cauthonHey, is it true the live dvd includes a text install option? If so, how do I access it? The desktop is glitching out because of a driver issue00:25
valoriecauthon: you can text-install the server00:29
cauthonvalorie: Can I get a GUI on the server by installing gnome or something from the command line?00:29
valoriebut the option was so little used, it was removed from the liveCD/DVD/USB00:30
valoriecertainly00:30
cauthonOkay. Thanks, I'll try that.00:30
Unit193!mini00:30
ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want.  The installer is text based (rather than graphical as used on the Desktop DVD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD00:30
valorieany desktop or none can be installed00:30
cauthonjust sudo apt-get install gnome should do it?00:30
cauthonor kde, as appropriate00:30
valorieUnit193: isn't the mini the same as server?00:30
valoriewhatever-desktop is usually the name00:31
Unit193valorie: They both use the Debian installer, but doesn't the server come with "server" applications?  The mini will dump you onto tasksel.00:31
valorieok00:32
valorieright, server has the lamp stack00:32
valoriesorry, Unit193 has the correct info00:32

jonahBluesKaj: sorry is that ok?15:15
BluesKajjonah, dvi to dvi on the 2nd monitor?15:16
jonahBluesKaj: the second monitor has a DVI to VGA adaptor as my graphics card only has one DVI, one HDMI and one VGA15:17
jonahBluesKaj: my main monitor is using the DVI and works well. but the second one has a lower resolution15:17
jonahBluesKaj: I've tried adding resolutions in xrandr but keep getting errors15:17
BluesKajyes , jonah , dunno if vga output is capable of that high resolution15:18
jonahBluesKaj: ah I see, oh no that is a shame...15:19
jonahBluesKaj: anything I can do to get it working or is it impossible?15:21
jonahBluesKaj: it seems possible on a Mac via VGA port http://vapaus.org/syncmaster/15:25
BluesKajjonah, i'm no expert , it may be possible, it depends on your monitor and nvidia card , best to research it on the linux forums, google or other search engines15:25

ScorchGDI see there is no scanner support in system settings. Have two MFP installed. A Cannon and an Epson. Have not been able to get the scanner, on either device, to actually show up in the system. What is it going to take to get at least one scanner, on at least MFP, to work with this OS? Please respond.22:43
