Unit193!uefi00:34
ubottuUEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware, it is meant as a replacement for the BIOS. For information on how to set up and install Ubuntu and its derivatives on UEFI machines please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI00:34

Unit193Other than thunar?  I like pcmanfm. :P02:59
Cajunfiendwow i tried to uninstall thunar and it wanted me to uninstall xubuntu-desktop too :o02:59
Unit193Of course, xubuntu-desktop is the meta that pulls it in.03:00
SonikkuAmericaCajunfiend: Not that you had to worry too much; xubuntu-desktop, like Unit193 said, is just a meta; you can un- and install it at whim without any huge system corruption or anything03:21

Wayward_VagabondPanel's mixer only shows dummy outputs.05:36

Wayward_Vagabondamixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory05:37
Wayward_Vagabondcannot open mixer: No such file or directory05:37
uBUXUBuno idea if this works for u but just saw someone recommend this to a guy who has sound issues:PulseAudio is a sound server intended as a drop-in replacement for !ESD - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio for information and installation instructions  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture for alsa info.05:39
Wayward_Vagabondaplay -l returns this:05:39
Wayward_Vagabondaplay: device_list:252: no soundcards found...05:39

ZatsuneNoMokouHi16:57
ObrienDavegreetings16:57
ZatsuneNoMokouI have just one question, will Xubuntu support Wayland or Mir? because other distros like gnome said they will only support mir, if I'm right16:58
ObrienDavei've heard Mir. don't quote me.16:59
ZatsuneNoMokouyou're not sure? I see17:00
ObrienDavenope. not sure17:00
ZatsuneNoMokouThat mess that Canonical made by deciding to make their own. I understand the independance problem, but still... a mess17:01
Sysiafter porting xfce to gtk3, there should be wayland support17:02
ZatsuneNoMokoubut noone here knows?17:03
Sysigimme couple more minutes to look into mir..17:03
ZatsuneNoMokouthey didn't post a decision or what?17:03
Sysias long as xfce supports xorg it's possible to use xmir17:04
ObrienDavemost of us here are not official Xubuntu staff. knome, elfy, and Unit193 would know more. afaik17:04
Sysiso basically both should work in future17:04
elfyonly decision we have made this cycle is that we'll not be looking at either for the upcoming LTS release17:07
Sysielfy: btw. is there even a possibility for gtk3 panel for 14.04?17:08
elfySysi: yep - getting closer - and it's on the roadmap17:08
ZatsuneNoMokouso, no decision yet about what will be supported?17:09
elfySysi: you can look at that with a ppa of you want - in fact you can do so for both 13.10 and 14.0417:09
elfyZatsuneNoMokou: supported for which release?17:09
Sysielfy: not that I'd really need it for anything, but nice17:09
ZatsuneNoMokouNo release in particular, just to know if Xubuntu will support Mir or Wayland, in the future17:09
elfyZatsuneNoMokou: no decision's have been made17:10
ZatsuneNoMokouOkay17:11
elfythe best place to see if that turns up will be when we start talking about the 14.10 cycle after LTS releases17:11
elfyit'll be in a community meeting - as always17:11
ZatsuneNoMokouokay17:11
benediktafter upgrading to 13.10, lightdm won't log in any more. The login prompt vanishes but the desktop and xfce4 are never loaded17:55
benedikti've tried apt-get install --reinstall xubuntu-desktop and apt-get install xfce417:55
benediktand creating a new xorg file17:55
benediktxmonad works fine however17:55
jBarthello18:06
jBartdoes anyone know how buggy xubuntu 14.04 still is?18:07
bekksjBart: It is still not released.18:07
jBartyea18:07
jBartbut there are nightlis18:08
jBart13.10 has broken a lot for me, and i thought 14.04 maybe is less broken...18:09
Sysisomething missing from 12.04?18:10
bekksYeah, then wait until April and/or stick 12.04 until then.18:10
jBarti cant stick with 12.0418:10
jBarti need clang 3.218:10
elfywhat's broken a lot in 13.10 for you then?18:11
jBartsound indicator, wireless18:11
Sysihttp://askubuntu.com/questions/261636/how-do-i-backport-install-a-newer-version-of-clang18:12
bekksAccording to the LLVM homepage, there are 12.04 binaries of latest clang.18:12
jBarthmm18:14
Sysithe sound indicator is quite easy to fix, can't say about the wireless without more information18:17
jBartthe soundindicator would be easy, but it upsets me that it got into the release...18:19
elfymaybe we should have not released 13.10 then - unfortunately given the amount of people we have available to do things - it's easy for  people to complain18:22
elfymaybe you could volunteer time to help with the coding18:22
jBarti think i will try 14.04. i have to reinstall my system anyways since there is also surely some upgrade fuckup going on18:22
jBartmaybe if i have to procrastinate18:23

Nick7887hello! anyone knows if xfce comes with a service manager?! i dont mean startup applications manager! i mean a service manager so i can control if apache2 and mysqlserver services will running by default or not at the boot time!20:27
TheSheep!bum20:36
ubottuBoot options: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions - To add/remove startup services, you can use the package 'bum', or update-rc.d - To add your own startup scripts, use /etc/rc.local - See also !grub and !dualboot - Making a boot floppy: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto/BootFloppy - Also see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SmartBootManagerHowto20:36
TheSheepNick7887: see that last link20:36
Nick7887thank you so much! i would prefer bum as i am newbiew but since its written at GTK +2 it wont give more "unessesary" packages to a gnome 3 installation?20:38
TheSheepno20:38
TheSheeplots of xubuntu default apps are already gtk220:38
TheSheepalso, those packages are not "unnecessary" if you need them for bum to work :)20:39
Nick7887aha ! ok thank you so much :)20:39

xubuntu430hello I cannot open the xubuntu i386 desktop torrent file in uTorrent (the program freezes and hangs on while trying to start the torrent) and the http download from the Portugal mirror was corrupted MD5 doesn't match tjhis happens for more than a week now22:00
xubuntu430so seems impossible for me to get a clean copy of Xubuntu... what's happening?22:01
xubuntu430anybody? well i hope that someone sees the log of this message since it's weird uTorrent not being able to open the torrent and all HTTP downloads come out corrupted thanks anyway thought you would like to know about this22:04
xubuntu430i'll try another http mirror for one last time after that i'll just install Voyager 13.10 since the hash checks out fine...22:05
xubuntu325Hello good sirs. Can anyone recommend a good, free antivirus for Xubuntu so that I can scan downloads and drives to use on my Windows machine?22:56
ObrienDavethat does not exist afaik22:56
bekksxubuntu325: clamav22:56
bazhangclamav22:56
ObrienDavefor scanning windows files and drives?22:57
xubuntu325Is it viable to torrent download things to my Xubuntu comp that with clamav make sure they're clean, then?22:57
ObrienDavemy apologies. Immunet 3.0, powered by ClamAV is a fast, fully featured Windows desktop Anti-Virus (AV) solution that utilizes the power of advanced cloud based detection techniques and the strength of the time tested ClamAV engine. This unique combination of technologies allows for a highly effective approach to today’s fast moving malware threats.23:00
ObrienDavehttp://www.clamav.net/lang/en/about/win32/23:01
David-Axubuntu325: in some torrent clients you can specify a command to be run when a download is complete. that way you can run clamav on them automagically. but remember you cannot be 100% sure that any antivirus program will detect every virus.23:05
