somsipSo if I build a test server based on the 14.04 alpha, I can update it as normal and after 4/14 it will be a full release version. Is that right?02:27
somsipLooks like it: http://askubuntu.com/questions/5675/i-installed-an-alpha-or-beta-am-i-up-to-date-with-the-final-release-if-i-keep-u02:35
LuckyWillyHowdy all, I am trying to find the alpha version of Ubuntu 14.04 by any chance can someone pass me a link?02:40
trismLuckyWilly: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ there aren't any alpha images for ubuntu02:43
LuckyWillyOnly daily builds? I mean I just heard it get released.02:44
trismLuckyWilly: although there are ones for other flavors: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/12/19/trusty-alpha-1-released/02:44
Beldarhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseSchedule02:44
trismLuckyWilly: yes it is opt-in for flavors but ubuntu doesn't do them anymore02:44
LuckyWillyUgh, only images for other flavors I gotcha.02:44
trismLuckyWilly: the dailys are generally pretty good these days02:44
Beldaralpha beta they are only words02:45
LuckyWillytrism, No problem I'll check that out nice to know that.02:45
LuckyWillyIndeed Beldar though at times they used to have an Alpha and the daily builds were separate.02:45
LuckyWillyOverall, I'm just happy to see it's out at this stage.02:46
LuckyWilly:)02:46
LuckyWillyDon't mean to be a burden. Though there are no torrent links for a few daily builds?02:46
LuckyWillyHave a good one guys. :)02:48
mamarleyHas anyone tried compiling a custom kernel in Trusty?   I just upgraded my chroot from Saucy to Trusty and now I am getting output like http://pastebin.com/2Fw78mgK when I try to compile the kernel.03:32
mamarleyI dug into the issue and it looks like the comments in the arch/x86/syscalls/syscall_64.tbl file are being processed as data, causing several invalid lines to appear in arch/x86/include/generated/asm/syscalls_64.sh.03:33
mamarleyIt worked fine in Saucy.03:33
mamarleyAnd nothing changed about the kernel source tree.  All I did was upgrade to Trusty.03:34
mamarleyI couldn't figure out what was actually causing the problem, so I figured I would check if anyone was having the same issue.03:37
trismmamarley: might be related to bug 1261872 based on a quick glance03:37
ubottubug 1261872 in linux (Ubuntu) "P_ALL behavior inconsistent in eglibc vs. kernel headers (enum vs. #define)" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/126187203:37
mamarleyThanks, I will check that out.03:37
trismmamarley: since it is a eglibc bug about rearranging headers03:38
trismmamarley: but perhaps not03:38
mamarleyIt doesn't really look like it.03:38
mamarleyMy problem is that the #-prefixed comments in syscall_64.tbl are processed as data instead of being ignored.03:39
mamarleyI am spinning up another saucy chroot right now so I can do more targeted testing (run the syscalltbl.sh script manually and check that the comments are ignored)03:41
mamarleyMy gut feeling would be that it is a bash bug, but the version of bash did not change from Saucy to Trusty.03:42
trismmamarley: /bin/sh would be dash but that appears unchanged as well03:56
trismmamarley: nm I'm an idiot it runs with CONFIG_SHELL which seems to want to be bash04:18
trismmamarley: though if anything it would seem like a grep bug, since grep does all the work filtering the comments, and grep is changed in trusty04:24
trismmamarley: but the script by itself seems to work fine on both trusty and saucy here, so that's kind of weird04:30
trismmamarley: I'm only in an lxc container though so I wouldn't see any weird kernel bugs, have you tested without -j?04:59
* elfy wonders when firefox 26 will turn up properly07:35
mamarleyStrangely enough, it does indeed work perfectly if run it on my laptop (which is also running Trusty).11:16
mamarleyLet me check out that grep angle...11:16
om26erthe latest ISO is broken, does not boot. HELP ?11:29
Wubixom26er: whats the error message?11:45
Wubixand how did you get a project cloak?11:46
Wubixmaybe not related but i had this problem on 12.04 yesterday. and i could not find a single hint in the logs12:10
BluesKajhiyas all13:02
zack_does anyone try xubuntu 14.04?13:08
elfyseems to me not very many - which is not much help when we're trying to get it tested13:09
elfyI - for one - do ;)13:09
zack_i have installed xubuntu 14.04 a1, but after installation, i found that the appearance is not what i saw in live cd13:10
elfyyou probably have xfce session13:11
zack_i just installed and logged on13:11
zack_so should i change to xubuntu before log on?13:11
elfyyea - but ...13:11
elfyyou might need to remove .config and .cache from your home13:12
zack_i found some software has been removed13:12
zack_with new replacement13:12
elfyremove .cache and .config from your home folder - logout, choose xubuntu session - login13:13
elfythere are user session bugs with the image13:13
zack_ok..i will have a try later13:13
elfyI'll be off again in 20 minutes, but will be about in a few hours again13:14

lotuspsychjegenii: nice fix mate18:26
geniilotuspsychje: I used to work on the factoids much more, just it's very time consuming when you start going through them all, etc18:27
mamarleytrism: Thanks for the help!  I ended up figuring out that the problem was that grep was failing to load the PCRE library, and instead of displaying an error message, it was just silently failing and ignoring the regex.  That caused the commented lines to slip through and break the kernel build.18:27
lotuspsychjegenii: i understand, its a time robbing job but alot of factoids, still contain very usefull info18:27
lotuspsychjeits hard to keep it up to date 24/718:28
trismmamarley: wow that is really strange, I had a thought that grep might just be ignoring the regex but I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it, glad you got it working18:30
SorenHolmHi18:51
SorenHolmHow do I report errors against the current 14.04 version. The current livcd can not login.18:52
brainwashyou can manually create a bug report on launchpad and provide all needed information19:02
BluesKajSorenHolm, suggest you use acpi=off and nomodeset as boot options on the live cd , I believe it's F6 that gives those options on the try ubuntu page19:10
SorenHolmBluesKaj: The case is that I get a kde-password promtp when pressing "Try Kubuntu".19:11
BluesKajthen a kubuntu version must already be installed , SorenHolm19:13
SorenHolmBluesKaj: yes - but does the livecd ask for a password just because I have kubuntu installed on the hdd?19:14
BluesKajSorenHolm, dunno why , but I've heard of this happening before , and sorrt to say I've forgotten what the workaround is. Unless your pw is accepted and lets the system boot the cd/dvd19:16
SorenHolmBluesKaj: I'll try some other stuff..19:18
BluesKajSorenHolm, do you have separate  / and /home partitions, suggest you format / , then try the live media19:19
BluesKajwith gparted live cd/usb19:20
BluesKajerr format with that is ^19:21
BluesKajSorenHolm, do you have separate  / and /home partitions, suggest you format / with a utility like gpat, then try the live media19:28
BluesKajgparted19:28
elfySorenHolm: if the kubuntu live session is asking for a password - it 'could' be a similar issue to the one xubuntu and lubuntu have or had19:30
SorenHolmBluesKaj: hmmm - I don't want to wipe my current system just yet.19:30
elfySorenHolm: have you tried using kubuntu without a password19:31
elfythough I am guessing as I'm not sure how kubuntu sets user sessions19:31
SorenHolmelfy: well i just displays a password field - nu username or anything.19:32
elfyok - not the same them19:32
elfys/then19:32
BluesKajSorenHolm, assume you plan to install kubuntu , installing to / wheile leaving the /home dir alone is great method for clean installs of new vwrsions19:33
BluesKajversions19:33
BluesKajanyway, stuff to do, BBL19:37
