James0ranyone use WinFF? Having some issues with it acting as inactive when it is the active window. Also, it fails to convert when you're finally ready. Seeing that it has some issues with qt-curve reported but i'm using oxygen-gtk09:24

nowhereusahello. I'm super newb just getting into anything linux based for the first time. I installed Kubuntu 13.01 two days ago, haven't connected to the internet yet. Plz help14:47
=== kubuntu is now known as Guest80112
nowhereusaNM is on, says no connections. Not cord, not router,14:47
=== Guest15454 is now known as chaudhary
dheerajnowhereusa: are you connected to internet..??14:58
nowhereusayes. i am currently working on a windows machine on the same router14:58
nowhereusai'm not that newb14:58
nowhereusaNM says no connections, no devices14:58
dheeraj[20:28] <nowhereusa> i'm not that newb  what does it mean??14:59
nowhereusai'm not that new14:59
nowhereusanew to linux, not a machine in general14:59
dheerajOkk :)14:59
TJ-nowhereusa: First, we need to confirm that NetworkManager is showing a wired connection15:00
dheerajhmm, Thats true..15:00
dheerajOpen terminal and try ifconfig15:00
nowhereusaas i cannot cut and paste i'm going to keep it short. let me know if you want expanded info15:01
dheerajAre you using Windows over any hypervisor?15:01
nowhereusathey are different machines15:01
TJ-nowhereusa: Does Network Managers applet in the task-bar show a Wired Connection?15:02
nowhereusaloca; loopback15:02
nowhereusainet 127.0.0.01 mask 255.0.0.015:02
dheerajnowhereusa: is it your terminal outputs15:02
dheeraj?15:02
nowhereusacorrect, to ifconfig15:03
dheerajtrry ifconfig eth015:03
nowhereusadevice not found15:03
dheerajit means your ethernet port do have some problem in that machine..15:04
nowhereusatj: i don't have said said applet in task-bar, which I found odd given everything i've read15:04
TJ-nowhereusa: OK, run this command and then show me, for each line returned, just the last part of the lines where it looks like [1234:abcd]  "lspci -nn | egrep -i 'net|wire' "15:05
nowhereusathat's not the case. I have a separate windows harddrive, connection works fine15:05
TJ-nowhereusa: e.g. if you see "Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection [8086:4229] (rev 61)" I only need the "[8086:4229]"15:05
nowhereusaTJ: Got a list of commands15:07
nowhereusausage: lspci15:07
TJ-nowhereusa: You must have mis-typed15:07
nowhereusasorry 1 sec15:07
TJ-nowhereusa: "    lspci -nn | egrep -i 'net|wire'    "15:08
TJ-nowhereusa:  the "|" is the vertical bar symbol15:08
nowhereusaok i'm no this stupid15:11

JaZZyCooLhey guys I am having resolution problem with my Live kubuntu or netrunner. First of all when I booted it gave me options which were so scratched that I could only see a broken white line that's all after that it booted me to the main screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 on a screen with 1366 x 768 this only happened to this two OS15:15
JaZZyCooLI tried changing but no luck15:16
JaZZyCooLit worked fine and perfect with Linux mint just kubuntu15:16
JaZZyCooLnetrunner15:16
nowhereusatj:command list says use soecufued ud database instead of net|wire15:17
nowhereusa*specified15:17
nowhereusaspecified ID database15:18
BluesKajnowhereusa, copy and paste is your friend15:18
nowhereusaBluesKaj: different machines, connection problem15:18
BluesKajok , nowhereusa , sorry to hear that15:19
JaZZyCooLhey guys anyone15:20
nowhereusaTJ: I saw you dropped and came back. Not sure if you saw: keep getting usage list, -i command says "use specified ID database instead of net|wire"15:21
TJ-nowhereusa: If you're seeing that error then the "|" symbol isn't being typed or accepted correctly, since it joins two separate commands, but that error shows that 'net|wire' are being passed to the first command "lspci"15:22
nowhereusashift \15:23
nowhereusa|15:23
nowhereusaTJ: there are two | correct? -nn| and .. 'net|wire'15:29
nowhereusaTJ: lspci -nn | egrep -i 'net|wire'15:32
nowhereusaI typed it. I'm sure I got it right15:33

