hyper_chhi there, testing alpha 1 and I notcied I can't boot into kde... I get to lightdm that asks for my password and then it just freezes.... using kernel 3.11 from saucy is no problem21:17
hyper_chis there a way to troubleshoot that?21:18
penguin42hyper_ch: 1st question is how frozen is it; does capslock work? Does the mouse still move?21:18
hyper_chpenguin42: nothing works... not even fall back to a terminal with alt-f221:18
penguin42that's ctrl-alt-f221:19
penguin42hyper_ch: Have you got another machine you can ssh into it when it's in that state?21:19
penguin42hyper_ch: The other place I'd look is /var/log/lightdm21:19
hyper_chsorry, I meant ctrl-alf + f221:20
hyper_chwell, having an Optimus platform and I was eager to test out since that should now be supported in the kernel instead of bumblebee21:20
hyper_chupon next reboot I'll try 3.12 and check then lightdm log21:21
penguin42hyper_ch: Yeh so there are a bunch of separate logs in there; for X when lightdm runs it, for lightdm itself and for the greeter that actually takes your password21:21
hyper_chjust found that out :)21:21
penguin42hyper_ch: If you have something else on the network it's worth seeing if you can ssh in to see what state it's in21:21
hyper_chpenguin42: I figured I won't try to ssh in since fallback to teminal didn't work but I might do so :)21:22
penguin42hyper_ch: Yeh I mean it's worth a go - it all depends what broke21:23
hyper_chthx21:23
hyper_chtrying tomorrow21:23
penguin42If just the display stuff that's screwed then ssh in and you might be able to see a bit more21:23
penguin42Being optimus, I'd also try dissabling that and see if it survives21:24
hyper_chnot even sure if I can disable optimus21:24
hyper_chbeen a long time since I checked the bios21:24
penguin42the ones I've used have a 3 way choice between intel only, nvidia only, optimus mode21:25
hyper_chnot sure if mine offers that21:25
hyper_chas said, been a while21:25
hyper_chbtw, there's still problem with manual encryption selection upon installaion21:26
hyper_chchose manual partitioning, make 1st partition for boot, make 2nd partition and select for encryption --> then you're screwed because installer doesn't continue21:26
hyper_chso I still use the 12.04.3 alternate installed and do a release-upgrade21:27
