Hydr0p0nXi'd like to install the saucy (13.10) hwe on 12.04, I don't see the Xorg portion in the repositories though, just the kernel... Is there another repository I should be looking at ?00:09
BeldarHydr0p0nX, This is the 14.04 channel00:10
Hydr0p0nXis 12.04.4 not considered pre-release as well ?00:10
Beldaruse #ubuntu00:11
Beldarno00:11
Beldarmight be but this is not the correct channel is all00:11
Hydr0p0nXI asked in #ubuntu and it seemed like no one was aware of a 13.10 hwe for it, so thought i'd try here ...00:12
Hydr0p0nXsorry00:12
BeldarHydr0p0nX, What your wanting to do in a broad sense is outside of support as well.00:12
Beldarjust install 13.10, dual boot it if needed.00:13
Hydr0p0nX13.10 has problems with my usb devices00:13
Hydr0p0nXI have a workaround that works on 12.04, but i can't test on 13.10 since my mouse and keyboard are iffy at best00:13
BeldarHydr0p0nX, we can have this conversation on #ubuntu if needed.00:13

peroanyone have an idea why my laptop's fans run a lot lounder on xubuntu daily than debian xfce with just chromium open?08:06
roothorickI take it suspend/hibernate is very, um, broken, in 14.04 right now. Firstly pm-utils weren't installed at all by default, secondly the black screen of death is back, thirdly hibernate doesn't resume at all08:07
roothorickoh that's extra lovely, apt-get wants to blindly clobber my modified kernel :/08:10
roothorickI guess I was rather naive about the stability of A108:11

roothorickhuh, okay... pm-suspend produces a black screen on resume (but the system responds to Ctrl+Alt+F1 followed by Ctrl+Alt+Del), but resumes correctly if I just do echo mem > /sys/power/state17:13
roothorickI narrowed down the issue. /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/94cpufreq is the culprit.17:53
roothorickwhich is really, really bizarre because all it does is set the CPU governor17:55
roothoricknow that I think about it I suspect my custom kernel, let me pop a vanilla kernel back on17:56
roothorickwait, duh, I could unload phc-k8, load powernow-k8 and be back to vanilla18:02
acovrigany idea why mplayer and ffmpeg show a green video when capturing from a v4l USB device on my laptop, yet works just fine on my desktop (both running 14.04)?18:02
roothorickallright, guess I'll be sticking with 14.04 after all. Seem to have all the hardware quirks ironed out18:05
roothorickoh right, hibernate not working yet18:05

roothorickwelp I managed to render the machine unbootable even in recovery. Why the hell does recovery mode try to resume?18:26
roothorickawesome.18:38
roothorickinstalling uswsusp renders the system totally unbootable18:38

drsn0wanyone else getting initramfs booting 14.04 daily?20:21
Beldardrsn0w, Check the sum of the iso. What are you booting with?20:23
drsn0wUSB20:23
drsn0wand i did check the ISO, it's fine20:24
Beldardrsn0w, use nicks on the irc, how did you load the usb?20:24
drsn0w beldar: apologies(: I put it on the drive with Unetbootin on Mac OS X20:25
Beldardrsn0w, I have not booted the todays daily so not sure if there is an anomaly.20:25
drsn0wbeldar, sorry actually this is yesterday's20:25
Beldardrsn0w, Ah, and followed the steps for a apple load, it's a bit of a process?20:26
drsn0wBeldar, i'm not actually booting it on a Mac, this is a Hackintosh so it's an Acer laptop running Mac :P20:26
Beldardrsn0w, Sure but still the apple os, I have never had to mess with apple, but have glanced at the usb loading and just chuckled, it is different than finding the ISO you would normally do with unetbootin.20:28
penguin42drsn0w: You don't need unetbootin, just dd it to the raw disk device20:28
drsn0wBeldar, ohhhhh its different. damn it. penguin42, oh okay. thanks20:28
drsn0weven for 13.10?20:29
penguin42drsn0w: Note that's the raw device - I think that's /dev/rdsk/something in mac20:29
drsn0wyeah20:29
Beldardrsn0w, It may be a simple dd, but I have never seen that suggested in a apple os.20:29
drsn0wbeldar: where can i find the apple loading instructions then? i've never had issues with it20:29
Beldardrsn0w, I have just clicked on links when people come onto the channels with issues, never had to do it so, the web in general. penguin42 might hae the answers though.20:30
drsn0wbeldar, thanks!(:20:30
drsn0wbeldar, penguin42, oh jeez you have to convert the iso! wtf20:33
drsn0wbeldar, no the mac instructions apply only if you're booting on a Mac, which im not20:33
drsn0wbeldar, penguin42, "http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ can be used to automate the process of extracting the Ubuntu ISO file to USB, and making the USB drive bootable. The resulting USB drive, however, can be booted on PCs only. If attempting to make a USB drive that can be booted from a Mac, follow the instructions below."20:33
penguin42drsn0w: Yeh and if it's a hackintosh I'd say it's still a PC personally20:34
penguin42drsn0w: But as I say, dding it should work20:34
drsn0wpenguin42, yeah hardwarewise it is. Yeah. meh. i'm downloading 13.10 at this point :P20:34
Beldardd sounds good if that can just be done on the OS, it is still a pc20:35
drsn0wBeldar: yeah. last install i messed up encrypted LVM so hopefully i'll get it right this time20:37
penguin42Beldar: Don't tell anyone, but macs are just PCs in fancy cases20:38
drsn0wpenguin42: with restrictive EFI20:38
penguin42drsn0w: See the EFI on modern PCs - they're much more broken I think20:39
drsn0wpenguin42: yeah. i turned off UEFI on my laptop. really simplified hackintosh and ubuntu :P20:39
Beldarpenguin42, Heh, yeah, and a bit glorified to. ;)20:42
BeldarI do have a friend who got a free mac from a friend, he was always having malware and virus problems in windows, I never tried to fix any of this other than to tell him some safe use techniques, which were never really followed, the mac is great for them, no problems.20:45
drsn0wmacs are good for end users,20:46
