" is soooo wrong [19:30] greg-g: Yeah, that was especially true when I was a contractor [19:30] That and no remote work possibilities are pretty lame IMHO [19:30] especially when the weather is shit-tacular. [19:31] it's just an extrapolation of work from home policies and flexible hours. So what if I go swimming from 8-9am and pick up my kid from somewhere at 3-4pm? if I get my work done, what's the problem? [19:31] * greg-g nods [19:31] I remember diane's great talk on that [19:31] greg-g: I'm kinda surprised WM isn't like that [19:31] widox: yeah :/ [19:32] we're a little old school in some ways. We have some of the non-profit staleness you would expect of any other nonprofit [19:32] but we have enough non-staleness that we might be able to push the stale ones forward :) [19:32] you gotta corner Jimmy and tell him what's up [19:33] luckily I don't have to talk to jimmy at all [19:33] something tells me it's not Jimmy who put that in place. [19:33] I'm sure he'd be down with it though [19:33] Sounds like one of those "get people who do fundraising for a living and have them work here" mentality. [19:33] yeah, but if hes' on board. it will happen [19:33] so, funny thing, the alexa page for wikimedia has "other sites you own" and nekkid.com (NSFW) is on there. from jimmy's past life :) [19:34] heh [19:35] (sorry jjesse ;) ) [19:35] I hope someone in this channel doesn't auto-open URLs. ;) [19:36] Had to disabuse someone of that notion in the linux journal channel [19:37] That's one of those "you haven't thought this through have you" moments. [19:53] or if your irc client auto-embeds images if somebody links directly to an image (default behavior in limechat) [19:53] I don't see what could possibly go wrong [20:02] rick_h__: i'll be out of town on the 26th :( [20:20] trevlar: I'm setting up a home server after the new year (either getting a raspberry pi for christmas, or buying it myself afterwards) and was thinking of setting it up. I use dropbox heavily for file syncing but not for any media. Was thinking about setting up owncloud to partially replace dropbox, and to store all my media for my home theatre setup. Would owncloud work well for something like that? [20:24] mathomastech: if it's just for you, I'd say don't bother. I think it's more for sharing files with others inside a home/organization [20:25] there's probably a better network/sharing setup option to use. but I don't know much about that side so I don't know :) [20:29] trevlar: Thanks. I'll look into it some more, and some other options. Regardless of how I end up doing it, I am just uber stoked to mess around with a raspberry pi! [21:40] rick_h__: i think you meant fiction. [21:40] rick_h__: what did you think of ringworld? [21:41] jrwren: doh, you're right [21:41] hah [21:42] jrwren: hmm, does this work for you? https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/794379864 [21:57] hahaha, yup. [21:58] for what it is worse, I heard the second one was crap, so I never bothered with it. [21:59] ugh [21:59] well, I've got 4 others backed up before I get to looking for something new so maybe I'll pass
