twblilstevie: hey, I'm finally losing patience with my TF101 -- got any recommendations for good netbooks (or tablets w/docks) to run Ubuntu/Debian on?00:29
lilstevietwb, at present? nope00:32
lilsteviemaybe an arm chromebook if you are still into arm00:32
twbI'm actually a bit sick of arm's wackiness.00:32
twbBut most of all I want a real SSD00:32
twbBut the 10" x86 netbooks are all pretty sucky for battery life, so I figured I'd at least ask what was around in the ARM space00:34

wookeywhat's the recommended way to install ubuntu remotely on a machine (using a custom kernel)?11:21
wookeyjust debootstrap onto the rootfs then stick the kernel and modules in place and re-run initramfs bits?11:22
wookey(the machine is already booted so I can run debootstrap on it, with the root-to-be mounted)11:23
rbasakwookey: I basically do that, but without an initramfs.11:32
wookeyisn;t killing the initramfs tricky with plymouth etc?11:52
rbasakIn my case I had a separate issue with plymouth so had to disable it anyway11:58
rbasakThe only issue I had with turning off plymouth was that lightdm didn't start, since it was waiting on plymouth-done or something. Apart from that disabling plymouth didn't cause any issues for me. But this was a while ago.11:59
rbasakBut since I had to disable plymouth anyway, I don't know if it would have caused issues.11:59
ogra_rbasak, until you have your first fsck errors :)12:01
ogra_it works fine without plymouth until mountall wants to talk to the user in any way ... then it breaks badly12:01

ogra_at broadcom perhaps15:06
ogra_(how is that related to ubuntu)15:06
digitlmannot that I can find....15:08
digitlmanit is called casting a wide net15:09
Tassadarogra_: somebody here was asking for some kind of mirrors for system-image.ubuntu.com (it was slow for him) the other day, is that planned? Now it is just one http server server for everyone (or is it?), whereas normal desktop ubuntu images are hosted on several mirrors, torrents and they support zsync.16:29
ogra_currently it is only one server16:31
ogra_stgraber might know if there are any mirror plans16:31
ogra_(i assume once we actually have a million devices out there we seriously want mirrors :) )16:31
ogra_(currently the user base is rather in the 4-5 digit area i guess though)16:31
* Tassadar realizes he selected the wrong channel16:32
ogra_:)16:32
ogra_well, still kind of related16:32
Tassadarthe current update system doesn't seem to be prepared for that at all, although I suppose it can be done on server level(?)16:41
