=== Mohi is now known as IAmNotThatGuy [04:48] popey: hey, still having the convergence design brainstorm on wed, right? [07:30] good morning [07:31] morning dholbach [07:31] hey elfy [08:01] morning [08:01] hey nigelb [08:01] hola ara, hola dpm [08:02] Good morning dholbach, elfy, ara, dpm [08:02] hey dholbach [08:02] morning nigelb and everyone! [08:02] Listening to BBC in the morning is depressing! :P [08:02] * nigelb is near the TV in the hostel [08:03] morning nigelb [08:03] yes it is ... [10:53] Hi..I have a license query regarding packages.. is this the right place to ask? [10:55] jcdrake__: what is the question? [11:01] AlanBell: its about the copyright file seen in /usr/share/doc [11:02] AlanBell: and about the symlink of /usr/share/common-licensed/GPL [11:03] AlanBell: In other words, about the license mismatch between the packages and the symlinks [11:04] can you be more specific? [11:04] like, a package or program that you think is incorrect? [11:04] popey: sure..i can give you an example [11:05] popey: I can find copyright file of cloog-ppl package as "/usr/share/doc/cloog-ppl/copyright" [11:06] in that I see "See /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL" [11:06] but the software is GPL-2? [11:07] which is the symlink to GPL-3, whereas its original license is LGPL 2.1 [11:07] popey: yes, exactly [11:07] sounds like a packaging bug [11:07] someone made a mistake when they created the copyright file [11:07] is it a mistake or it defines any purpose? [11:08] looks like a mistake / oversight to me [11:08] I can see this in many packages.. [11:08] does ubuntu team uses any automate tool to generate copyright? [11:09] no, they're generally manually created [11:09] so what next? Should I post as a bug ? [11:09] yeah [11:09] ubuntu-bug [11:10] you could make one bug and assign to lots of packages if you have found a few [11:10] */GPL is the "current" GPL which is 3 - which was decided by debian [11:10] same with GFDL [11:10] probably nobody updated that copyright file when that change occured, thats all [11:10] and looking at that package - it was last touched in 2008.. [11:11] you could even fix them yourself ☻ [11:11] oh..fine.. I should file a bug here? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu [11:11] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source//+reportbug [11:11] yes [11:11] insert package name there [11:12] popey: yes..thats I am gonna do anyway ;) [11:12] cool [11:13] I wonder if you could grep for "or later" and see if such packages link to the "current" symlink rather than a versioned license [11:14] popey: thanks. I could do that.. [11:14] AlanBell: yes.. [11:15] I can make a list and post it in the bug which I am gonna create [11:18] great, thanks jcdrake [11:42] popey: correct link, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloog-ppl/+filebug ;) [12:42] popey: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloog-ppl/+bug/1271160 [12:42] Launchpad bug 1271160 in cloog-ppl (Ubuntu) "License version mismatch" [Undecided,New] [12:42] preparing the list now... [12:43] jcdrake: you can add each affected package as a task on the bug, rather than have separate bugs. [12:43] the "also affects project" button can be used for that [12:47] popey: OK. Thank you. Once I finished with the list, I could do that [16:41] popey: ping [17:18] all right my friends - I'm out for today - see you tomorrow! [17:18] big hugs [17:58] jono: hey, having your Q&A in about an hour, right? [17:59] jose, yep :-) [17:59] cool! [18:00] jono: you know you got a dodgy link on your blog ... http://www.jonobacon.org/2014/01/19/bad-voltage-in-2014/community.badvoltage.org/ [18:01] I did comment - twice it seems, not sure what went on there other than it being sunday [18:03] elfy, yeah, will fix [18:03] thanks! [18:04] jose, btw, I approved your request [18:04] jose, (donations) [18:06] jono: awesome, thanks [18:07] jono: Michelle should be contacting me about it, right?
