nikogh | hello all, the current filezilla 5.3.5 in ubuntu 12.04 LTS precise has a bug with explicit FTP over TLS, limiting the maximum upload file size. The only workaround is to use unencrypted connections :(, but this is a security issue. The bug is already fixed in newer versions of filezilla since 3.6.0.2. The filezilla bug report ist here: http://trac.filezilla-project.org/ticket/7287. There are already some ppa's for newer versions (htt | 11:35 |

nikogh | via the official repositories of course ;) | 11:36 |
rbasak | nikogh: see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates. Short answer: a minimal patch that fixes the issue can go out in an update. For backports, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports. | 13:23 |
nikogh | I've already read Backports and STU webpages, but I was not sure, whats the right way. What is a small patch? I guess a new version jump from 3.5 to 3.6 or above is too much right? So, I'll try now to request a official backport of filezilla. Any concerns? | 15:26 |
cjwatson | small patches are ones that fix only the issue at hand, not a load of other extraneous stuff | 16:19 |
cjwatson | version numbering is not the determining factor, but normally a full new upstream version will change lots of other stuff as well as the critical problem that actually needs to be fixed | 16:19 |
