ubottunetsplit is when two IRC servers of the same network (like freenode) disconnect from each other, so users on one server stop seeing users on the other. If this is happening now, just relax and enjoy the show. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netsplit07:42

jonahHi is anyone any good with xorg.conf? I have two identical screens for dual screen but one runs off a dvi to vga adapter so Kubuntu gets the resolution wrong. I just need them both to be 2048x1152 if anyone can please help?18:14
jonahhere is my xorg.conf file - but as I say only one screen is working on 2048x1152, while the other just displays in a lower resolution...18:17
jonahhttp://pastebin.ca/251851118:17
TJ-jonah: You need to add manual HorizSync and VertRefresh lines for the DVI-VGA18:18
TJ-jonah: what's the make/model of the VGA monitor, which you'll need to look those up if EDID info isn't being presented by that interface18:18
jonahTJ-: Hi the make is Samsung and model is SyncMaster 2343nw if you can help at all?18:19
TJ-jonah: We can do a quick search to find those details18:19
jonahTJ-: both monitors are same make and model if that makes it easier. Thanks very much indeed!18:20
TJ-jonah: That's really useful! Can you pastebin the result of "xrandr -q"18:21
jonahTJ-: hi thanks, here is the output http://pastebin.ca/index.php18:24

amundsenhi23:13
uBUXUBugood evening amundsen23:13
uBUXUBudo u know who the manager is here?23:14
valorieuBUXUBu: this is a community run channel23:18
valoriethe Ubuntu IRC Council is ultimately in charge23:18
valorieif you want to speak with them on irc, use #ubuntu-admins, I think23:18
valorie!admin23:18
valoriehmmm23:18
Unit193uBUXUBu: Why?23:19
TheLordOfTimeuBUXUBu, "manager"?23:19
valorielots of us are ops, if that's what you want23:19
TheLordOfTimeuBUXUBu, the "manager" is the ops on chanserv, above that the IRC council has governance, IIRC.23:19
TheLordOfTimetheir home for community discussion is in #ubuntu-irc, if you at least want to ping them, but note -irc is also a public channel23:19
Unit193(-irc is community channels, not core channels.)23:20
TheLordOfTimeUnit193, you sure bout that?23:20
TheLordOfTimeUnit193, regardless, the IRC Council has a presence there and responds :p23:20
TheLordOfTimethat's ultimately irrelevant until uBUXUBu explains what they need and why, no?23:20
TheLordOfTime... oopsies, FTBFS issues again >.> *disappears*23:21
uBUXUBuhi valorie23:21
uBUXUBui have a proposal that id like to present to the kubuntu team23:22
uBUXUButhat is why i asked for the manager23:22
TheLordOfTimedefine "Kubuntu" team23:22
TheLordOfTimebecause if you mean the people who decide what Kubuntu includes and such, that may differ from the channel ops23:23
TheLordOfTimeuBUXUBu, ^23:23
uBUXUButhe people or person who can grant affiliation based on the applicants idea or contribution23:23
valorieooops, had the wrong chan name23:23
valoriethanks, TheLordOfTime23:23
* TheLordOfTime thinks uBUXUBu is being vague23:23
valoriehi uBUXUBu23:23
TheLordOfTimeanyone else getting that impression?23:23
valorieuBUXUBu: if you have a development proposal, you can come into #kubuntu-devel although no one seems around today23:24
valorieor better, write to the kubuntu-devel list23:24
valorieif it's about IRC, then the info is above23:25
uBUXUBumy idea would not better develop the kernal but would benefit people who need computers loaded with kubuntu or some other OS23:25
TheLordOfTimevalorie, correct me if i'm wrong, but Kubuntu uses the kernel made by the Ubuntu team, right?23:29
TheLordOfTime(i.e. the same core component)23:30
TheLordOfTimecomponents*23:30
TheLordOfTimes/made/developed/23:30
TheLordOfTimeuBUXUBu, is your idea, basically, finding some company who would offer Kubuntu preinstalled on their systems, while making sure everything's compatible?23:31
uBUXUBuno23:31
TheLordOfTimeyour idea is kinda vague to me then... (note i have no say in it, but if one person finds your suggestion or idea vague, then many probably do)23:32
uBUXUButhats a really bad idea and would prolly nor benefit poor people much23:32
valoriecertainly23:32
valoriekubuntu is ubuntu with the KDE desktop23:32
valorierather than unity or gnome or xfce, etc.23:32
TheLordOfTimevalorie, that's what I suspected, and was kinda certain of :P23:32
TheLordOfTimevalorie, indeed.23:32
* TheLordOfTime runs the KDE environment on his Ubuntu setup, on occasion, when he wants eyecandy :p23:33
TheLordOfTime(99% of my use case is plain packaging, or CLI stuff, so the GUI is ultimately irrelevant then :P)23:33
valorieyes, it's always possible to run more than one desktop, mix and match applications, etc.23:33
TheLordOfTimemhm23:33
valoriethat's the beauty of the Ubuntu family23:34
TheLordOfTimebut as i said, for what I do, I could get by with just ubuntu-server (i.e. noGUI)23:34
TJ-I've had to switch to KDE because Unity cannot handle my multi-GPU configuration23:35
TJ-And I prefer it :)23:35
valorie\o/23:35
TheLordOfTimeTJ-, heh.23:35
TheLordOfTimespeaking of multi-GPU, does Kubuntu have the same flaw with hybrid graphics that Ubuntu does?23:36
TheLordOfTimei.e. not always handling hybrid-graphics flawlessly?23:36
valorienot sure what that even is23:36
valorieso no idea, TheLordOfTime23:37
TheLordOfTimemeh23:37
TheLordOfTimeehh, ultimately, my contributions are to Ubuntu and the Ubuntu family overall, most recently it's all bug triage I'm doing, and that benefits everyone :P23:37
valorieindeed!23:38
valoriethank you for that23:38