MoholmarnAnyone able to help me with the god-dang bootloader? I've tried 4 different and two work but only to boot windows. Grub2 no such partition/unkown filesystem | grub error 18 | lilo Fatal: cannot open: /etc/lilo.conf | NTLDR boots only windows16:35
MoholmarnLilo nad NTLDR is the ones actually booting anything16:35
Moholmarnbut lilo won't let me generate a conf16:36
ikoniakubuntu doesn't install lilo by default16:36
Moholmarni know16:36
ikoniawhy are you not using the standard install16:36
Moholmarnbecause the standard throws me a no such partition16:36
ikoniasorry thats just not real16:37
ikoniagrub gives an error - so you swap to lilo outside of the installer16:37
ikoniathat makes no sense16:37
Moholmarngrub refuses to find my linux partition so i switched to lilo because at least it's booting something16:37
ikoniaI'd suggest fixing the grub issue as that is the standard bootloader going forward.16:38
Moholmarnbut nothing works16:38
Moholmarni've tried reinstalling, boot-repair16:38
ikoniaMoholmarn: well, we can look at that, as you appear to not really understand how to use lilo16:38
Moholmarni can't even config it16:38
ikoniaso you should concentrate on fixing the problem with the standard boot loader, which for kubuntu is grub16:38
Moholmarni've used lilo before, but that time nothing borked16:38
ikoniaMoholmarn: using it, does not mean you have an idea how to use it, which looking at your comments you don't16:39
ikoniaso I'd suggest progressing the grub problem16:39
Moholmarnthen progesss ahead because i'm stuck16:39
Moholmarnthat's why i switched16:40
ikoniafirstly - do a clean kubuntu install from a CD (I'm guessing as you can't boot it - you've not done anything with it, so it's a new install anyway)16:40
ikoniathat way we can get to a known good "broken" state with grub16:40
Moholmarnmy USB stick is slow as hell just so you know, so it might take a while16:41
ikoniaso you're installing from usb16:41
Moholmarnyes16:41
ikoniaor installing to a usb16:41
Moholmarnfrom16:41
ikoniaok - so that's probably the reason16:41
Moholmarnonto laptop with single HDD16:41
ikoniaon some PC's the usb device becomes the primary disk (sda) and grub till try to be installed onto that16:42
Moholmarnwith WINXP16:42
Moholmarni've checked it already, it registeres as SDB116:42
Moholmarni can give you a paste from the boot repair if that helps16:43
ikoniaMoholmarn: ok, so sda in that case should be your internal disk, and grub should be installed to "sda"16:43
ikoniaboot repair - is NOT the installer16:43
ikoniaso that does not mean it's how the installer see's oit16:43
ikoniait16:43
Moholmarni know, but the boot repair let's me check the conf for grub (which is pointing to the right places but refuses to boot anyway)16:44
ikoniaMoholmarn: please re-read what I said16:44
ikoniaMoholmarn: bootrepair does not represent what the installer sees/does16:44
Moholmarni know16:44
ikoniaright - so please don't quote boot repair as a good source of info16:45
MoholmarnCan you be a little bit more condescending? i'm not a retard16:45
ikoniaI'll leave you to it - bye16:45
BluesKaj_boot repair does work fixing grub  ...with lilo , not sure16:45
Moholmarnit doesn't fix grub16:46
MoholmarnIf it did i wouldn't be here16:46
BluesKaj_Moholmarn, well, it has for me , several times ...what's your partition table , grub should install to the mbr and include windows , unless you installed windows after installing linux16:49

MoholmarnKICK ME THEN YOU PIECE OF SHIT!16:51
BluesKaj_too bad , his problem could have been solved , I think ...frustration gets the best of some ppl16:55
ikoniaBluesKaj_: could have been solved easy16:56
ikoniahowever he didn't want to admit he didn't know what he was doing and thus had a bad attitude16:56
BluesKaj_well, being wrong and asking for help sort go hand in hand , but pointing it out probly put him over the edge16:59
qdatawhen the source of the problem is pebkac not a whole lot you can do to fix it17:00
ikoniano-one actually pointed it out to him, he just kept giving useless information, and then saying "I know" when you pointed out it was useless and not what was asked for17:00
ikoniaseems odd to know it's useless but keep giving it over and over anyway17:01
